Chapter 133: 132: I heard that a female celebrity is pursuing you.
"Where did you go wrong?" Xu Fan’s face was cold, showing no intention of letting him get away with it.
It wasn’t that he was completely forbidden from eating these little snacks; the key issue was that every time he ate them, he’d end up with an upset stomach. And yet, after the stomach trouble, he’d continue to eat them, never understanding the concept of restraint.
"I shouldn’t have snuck food, I shouldn’t have lied to you." Jin Yunzhi climbed up slowly, while straightening the crooked trash can on his way.
He gripped the plastic bag with both hands, stood properly in front of the man, lowered his head, and softened his tone: "I won’t do it again in the future."
Xu Fan’s gaze fell on the fluffy head in front of him. His fingertips twitched, and eventually, he couldn’t resist reaching out to give it a rub.
Xu Fan was very tall, while Jin Yunzhi barely reached his shoulder. This height difference made it convenient for Xu Fan to tousle his hair.
"You’re not mad anymore, right?" Jin Yunzhi felt his hairstyle being ruined, so he patted Xu Fan’s hand, signaling for him to stop rubbing.
Xu Fan said nothing. Instead, he wrapped an arm around the other’s shoulder and led him to the sofa to sit down. He turned his head to glance at the boy’s fair and tender cheeks, and his eyes darkened slightly.
The atmosphere in the living room grew quieter. Perhaps unable to bear the silence, the boy began lightly kicking the coffee table now and then, creating small sounds.
He puffed out his cheeks, rested his chin on the Little Strawberry cushion, and his clear eyes looked perpetually hazy, as if always shrouded in mist.
"What are you thinking about?" Xu Fan leaned down slightly, moving closer to study the boy’s thick eyelashes.
Jin Yunzhi blinked twice and turned his head aside with a pout: "Nothing—"
His sudden movement caused him to accidentally brush against the face that hadn’t moved away in time.
Jin Yunzhi’s eyes widened in shock, and he jumped up abruptly, clutching the Little Strawberry tightly in his arms.
"I-I didn’t mean to." His gaze darted around nervously, and even the tips of his ears were stained with blush.
Xu Fan’s expression remained unchanged as he responded lightly, casually raising a beer can from the table and taking a few sips.
On the surface, he looked calm and unruffled, but his other hand, hanging at his side where the boy couldn’t see, had clenched into a tight fist, as if suppressing something.
He swirled the beer casually, leaning lazily against the sofa, his voice slightly raspy: "Want some?"
Jin Yunzhi was still frozen in place, seemingly unable to recover from the earlier mishap. He snuck a glance at Xu Fan, hesitated for a moment, then shuffled his feet.
He placed the Little Strawberry on his lap, held onto the beer with both hands, and obediently sat a meter away from the man, trying to calm his rapidly beating heart.
"Yunzhi, come here." Xu Fan’s voice carried a hint of undeniable authority.
Jin Yunzhi paused, recalling the incident from just moments ago, lowering his head nervously before stammering: "W-What for..."
"What are you afraid of? Do you think I’ll eat you or something?" Xu Fan noticed his trembling legs, sighed inwardly, and chuckled helplessly.
"Afraid? Me?"
As if stung by his words, Jin Yunzhi suddenly stomped over to him, grabbing his Little Strawberry and began chucking it at him.
While tossing the cushion, he grumbled aloud, "Xu Fan, who do you think you’re underestimating here? When has your little master ever been scared?"
It wasn’t until his anger was vented that Jin Yunzhi stopped, clutching the Little Strawberry protectively as he glared at the disheveled and slightly embarrassed man.
"You’re so aggressive. Do you think you’ll ever find a girlfriend at this rate?" Xu Fan adjusted his clothes, his gaze composed and indifferent, not showing even a hint of anger despite the assault.
"Who cares? Little master’s perfectly fine living solo!"
"Hmm." Xu Fan crossed one leg over the other, lazily draping an arm nearby, as if casually asking: "I heard a female celebrity’s been chasing after you?"
"Who?"
"I think her last name’s Nie?"
"I don’t know any Nie! Who told you that?" Jin Yunzhi asked, his curiosity piqued.
Whenever gossip was involved, his attention shifted entirely, even if he was the subject of the gossip himself.
"There’s a fan of yours at the office." Xu Fan casually made up a reason before tactfully steering the conversation back: "Hasn’t any female celebrity approached you recently?"
Jin Yunzhi paused to think for a moment. Eventually, he seemed to recall something and exclaimed: "You’re talking about the one whose last name is Ye, right?"
Xu Fan wasn’t interested in whether it was "Ye" or "Nie"; his tone grew slightly more urgent as he asked, "What did she want from you?"
When he had first seen those few photos of the two of them together, laughing and chatting intimately, he wanted to ask. But he never found the right moment.
Now that he’d finally asked, his already uneasy heart felt like it was teetering on the edge of a cliff, making it hard for him to breathe.
"Not much, really. We just shot an ad together."
Jin Yunzhi curled his lips slightly, a hint of joy and pride flashing in his vibrant, grape-like eyes: "She said she’s my die-hard fan and has watched all my competitions."
"And then?" Xu Fan’s face darkened further, even his tone becoming icier.
But Jin Yunzhi seemed oblivious to his shift, continuing enthusiastically: "And then we added each other on WeChat, and she asked me to play games with her sometime."
"I haven’t had the chance to invite her yet, though, since our schedules don’t align."
"..."
Xu Fan stared silently at Yunzhi. When he heard the words "we," his chest tightened painfully, leaving him feeling unsettled.
The boy’s naive, innocent demeanor left Xu Fan disgusted with himself deep down.
Jin Yunzhi should belong to the sunlight, yet Xu Fan had the audacity to drag him into the darkness, selfishly wanting him to accompany him in his descent.
"Brother Fan, what’s wrong?" Jin Yunzhi noticed a complicated emotion in Xu Fan’s eyes that he couldn’t decipher, and he panicked slightly.
He called out to Xu Fan, but seeing no response, he waved his hand in front of him in an attempt to pull him back to reality.
Xu Fan grabbed his wrist, forcing out a bitter smile as he said, "I’m fine."
His smile looked forced and bitter, making Jin Yunzhi’s heart tighten uncomfortably.
"Are you really exhausted lately?" Other than work pressure, Jin Yunzhi couldn’t think of any other reason.
Xu Fan took a deep breath, suppressing the emotions that almost drove him to do something rash and hurtful.
"Not too bad." He gently squeezed Jin Yunzhi’s hand and resumed his usual warm demeanor: "It’s late. You should rest early."
"Are you leaving?" Jin Yunzhi looked at the man who had started putting on his coat with an expression of reluctance, puffing out his cheeks.
"Yeah, I have a pile of documents waiting for me at home."
Before leaving, Xu Fan affectionately ruffled Jin Yunzhi’s hair again. Hidden within the gentle motion was a trace of indescribable tenderness.
