The Mighty Mage
Chapter 369: Weakness

Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Weakness

Gu Jin ignored her. Logically speaking, what Gu Aihan did was never her concern.

Four elements at the age of 22? Might be a prodigy, but compared to Gu Jin...Gu Jin preferred to remain silent.

With her one element at emperor rank, two at advanced rank, and one at intermediate rank...Gu Aihan was just like a child to her.

Nan Bei however had a different plan, she suddenly shouted,

"Gu Jin I want to challenge you."

Gu Jin paused and spat out two words, "Not interested."

Nan Bei gritted her teeth and tried to provoke Gu Jin, "What scared already? You are pathetic!"

Gu Jin rolled her eyes, if she didn’t know what Nan Bei was planning then her years of staying in the mafia organization would be a waste.

Was Nan Bei taking revenge on Gu Aihan’s behalf? Maybe Nan Bei will present it like that.

But if Nan Bei truly wanted revenge on Gu Aihan’s behalf, why not ask for a duel before? Why wait till Gu Jin’s mana results were out before challenging Gu Jin?

Nan Bei just wanted to see if Gu Jin had the potential to become one of the strongest mages.

When she saw Gu Jin’s mana testing result, she knew how powerful Gu Jin was.

After all, according to Nan Bei Gu Jin had 2 elements. But now Gu Jin awakens three more elements.

Once Gu Jin awakens three more elements, she will be difficult to defeat.

On awakening an element, the mana reservoir of a mage increases by two fold too. In simpler terms, the stamina of the mage will increase.

However for now Gu Jin only had 2 elements.

As long as she defeats Gu Jin now, even if Gu Jin becomes a powerful mage in the future, Nan Bei can use the fact that she once defeated Gu Jin.

Stupid.

That was all Gu Jin could think about Nan Bei. If Nan Bei knew that Gu Jin already had 5 elements by now, she might have puked blood.

Nan Bei waited for Gu Jin’s reaction but seeing her walking away, Nan Bei was furious.

"Gu Jin if you dare to ignore my threat, I will tell Ebon Shadows of your potential." Nan Bei threatened.

Gu Jin laughed softly, the sound cold and mocking. She turned around fully, her piercing gaze meeting Nan Bei’s.

"You think you’re being clever, don’t you? Go ahead. Tell them. See if I care."

Earlier she had kept a low profile because of her low cultivation.

Who was she earlier? An orphan with no strong background.

The elders of the alchemy cultivation might have backed her up, but it wasn’t enough to keep her safe.

Organizations like Ebon Shadows could have easily captured her and used her.

But now? She was the daughter of the prestigious Gu Family.

Why should she hide her advantages?

Not to mention, her cultivation has risen to great extents too.

Nan Bei froze. She hadn’t expected such a confident response.

"Do you think I’m still the same as before?" Gu Jin’s voice was steady but carried a sharp edge.

"Go ahead and tell Ebon Shadows. Let them come. I’d like to see them try."

Nan Bei’s bravado cracked. She hadn’t planned for this. Gu Jin’s calmness, her complete lack of fear, was unsettling.

"Why are you so arrogant?" Nan Bei muttered, her voice quieter now.

Gu Jin smirked.

"Arrogance? No. It’s called confidence, Nan Bei. Unlike you, I don’t need to rely on petty tricks to prove myself. And if you really think you can beat me, then you’re even dumber than I thought."

The students watching the exchange started whispering among themselves. Some laughed quietly, clearly enjoying the show.

Nan Bei’s face turned even redder. "You’re all talk, Gu Jin. You can’t back it up!"

Gu Jin tilted her head slightly as if considering something.

"I’ll tell you this once, Nan Bei. You’re not worth my time. And honestly, if I fought you now, it’d only make you look even worse when you lose."

That was the final blow. Nan Bei shouted,

"Gu Jin if you don’t agree to fight against me, I will expose your secret."

Gu Jin chuckled.

Her secret? There were only two. But she doubts, Nan Bei will know either of them.

"Oh? What is it?" Gu Jin asked with interest.

Nan Bei seeing Gu Jin’s confident smile, narrowed her eyes and said in a lowered voice,

"That you have a third element, which is not an undead element."

