Devin acknowledged that while he accepted Robin as Sabrina’s husband and respected him, he never felt a deep connection with him that would allow him to share his personal problems.

He simply didn’t see Robin in that light.

"I apologize, but it doesn’t mean that I haven’t accepted you," he honestly admitted.

Robin let out a sigh and spoke calmly, "If being family is too difficult for you, you can consider me a good friend. I can’t replace Martin in your life, and I don’t want to."

"I would hate you if you were him," Devin said, and they both shared a laugh. Then Robin began to explain things slowly.

"But honestly, Devin, I love Sabrina so much, and that love extends to anyone she loves as well."

Devin understood that Robin wanted him to open up, but he also recognized that Robin had a lot on his plate, managing multiple companies.

"But you’re also busy," he pointed out. Robin shook his head in disagreement.

"Just as I make time for her, I will make the same time for those she loves. I already have people in place to handle the day-to-day operations, and I only check on them occasionally. If I didn’t step foot in the office for a year, it wouldn’t affect the company in the slightest."

Devin reluctantly acknowledged that, despite everything, Robin was a business prodigy who knew how to hire the right people for the job.

Robin’s companies were well-organized, and his CEOs were proactive. Whenever Robin visited his other companies unexpectedly, he never found anything to complain about.

Devin couldn’t help but admire Robin’s skills. He knew that Robin was telling the truth, and he also knew that Robin was willing to make an exception for him because of his love for Sabrina.

However, since they had never discussed personal matters before, it still felt strange to Devin.

"Thank you for letting me know. It’s just strange talking to you about things unrelated to Sabrina," Devin said, feeling a bit awkward.

"I understand why you feel that way," Robin replied, not offended. "I didn’t even know about you and Lizzy until after the divorce. We also didn’t start off on the right foot, so it all makes sense."

Devin smiled, relieved that he had someone to talk to instead of relying on alcohol. While getting drunk temporarily made him forget his problems, they were still unresolved, and he knew he would eventually have to face Matilda.

Moreover, Robin was right. If he wanted something, he was willing to humble himself to get it, just like he did when he wanted to impress Sabrina on their first date.

As Devin reflected on all of this, he felt the urge to share his worries and see if he could find some answers. Even if he didn’t, it would be a relief to let it all out.

"Thank you for understanding, but if you happen to have any solutions, how can I convince her to keep the child? I don’t want to force her into anything. I just wanted her to have some time to think," Devin confessed.

Robin smiled slightly and gently corrected him, "I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t have the solution to every problem. However, we can still discuss it. First and foremost, do you still love the mother of your child?" Robin inquired.

There was a brief pause as Devin wrestled with his feelings for Matilda. He knew he loved her, but after witnessing this side of her, he questioned whether she deserved his love and if he had been foolish to give her so much of it.

"I’m not sure, Robin. She has changed so much right in front of me, and I feel powerless. The words she spoke to me yesterday were those of a stranger, not the woman I fell in love with."

Robin didn’t want to pass judgment on Matilda solely based on Devin’s words, as he knew she had been good in the past.

He believed it wasn’t enough reason to give up on her because of her impulsive decision regarding the unwanted pregnancy.

"Do you understand her personality? How did you first meet her?" Robin asked, uncertain if the question would provide the answers he sought.

To his surprise, Devin smiled in response to the question.

"They had recently moved into our neighborhood, and she was bored, so she ran to our house looking for someone to play with. When she found out Sabrina was sick, she slept by her bedside and stayed with her through it all."

As Devin recalled that time, he realized that his heart had begun to soften once again for Matilda. She was so good, so what exactly happened to her?

Robin made a mental note of Matilda’s inability to be by herself. Then he asked,

"Do you see any similarities between her and Sabrina?"

Devin did not know what to make of all these questions but still answered honestly,

"I didn’t know much about her before then, so when I realized that she and Sabrina almost behaved the same way, I only thought they had a similar character."

Robin made another note before asking again, "When did you begin to notice the change in her?"

"A few days after she started school, but things didn’t get serious until she demanded to drive herself to work. She began to distance herself. She would sleep as soon as her body touched the bed and avoided any physical touch from me," Devin said bitterly.

He missed the times they used to make love or cuddle themselves to sleep. All of that had been lost for weeks now.

"Do you suspect that she has someone else?" Robin asked, and as Devin thought about it, he couldn’t remember anything suspicious. Also, Matilda never changed her phone password or anything.

She was transparent to him, except for her alcoholic behavior, which he overheard during her conversation with the doctor and the pregnancy matter.

"No, I doubt it," Devin replied, Robin felt a glimmer of hope.

"If you’re certain about that, then that option is off the table," Robin observed, but couldn’t help expressing his suspicion.

"Do you think her behavior is a result of her separation from Sabrina during our marriage?" he asked. Devin nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, when we weren’t dating, she became obsessed with finding someone to love her after Sabrina married you," Devin confirmed. Robin nodded, understanding the situation.

"That confirms what I’ve been thinking. Do you know who her friends are at school?" he asked again. Devin shook his head.

"Honestly, I don’t have time for any other woman except her."

"I think Matilda is a wonderful girl, but she lacks independence. She’s easily influenced by her friends," Robin said thoughtfully. Devin suddenly remembered something.

"She once mentioned that she’s the oldest in her class, and I noticed she hasn’t been wearing her engagement ring at school," Devin revealed after careful thought.

Robin nodded, drawing from his own experience dealing with issues in his HR department.

"I think her friends are younger than her and haven’t achieved what she has. But she still feels left out and wants to be on their level or have what they have."

"Like freedom?" Devin asked, and Robin had no choice but to agree.

"Exactly. But do you still love her?" Robin asked, his tone serious.
