Chapter 371: Undead’s Skin

Chapter 371: Chapter 371: Undead’s Skin

The next morning.

Gu Jin woke up early the next morning, her mind still preoccupied with the necromancy element.

She sat on her bed, deep in thought. If there’s no book, then I’ll just have to figure it out myself.

Her fingers tapped rhythmically on her knee as she considered her options.

I need to make the skeleton warriors look more like regular undead. Maybe I can use magic to alter their appearance... or create an illusion to disguise them.

The idea seemed plausible, but it would require a lot of experimentation.

Determined, she got up and headed to the training grounds.

The sun was barely rising, and the campus was still quiet. Perfect.

Summoning her first skeleton warrior, she studied it carefully.

Its bones were polished and pristine, almost glowing faintly in the dim light.

It was too perfect—too different from the decayed, ragged look of normal undead.

Not to mention undead have skins...while her skeleton warriors...had none.

What to do...

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.

She frowned, setting the book down and walking over to open it.

Who would visit the training field in the morning?

She had deliberately locked the door, to not let others see her skeleton warrior. And since it was 4 am in the morning, there was hardly any light.

If anyone dared to sneak, they wouldn’t be able to see anything, until and unless they had X-Ray vision or some magical equipment.

Her space was already keeping a watch, so she wasn’t worried about someone using a magical artifact.

Yet for her safety, Gu Jin summoned her skeleton warrior back.

To her surprise, it was Luo Meng. He stood there with a bright smile, holding a small box in his hands.

"Morning, Master!" he greeted cheerfully.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"I thought you might like these," Luo Meng said, holding out the box. "It’s some fresh oranges. I heard you liked them."

Gu Jin blinked, caught off guard. "Oranges?"

"Yeah," Luo Meng said, scratching the back of his head.

"I, uh, remembered you mentioning it once, so I thought I’d get some for you."

Her heart softened a little as she took the box.

"Thanks, Luo Meng."

"No problem," he said, his smile widening.

"Anyway, I’ll let you get back to whatever you were doing. Just wanted to drop these off."

As he turned to leave, Gu Jin found herself smiling slightly.

Maybe giving Luo Meng a chance wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

With that, she turned and started to focus on the skeleton warrior.

"Hm... undead have skin...so the first thing I have to do is...find a way to grow skin for my skeleton warriors...

No. Wait! I just have to ensure that 10 of my skeleton warriors have skin. As for other skeleton warriors...it won’t matter!"

An undead element awakner can only summon up to 10 undeads.

The ranks of undead can rise, but the number of undead remains the same.

"How can I create a skin...no...to be precise a decaying skin..." Gu Jin muttered and thought of the elements she had.

The most suitable element for her experiment seems to be...ah! Plant Element.

Gu Jin’s eyes brightened.

Her plant element was special. It has poison as well as healing attributes.

Poison and healing, she thought.

Two sides of the same coin. If I can grow something that looks like skin and make it flexible enough to stretch over the bones, I might just pull this off.

She summoned her skeleton warrior again, its bones gleaming faintly under the first rays of dawn.

"Alright," she muttered. "Time for some botanical experimentation."

First, she conjured a small sapling using her plant element. It sprouted quickly, a tiny green shoot that twisted and grew in her palm.

She infused it with both the healing and poison aspects of her magic, aiming to create a balance.

The poison would provide a decayed look, while the healing would ensure the "skin" held together.

The sapling grew into a thin, pale vine. Gu Jin carefully wrapped it around one of the skeleton warrior’s arms.

It clung tightly, forming a layer that almost resembled sinew.

"Hmm, not bad," she murmured, tilting her head.

"But it’s too thin. It needs to look more like... skin."

She adjusted the magic flowing into the vine, imagining a thicker, more pliable texture.

The vine responded, bulking up and spreading out like a creeping plant.

It began to cover the skeleton’s arm completely, taking on a leathery appearance.

