Chapter 134: 133: Buy brown sugar ginger tea for girlfriend

As the door closed, Xu Fan slumped weakly against the cold white wall, closing his eyes and letting out a scoff from his throat.

The little boy from back then had grown up. He wouldn’t trail him everywhere anymore, wouldn’t see him as the one and only person he could rely on.

Now he had a crowd of fans who adored and supported him.

Now he had a pretty pursuer who idolized him.

Maybe in a while, he’d even have a girlfriend, a wife, and maybe even a family of his own.

And for all of these things, the ’good brother’—his role—was no longer a part of it.

All those wished-for futures were nothing but hopeless delusions.

"Brother Fan." A soft, clear voice like mountain streams suddenly sounded near his ear.

Xu Fan paused, hand covering his eyes, but gave no response.

"What’s wrong with you?" Jin Yunzhi crouched beside him, eyes filled with worry.

Ever since the man had left, the more Jin Yunzhi thought about it, the more uneasy he became. Initially, he only wanted to check if Xu Fan hadn’t gone too far, yet here he was, sitting motionless at the door.

"It’s cold outside. Go back inside." Xu Fan didn’t answer his question, redirecting him instead.

Seeing Xu Fan’s hand still covering his eyes long after, Jin Yunzhi quickly placed down the Little Strawberry he had been holding, grabbed Xu Fan’s wrist, and tugged forcefully.

Unprepared, Xu Fan was easily taken off guard, revealing his reddened eyes.

"You... were crying?" Jin Yunzhi pursed his lips, his nose inexplicably tingling with an ache.

He clutched onto Xu Fan’s arm, his clear, grape-like eyes misting over: "Did I upset you?"

As he spoke, crystalline tears streamed down one after another, landing on Xu Fan’s hand, searing his heart.

"No, what nonsense are you thinking?" Xu Fan panicked instantly, fumbling to wipe at Jin Yunzhi’s tear-streaked corners of his eyes, forgetting everything else.

"It’s just... it’s just because of me." Jin Yunzhi remained trapped in his own thoughts, clutching the Little Strawberry and bawling, even hiccupping partway.

Afraid that Jin Yunzhi’s louder cries might disturb the neighbors, Xu Fan hurriedly scooped him up and took him back inside.

Though he tried soothing him for ages, it was to no avail. He could only allow him to cry while using the pause to wring a warm towel to press against his eyes.

"Still not done crying?" Xu Fan patted him on the back, worried he might cry so hard he’d lose his breath.

Jin Yunzhi snatched the towel from Xu Fan’s hand and, sobbing, rubbed his entire face, taking a good few minutes before finally settling down.

He shot Xu Fan an annoyed look, gesturing to a small stool beside the coffee table: "Go sit there."

Xu Fan: "..."

After two seconds of silence, Xu Fan still walked over and sat down on the ridiculously tiny stool.

Given his height, sitting there left his long legs with nowhere to go, making for quite the comical sight.

"Now talk. What did I do to upset you?" Jin Yunzhi straightened up, a serious expression on his face as he hammered the Little Strawberry onto the couch a few times.

It carried such determination, as if refusing to let go until he got the answer he wanted.

"It isn’t your fault." There was no way Xu Fan would reveal his real thoughts.

He could only stubbornly refuse to admit anything, locking horns with Jin Yunzhi.

After incessantly questioning him without extracting any valuable information, Jin Yunzhi gave up and began contemplating to himself.

His arms crossed, he paced back and forth behind Xu Fan.

Suddenly, he bent down and leaned close, eyebrows raised as he questioned, "Don’t tell me... you like that actress?"

Ever since he mentioned that actress, Xu Fan’s behavior had been odd.

If it wasn’t because he liked her, there wouldn’t be any need for all this drama.

Xu Fan flicked a finger against Jin Yunzhi’s forehead, giving him a complex glance and replied in a low voice, "What nonsense are you talking about? I’ve never even met her."

"Then what’s the matter with you?" Jin Yunzhi frowned, disheartened, his head struggling to come up with any other explanation.

"Work is exhausting."

"I don’t believe you!"

Xu Fan didn’t want to continue the back-and-forth any longer. He pulled the small stool out from under him and placed it by Jin Yunzhi’s feet: "I’m a little tired."

Before Jin Yunzhi could utter another word, Xu Fan curled up on the couch, covering himself with a strawberry-printed blanket, pretending to sleep.

Jin Yunzhi raised his fist behind Xu Fan’s back angrily, but ultimately didn’t dare land it for real.

"Hmph." With the Little Strawberry in his arms, he stomped off to the bedroom, slamming the door shut, no longer concerned with him.

The living room fell silent. The gentle breeze from the window slipped in, brushing against the chandelier and casting shimmering light across the man, creating a mosaic of flickering reflections.

Shi Family.

From the bathroom came successive sounds of flushing, but for a long time, no one emerged.

The young girl sat on the toilet, embarrassed, clutching a wad of tissue, face red, uncertain of what to do.

She bit her lip and softly called out toward the door: "Shi Wei, are you there?"

The handsome man was sitting on the beanbag chair, lighting a cigarette. Before he could take a full puff, the girl’s voice interrupted him.

He stubbed out the cigarette and strode quickly to the bathroom door, knocking twice: "What’s wrong?"

"I... I got it." Yu Zhi hung her head. Even before seeing the man’s face, she was already flustered.

Her monthly cycle was usually pretty punctual, but this time it had arrived a day early, and right in the middle of her bathroom break, making it all the more awkward.

"What?"

"Can you... uh, help me buy something?" Her voice sounded like a buzzing mosquito. Shi Wei had to confirm several times before understanding what she meant.

"Don’t worry, Zhizhi. I’ll be right back." The man reassured her before hurriedly heading downstairs.

In the Emperor’s Scenic Heaven neighborhood, there was a 24-hour convenience store, though walking there still took about fifteen minutes.

Wearing only a bathrobe and throwing caution to the wind, he jogged down the tree-lined path at top speed, arriving at the convenience store as fast as possible.

He went straight to the feminine care aisle, glanced at the array of brands in front of him for a few seconds, then decisively grabbed one of each color and package.

"Checkout. Make it quick." Shi Wei dropped the pile of sanitary products onto the counter, calmly opening the QR code on his phone and holding it out.

The cashier froze for a moment, first stunned by Shi Wei’s striking looks, then puzzled by the mountain of items on the counter.

Still, professional etiquette quickly kicked in, and the cashier resumed his duties.

While scanning the items, the cashier glanced at Shi Wei and gestured towards the back section of the store: "You might also consider buying some ginger brown sugar tea for your girlfriend. It’s good boiled."