Gu Jin froze, but she quickly regained. Her heart skipped a beat.

Was Nan Bei talking about the Necromancy Element? Does she know about her necromancy element?

For a moment Gu Jin’s eyes flashed with murderous intent.

At first, she didn’t understand the amount of backlash a mage would get if they had a necromancy element.

But when she saw the video of necromancers getting brutally killed, she understood the amount of danger lurking around her.

In today’s world other than some old foxes, hardly anyone knows about her necromancy element.

To make herself unsuspecting, Gu Jin used her necromancy element openly. Why?

First, no one in today’s generation knows about necromancers.

Second, she made her skeleton warriors look like normal undead warriors.

Third, the more people believe she has an undead element, the more easier it would be to lie in the future.

But that doesn’t change the fact, that if the news about her possessing the necromancy element spread out, she will be done for.

Even the Gu Family will be unable to save her.

Gu Jin’s lips curled into a slight smile.

"Oh? That’s what you’re going with? My secret is having a third element. How creative."

Nan Bei narrowed her eyes, sensing the sarcasm but unable to tell if Gu Jin was truly unaffected or just pretending.

"Don’t act so smug," Nan Bei snapped.

"If people find out, do you think they’ll just let you be? A third element that isn’t undead but has properties like undead? They’ll start asking questions, Gu Jin. Questions you won’t want to answer."

Gu Jin chuckled softly, her voice light but dangerous.

"You seem to think you have something on me. But let me give you some advice, Nan Bei. Threats only work when you’re stronger than the person you’re threatening."

Nan Bei’s face turned red with anger. "You—!"

Gu Jin cut her off, her gaze sharp and cold.

"Do you think I’m afraid of you? If you really believe that, then you’re more foolish than I thought."

The students watching the confrontation were whispering louder now.

Some were clearly entertained, while others looked uneasy, sensing the tension between the two girls.

Nan Bei hesitated. She had expected Gu Jin to panic or show fear, but Gu Jin’s calmness was throwing her off.

Gu Jin stepped closer, her voice dropping just enough that only Nan Bei could hear her.

"If you want to play games, go ahead. But be warned, Nan Bei. If you cross a line, I won’t hold back."

Nan Bei’s confidence wavered, but she forced herself to stand her ground.

"You think you’re invincible, don’t you? Just wait, Gu Jin. I’ll make sure everyone sees the real you."

Gu Jin smirked, leaning back.

"I’ll be waiting. But don’t cry when it doesn’t go the way you think."

Without another word, Gu Jin turned and walked away, her posture as calm and unbothered as ever.

What Nan Bei didn’t see was, that when Gu Jin was standing near her, a shadow from Gu Jin’s shadow, moved toward Nan Bei’s shadows and blended.

Once Gu Jin left, Nan Bei walked into a secluded corner and called someone. The moment the call was connected, Nan Bei started talking in an agitated voice,

"Aihan, I don’t think the information you gave me is correct. She doesn’t seem scared at all. Maybe her third element is just a normal undead element."

Gu Aihan’s stern voice sounded,

"No. I don’t think so. Her third element isn’t an undead element! It might be some other dark and cursed element. Try to get information from her."

Unbeknownst to Nan Bei, Gu Jin’s shadow had already returned to her, carrying whispers of the conversation between her and Gu Aihan.

As she walked through the hallway, Gu Jin’s lips curled into a smirk.

So, they’ve been working together. How cute.

Gu Jin wasn’t worried. Nan Bei and Gu Aihan were both amateurs when it came to real manipulation.

If they thought they could outsmart her, they were sorely mistaken.

However, they definitely have a mastermind behind them. From Gu Aihan’s tone, it was clear that she wasn’t sure about the news.

Most likely she had heard it from somewhere.

Nan Bei paced back and forth in the corner, frustration written all over her face.

"Aihan, she’s acting too calm. What if she’s stronger than we think?"

Gu Aihan’s voice came through the phone, colder this time.

"Stick to the plan. If you start doubting now, you’ll ruin everything."

"But what if she knows what we’re up to?" Nan Bei pressed, her voice lowering as she glanced around to make sure no one was listening.