"Better," she said, a small smile forming on her lips.

Next, she focused on adding color.

Normal undead had pale, ashen skin, often tinged with green or gray.

She summoned more of her plant element, mixing in the faintest hint of poison to create a mottled, sickly hue.

As the skeleton’s arm transformed, it started to look convincingly like a decayed limb.

The vine had taken on a rough texture, with uneven patches that mimicked the imperfections of flesh.

Gu Jin stepped back, studying her work.

The arm looked good, but the rest of the skeleton still gleamed in stark contrast.

"Alright, one down, nine to go," she said, rolling up her sleeves.

She spent the next hour refining her technique, wrapping vines around the skeleton’s limbs, torso, and skull.

Each section required careful attention to detail, as she adjusted the texture and color to ensure a natural, decayed look.

By the time she finished, the skeleton warrior looked nothing like its former self.

The polished bones were now hidden beneath a layer of faux skin that was mottled, cracked, and convincingly undead.

"Not bad," she said, a satisfied grin on her face.

But her work wasn’t done yet.

Undead didn’t just look decayed—they also moved in a certain way, sluggish and jerky.

Gu Jin infused her skeleton warrior with a faint trace of her poison magic, dulling its movements slightly.

The skeleton now stumbled and swayed like a true undead.

Finally, she added a torn, tattered robe over the warrior for good measure.

The fabric hung loosely, further enhancing the illusion.

Gu Jin stepped back, wiping a bead of sweat from her brow.

The morning sun was now fully up, casting a golden glow over the training grounds.

The skeleton warrior stood before her, a perfect replica of a low-level undead.

If anyone saw it now, they would never guess it was summoned by a necromancer.

"Mission accomplished," she said, crossing her arms with a satisfied smirk.

Just then the door of the training room was knocked and the sound of footsteps was followed by various conversations.

Gu Jin quickly opened the door and the students were stunned to see Gu Jin.

But before they can question her, Long Yifan’s stern voice sounds,

"Keep moving."

The students scattered like leaves in the wind, muttering apologies as they rushed away.

Gu Jin crossed her arms, leaning casually against the doorway as Long Yifan finally turned his attention to her.

"Good morning Miss Gu." Long Yifan smiled, "Did you sleep well?"

Gu Jin ignored him and turned to follow the students.

Just like the previous day, the training continued. Except, all the students as if they would go crazy. They were mentally as well as physically exhausted!

Due to the exercise in their notes, they were physically exhausted.

As for mentally? Thanks to Long Yifan’s one-sided public display of affection.

"Miss Gu, do you want me to correct your posture? You look a bit stiff."

"Miss Gu, are you tired? Do you want me to carry you to the resting bench?"

"Miss Gu, please don’t push yourself too hard."

On the other hand, if anyone else made any mistake, Long Yifan would call them out in a stern voice,

"Hey, you! Yes! Why is your posture so stiff? Are you a block of wooden log? You will run 20 laps extra!"

"You are tired? Go and run 20 laps, you will feel better? What? You want rest? Just how weak you are."

Long Yifan swept at a glance to all the students who looked a beaten dog and said in a disappointed voice,

"This is the age where you all will be filled with youth energy. You shouldn’t stop yourself from pushing yourself hard!"

Students: "..." Their senior... instructor is too busy flirting to even notice them!

Gu Jin rolled her eyes for the hundredth time that morning.

If she had a coin for every time Long Yifan tried to "help" her, she’d probably own the academy by now.

"Miss Gu, are you sure you’re not cold? I can bring you a jacket if—" Long Yifan started, but Gu Jin cut him off with a sharp glare.

"I’m fine," she said, her voice firm.

The students around her exchanged tired, knowing glances.

Everyone had been subjected to Long Yifan’s favoritism toward Gu Jin, and it was draining the last bits of their patience.

"Why don’t you just marry her already?" someone muttered under their breath.
