Chapter 343: Chapter 343 – She’s my wife. Stop calling her my ex-wife.
The four men, dressed in semi-formal attire and smoking cigars while sipping on their drinks, quickly extinguished their cigars upon noticing the presence of a pregnant woman.
"Mr. Jewel, please take a seat. I wasn’t aware that your ex-wife would be joining us, and when did you start employing bodyguards?" Don Kane, Shandra’s father, asked with a disapproving expression as he stood up and shook hands with Robin.
Shandra hadn’t informed her father about Sabrina’s presence, as she herself was unaware and equally displeased.
Robin sat down first and gestured for Sabrina to sit beside him. The other three men frowned as Don Kane spoke in a slightly apologetic tone,
"I’m sorry, but since she’s already here, she can wait for you with Shandra in the next room."
Sabrina remained calm, understanding that she hadn’t expected to be involved in a meeting with Dons.
However, Robin disagreed firmly. "No. Either she stays here, or I leave," he stated sternly.
Sabrina gently held Robin’s hand to calm him and whispered softly,
"My King, it’s alright. There’s a glass separating us, and I can still see you from there."
When Don Kane realized the reason for Robin’s hesitation, he decided to address his concerns.
"Mr. Jewel, your ex-wife is completely safe with Chandra," he assured.
Robin didn’t trust Chandra, but at least he had bodyguards with him.
However, Don Kane’s repeated reference to Sabrina as his ex-wife bothered him, and he couldn’t hide his displeasure.
"She’s my wife. Stop calling her my ex-wife," he snapped.
Don Kane’s eyes took on a shadowy look as he responded,
"I’m sorry, but I heard about a divorce. I never heard about a remarriage. Shandra, please bring our best drinks," he instructed.
Shandra smiled and left the room. Don Kane, in his early fifties, had just a few gray hairs and a medium-sized pot belly.
When Shandra returned, she was accompanied by a group of girls who began flirting with the men.
However, when one of them tried to touch Robin, he issued a strong warning.
"If you touch me with those filthy hands, I will cut them off."
The girl’s hand froze in the air, and Sabrina, understanding the situation, said to Robin,
"I will wait in the next room."
She was no stranger to the activities that took place in places like this, but she was relieved that Robin was now a principled man.
"I’ll be quick," Robin’s gaze softened as he turned to her, smiling and speaking.
Shandra was adept at concealing her annoyance at how much Robin had changed, which she attributed to Sabrina’s presence in his life.
However, she still held onto hope that things would change after tonight. She followed Sabrina into the next room, but Robin instructed the two bodyguards to accompany them.
The atmosphere in the room relaxed as Don Kane began pouring drinks. He offered a glass to Robin, but to his disappointment, Robin declined the kind gesture.
"I apologize, but I’m solely here for business."
Robin knew that Don Kane wanted Sabrina gone because of the pleasure aspect often associated with discussions in places like this.
Even though Sabrina had left, he wanted to make it clear to Don Kane that it changed nothing.
Don Kane was displeased with the change he saw in Robin. He had wanted to do a favor for his daughter, but unfortunately, that plan had to be abandoned because Robin refused to join them for a drink as he usually would.
"Mr. Jewel, allow me to introduce my friends and business partners," Don Kane said, gesturing towards a gray-haired middle-aged man named Don Diego from Italy.
He then pointed to a young blonde man in his early thirties and said, "This is Mr. Clay, a millionaire from Los Angeles."
Lastly, he pointed to another young man and introduced him as Don Santiago, who was based in Mexico. Don Kane explained,
"We are currently in the process of planning and building a larger club and casino, which will be the biggest in New York City."
Don Kane continued, "As you know, the entertainment business is very profitable. If everything goes according to plan, you will have the opportunity to become a shareholder. However, the percentage of ownership will depend on the amount you invest."
Robin already had a general understanding of these types of businesses. Since it wasn’t just him and Don Kane involved, he wanted to know how much the others were contributing.
Nevertheless, he phrased her question differently, saying,
"I’m interested in the idea, but I would like to see the casino plan and understand the financial commitment before deciding how much I can invest."
"I have all the necessary information right here," Don Kane said, pulling out a stack of documents from his briefcase and placing them on the table. Robin noticed the sheer volume of papers and honestly admitted, "I won’t be able to review all of this here. Can I have copies to take with me?"
Don Diego smiled and replied, "These copies are for you. They have their own copies and we have agreed on their percentage."
As Robin realized that all the answers he needed were in the pile of documents in front of him, he spoke calmly,
"If this is everything, then I will take my leave now."
Don Kane furrowed his brow and glanced over at Shandra, who was sitting with Sabrina. He noticed how Robin kept looking at his ex-wife and frowned.
"Mr. Jewel, there is something else important that I would like to discuss with you, but it’s a private matter between just you and me," Don Kane said.
Robin pursed his lips, unsure of what could be so confidential between the two of them, and asked, "What is it?"
Don Kane looked apologetically at the two Dons and said,
"Enjoy your time with the women in the hotel. We will talk again later."
After the three Dons departed, Don Kane stared silently at Robin for an extended period, causing Robin to feel uneasy. Robin mustered a smile and disclosed,
"As you are aware, my wife is pregnant, and I prefer not to keep her out for too long."
Don Kane’s forced smile failed to conceal his displeasure.
"Mr. Jewel, the matter I wish to discuss with you pertains to your wife. She is the issue."
Robin’s expression turned dangerously dark.
