Chapter 340: Chapter 340 – Matilda’s Ultimatum

Devin remained silent, his shame evident in his reluctance to express his love for Matilda. He couldn’t help but feel that she had changed for the worse, and it pained him to admit it.

Robin, on the other hand, couldn’t help but draw parallels between Matilda’s current state and his own past.

The difference, however, was that Robin had managed to change for the better, while Matilda seemed to be spiraling downwards, much like Martin.

"Don’t be ashamed," Robin reassured Devin. "You can still love someone and want to break up with them."

Robin knew this truth all too well. Even though Sabrina had confessed her love for him after their divorce, she had made it clear that they would never reunite. Of course, that was before they discovered Zayla’s involvement in their lives.

"I still love her."

Devin’s admission that he still loved Matilda brought tears to Robin’s eyes, which he quickly wiped away.

"I admire your family," Robin said with a wistful smile. "You all have so much love in your hearts. Just like Sabrina, she taught me how to love."

"But your situation is different," Devin said and continued. "You were once bad, but you changed for the better. Matilda, on the other hand, was once good and now she’s becoming someone else entirely. It’s hard to trust her."

Robin nodded in agreement and suggested, "I think you should talk to her again, especially if you don’t want her to secretly terminate your child."

"You can’t keep her locked up in the penthouse forever. She might even try to use those abortion pills this time, and you wouldn’t know until it’s too late."

Devin felt a sudden wave of realization hit him like a bullet. He had managed to stop the D&C procedure before it happened, but what if Matilda decided to take those abortion pills? He might not even know until it was too late.

Defeated, Devin admitted, his heart torn, "Robin, this is so difficult."

Robin placed a comforting hand on Devin’s shoulder. "You’ve got this, Devin. I can’t do it for you, but I’ll always be here to listen. Just let me know how it goes."

Devin nodded in agreement. "Alright. Thank you."

Matilda was lounging on the sofa when she heard the beeping sound of the door, instantly snapping her eyes open.

Spotting Devin, she rushed over to hug him, but he remained stiff. It had been weeks since they had any physical contact, and it felt strange, especially coming from Matilda.

"Have you eaten?" Devin asked, concerned that she may have been starving herself because she didn’t want the child.

Now he regretted his callousness and his decision to go to the club. What if she hadn’t eaten since he left?

"No. I was worried about you," Matilda confessed, causing Devin to worry even more. He was also saddened that she had allowed herself to starve while being pregnant.

Feeling upset, Devin didn’t say a word but went to get her some cereal. Matilda followed him to the kitchen and asked,

"Where have you been? I’ve been worried sick."

Devin scoffed internally but made sure not to say anything as he placed the bowl of cereal on the counter. "Eat."

"You should eat with me, or I won’t have an appetite," Matilda pouted.

It had been a while since she had behaved like this, and although Devin used to find it cute, everything was different now.

He spoke indifferently, "Hurry up. I have to take you to school."

"The day is already half gone. I’m not going," Matilda protested.

Devin sat in front of her on the kitchen counter and began to feed her since she hadn’t touched her food.

He was only doing it for the sake of the child in her womb.

"You can still catch up with the other classes. Don’t forget that you already missed yesterday," he said with regret, remembering how she never missed any of her classes.

Matilda had a lot to talk about, so she wasn’t willing to go to school that day.

"I will go on Monday," Matilda said firmly. Devin tried to feed her again, but she refused to accept it.

"I said I’m not hungry."

Devin swallowed bitterly and said, "Even if you’re not hungry, you should eat for the sake of the child. You haven’t eaten since yesterday."

When Matilda realized the reason for his worry, she said honestly, "I ate twice yesterday because I thought you had just gone to work and would be back, but you never returned."

"Where did you go?" Matilda asked, already suspecting that he had showered at the villa, as Robin’s clothes were customized.

Devin was relieved that she had at least eaten yesterday, and it was only mid-morning. "It doesn’t matter where I went. Even if you ate yesterday, today is another day, so open up."

He scooped the cereal onto the spoon and lifted it to her mouth, but she refused to take it. "I said I’m not hungry."

She knew that he was only concerned because of the pregnancy, which caused her great pain.

Meanwhile, Devin explained,

"Matilda, I don’t want this pregnancy to take anything away from you. I promise that as soon as you give birth, I won’t burden you with anything."

Matilda experienced a painful twitch in her heart, which she couldn’t help but attribute to her own past behavior.

"Since I’m still here, I demand that you tell me where you spent the night. Did you sleep with another woman?"

Devin lowered his head, and when he lifted it, there was pain in his eyes. He didn’t want to offend her, but she was making things difficult.

"I spent the night at the club, but I didn’t sleep with another woman. I’m not that kind of man, and you should know that by now. I don’t even know why I’m explaining it to you. You’ve already made your choice, but I won’t let you harm my child growing inside you."

Matilda was saddened, her heart aching that he had indeed given up on her. She revealed her intentions, "Devin, I’ve been thinking, and I have my conditions too."

"What are they?" Devin asked eagerly, willing to do anything to ensure she kept the child. But what she said next shocked him to the core.
