Chapter 132: 131: Are they even going to hit Brother Fan now?

"I really didn’t hear you." Xu Fan sighed softly but didn’t dare admit it was because Yunzhi’s voice was too quiet; otherwise, there’d be another round of drama.

"Why... why are you only coming now?" Skipping over the issue of calling for him earlier, Jin Yunzhi found a new point to pick on: "I called you so many times."

He raised his head and glared at Xu Fan fiercely. Perhaps after crying too hard, the area around his eyes was red, making him look pitiful.

Xu Fan pulled a few tissues out of the paper box on the table and wiped Yunzhi’s tear-stained, messy cheeks: "Alright, it’s all my fault."

Knowing Jin Yunzhi’s temper, he chose to admit fault upfront to avoid Yunzhi grabbing hold of something else and escalating the conflict further.

"Hmph, good that you know." Jin Yunzhi snatched the tissues, punched the strawberry pillow in his arms twice, his tone thick with a playful threat: "Next time you’re late again, just you wait and see!"

The punches he landed were soft and lacking any real menace, but Xu Fan still cooperatively put on a scared expression.

"Yunzhi’s actually beating Brother Fan now?" His gaze fell on the clenched fist, and he leaned back slightly.

"And what if I do?" Jin Yunzhi raised the corners of his lips smugly, deliberately swinging his fist in front of him, trying to scare him.

The living room was completely dark; only the moonlight spilling in through the window allowed Xu Fan to see the outline of the other and the pair of luminous, bright, grape-like eyes.

Xu Fan chuckled faintly and lightly poked Yunzhi’s round, smooth forehead: "If I really did wrong, it’d be fair for Yunzhi to hit me."

"Stop joking!" Jin Yunzhi slapped away his hand, kicked Xu Fan’s ankle, and pointed at the ceiling light: "Go figure out what’s going on."

No one knew what was wrong, but his apartment had inexplicably lost power. The other units nearby were just fine—it was only his experiencing the issue.

"Alright, stay here and wait for me." Xu Fan turned on his phone’s flashlight, stood up, and headed toward the main circuit breaker behind the door.

After some fumbling without figuring anything out, he called property management. Hearing them say there were no issues with the building’s wiring, he furrowed his brows, thinking deeply.

Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind. He opened the cabinet under the TV and rummaged around, eventually fishing out the electricity card.

Xu Fan entered the card number into the app and topped it up with a few hundred yuan. Within minutes, all the room’s lights instantly lit up.

As the pale yellow light cascaded down from above, Jin Yunzhi excitedly hugged Little Strawberry, shuffled in his slippers, and ran over to the man.

"Brother Fan, did you fix it?" His eyes sparkled like stars, gazing at him with admiration.

Xu Fan: "..."

He took a deep look at Yunzhi but ultimately swallowed the teasing about to escape his lips.

Xu Fan simply answered with a nod and discreetly turned off his phone to prevent Yunzhi from seeing the app’s screen.

"You’re amazing!" Yunzhi had been racking his brain at home for ages without finding the issue, but Xu Fan fixed it in no time.

"Not bad." Xu Fan accepted the praise casually and headed into the kitchen, grabbing two cans of beer from the fridge.

He handed one to Yunzhi: "Want one?"

"No," Jin Yunzhi shook his head, opened the fridge’s bottom shelf, and pulled out a strawberry-flavored popsicle: "I’ll have this."

He tore open the packaging, snapped the popsicle in two, and alternated biting between the halves, eating cheerfully.

Xu Fan thoughtfully took the strawberry pillow tucked under Yunzhi’s arm, tugged on his collar, and carried him off to the sofa like a little chick.

"Aren’t you worried about getting a stomach ache eating that?" Xu Fan cast a disapproving glance at the frosted popsicle, his slightly stern tone tempered by subtle warmth.

"Nah, I’ve got a strong body." Jin Yunzhi didn’t stop munching, finishing the popsicle down to its last bite in no time.

Just as he was about to make another trip to the kitchen, his wrist was suddenly grabbed tightly.

Jin Yunzhi turned his head to glare at him, puzzled: "What are you doing?"

"No more." Xu Fan yanked him back, settled him firmly on the sofa, and brought over a glass of warm water.

Jin Yunzhi: "..."

He lowered his gaze, holding the glass with both hands, exuding a moody air.

Seeing that Xu Fan wasn’t paying him any attention, his eyes darted side to side. He let out a soft exclamation: "Ouch, Brother Fan, my stomach hurts."

To make it more convincing, he slammed the glass down on the table, clutched his stomach, and flopped onto the sofa with a pained look plastered across his face.

"Where does it hurt?" Xu Fan was startled by his act, gently pressing around Yunzhi’s stomach: "Here?"

Jin Yunzhi nodded randomly, his lips pursed in pretend grievance: "Brother Fan, go buy me some medicine downstairs; we don’t have any here."

"Alright, drink some water and wait a moment. I’ll be back soon." As soon as he finished speaking, Xu Fan hurried out the door, not even bothering to put on a jacket in his haste.

Once the sound of his footsteps faded completely, Jin Yunzhi got up leisurely and took a deep breath.

Standing on tiptoes, he carefully peeked out through the peephole. Confirming the coast was clear, he sneaked into the kitchen and pulled out another popsicle from the fridge.

Sitting by the trash can, he skillfully ripped open the packaging, his actions smooth and efficient.

As he tasted the sweetness again, a contented expression lit up his features.

"Amazing!" Jin Yunzhi half-closed his eyes, clapped his hands, and pulled out a second popsicle from the fridge.

Lost in his popsicle indulgence, he completely forgot about the passage of time.

Just as he tore open the packaging for a third popsicle, the unmistakably irritated voice of Xu Fan suddenly rang out behind him: "Enjoying it?"

Jin Yunzhi froze mid-motion, didn’t immediately turn around, swallowed the popsicle in his mouth, then dramatically flopped to the floor as if fainting.

A minute passed.

Two minutes passed.

...

When Xu Fan didn’t come to pull him up, Jin Yunzhi started feeling anxious. He moved his fingers slightly, his brain working quickly to come up with an escape plan.

"Stop pretending; isn’t the floor cold?" Xu Fan’s anger had mostly subsided during those few minutes.

He tossed the bag of medicine onto Yunzhi’s stomach: "Get up."

Jin Yunzhi couldn’t keep the act up any longer. He pinched his thigh and opened his tear-filled eyes, softly admitting: "Brother Fan, I was wrong..."
