Chapter 136: 135: Bribe Teacher Ji with chocolate

After "compensating" Shi Wei, the girl’s head drooped even lower. A misty haze clouded her light coffee-colored eyes, as if they were mysterious lakes luring someone into their depths.

Before the man could grasp her right hand, she had already retreated into the quilt, curling up into a ball.

Shi Wei unhurriedly put on his clothes and tossed all the crumpled tissues on the bed into the trash can.

He glanced at the time displayed on his phone screen, lifted the corner of the quilt, and embraced the girl from behind. "Zhizhi, sleep a little longer."

The man’s low, satisfied voice reached her ears. The girl touched the tips of her ears, suppressing the shyness in her heart, and made a soft sound of agreement.

The first ray of morning sunlight poured into the master bedroom, its soft golden glow brushing over the girl’s smooth, porcelain-like skin, leaving dappled patterns on her arms.

Yu Zhi changed into her school uniform, holding the man’s hand as she stepped onto the stairs in her star-patterned slippers, stepping onto his shadow as they descended to the second floor together.

After breakfast, the man poured the freshly brewed ginger tea into a thermos cup and placed it in her small hands.

Carrying a backpack, he accompanied the girl to the Maybach parked in the yard. "Zhizhi, I’ve put everything inside for you."

Having heard there was a heavier flow over the past two days, he thoughtfully packed an extra set, worried she might run out.

"What about the chocolates?" The girl’s eyes scanned back and forth over the man’s pockets and backpack.

"They’re in there too." Shi Wei brushed her hair, opened the passenger side door, and only after seeing her seated did he move to the other side.

The distance from Shengde to Emperor’s Scenic Heaven wasn’t too far, but if there was traffic, it could still take some time.

With five minutes to spare before the school bell rang, Shi Wei arrived at the school gate. He leaned over to undo the girl’s seatbelt and gave her a kiss on the corner of her lips. "If you’re not feeling well, just ask for leave, okay?"

"Alright." Seeing that time was tight, the girl quickly gave him a hug, grabbed her bag, opened the car door, and dashed inside.

Only when her figure completely disappeared from his line of sight did Shi Wei place his distinctively jointed hands on the steering wheel and make an unhurried turn.

Class 7, Senior Year.

Ji Jingchen stood at the lectern holding his teaching notes, ready to start the lesson when his peripheral vision caught sight of a sneaky girl by the back door of the classroom.

He lowered his eyes to glance at the time on his watch, then bent down under the gaze of the class to pick up a pen he had deliberately dropped on the floor.

Taking advantage of this moment, Yu Zhi tiptoed like a swift breeze back to her seat.

She took a deep breath and gently placed her thermos on the desk, unzipped her bag, and dug out her books from the bottom layer.

When Ji Jingchen straightened up again, he glanced nonchalantly at the seat near the window and shook his head slightly before beginning the lesson in a warm tone.

The girl listened to his voice, her restless mind unintentionally settling as she became immersed in the knowledge he was sharing.

The class wasn’t particularly long, and with Ji Jingchen’s engaging teaching style, time seemed to fly by unnoticed until the bell rang.

"Classmate Yu, come to my office for a moment." After organizing his teaching materials, he left this message and walked out of the classroom.

Yu Zhi calmly opened her thermos, took a sip of ginger tea, and then pulled two pieces of chocolate out of her bag before following him.

"Teacher Ji, is there something you wanted to talk about?" The girl pulled out the chair in front of him and sat down.

She rested one arm on the desk, showing none of the proper demeanor expected of a student.

Ji Jingchen’s gaze lingered on her posture for two seconds, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Why were you late today?"

If any other teacher had caught her, she surely wouldn’t have had the chance to brush it off so easily.

"My stomach wasn’t feeling great, so I got up late." Yu Zhi held out one of the chocolates she had been clutching the whole way. "Do you want one?"

Ji Jingchen: "..."

He suddenly felt a bit like he was being bribed.

After a moment of hesitation, he accepted the shiny golden sphere, seeing the faint expectation in her eyes.

He asked curiously, "Do you always carry chocolate with you?"

"Not usually." The man, worried that her "special time" would affect her mood, had insisted she bring some sweet treats to school.

Peeling off the wrapper, Yu Zhi took a small bite, closing her eyes slightly as she chewed in contentment.

The chocolate from his home had been something she’d craved for a long while, but he always limited her, doling out just one or two pieces each time to satisfy her.

If he ever caught her sneaking extra, he’d propose some strange conditions, leaving her longing unfulfilled.

Ji Jingchen, ever patient, poured her a glass of warm water and handed it to her. His tone turned slightly serious as he began addressing the matter at hand. "Your performance in this exam surprised me quite a bit."

He had assumed that even if she didn’t score high, she’d at least manage to pass all her subjects.

He hadn’t expected her to score just a little over fifty in Chinese, one of the easiest subjects.

Yu Zhi paused mid-chew, sipped on the glass of water, and responded earnestly: "I’m from the countryside and haven’t had much schooling."

Ji Jingchen: "..."

He raised a brow but refrained from probing further into her personal affairs.

After a moment of contemplation, he asked, "Have you found a way to improve? Would you like me to tutor you?"

"No need, someone’s already helping me." Yu Zhi waved her hand dismissively, lowering her head to continue eating her chocolate.

It was clear she wasn’t taking it to heart.

Ji Jingchen hesitated, almost voicing his next words before swallowing them back down. He let out a faint sigh. "Alright, but if you encounter any difficulties, come to me."

"Mm, thank you." After finishing her chocolate, the girl stood up leisurely.

She pointed at the still-wrapped piece on the desk. "Don’t forget to eat it. It’s expensive."

Ji Jingchen’s mouth twitched slightly. Once the girl left the office, he picked up the glimmering sphere on the desk and examined it closely.

"How expensive is ’expensive’?" he murmured to himself, unable to resist looking up the brand online.

Not usually a chocolate eater, he clicked his tongue at the marked price on the screen.

In the hallway, the girl sauntered with her hands tucked into the pockets of her jacket, occasionally glancing toward the sports field before turning away in boredom.

Her pace was leisurely as she descended the stairs, and at each flight’s final step, she would gently jump down.

Just as she finished her little jump and rounded the corner, she bumped into Lu Li, who was heading upstairs.

"Ow—" Yu Zhi clutched her forehead and cast a resentful glance at the booklets cradled in the boy’s arms.

"Are you alright?" Lu Li furrowed his brow, instinctively reaching out to rub her head. However, his hand paused mid-air.
