Chapter 364: Chapter 364: Culprit
Gu Jin rolled her eyes.
Luo Meng then pulled out a certificate-like thing and showed it to Gu Jin,
"Master see this."
When Gu Jin glanced at the certificate she was surprised. It wasn’t a certificate, it was an admission letter to Beijing University.
"You got admitted to Beijing University too?"
"Hm!" Luo Meng nodded his head and looked at Gu Jin with sparkling eyes as if waiting for her to praise him.
Gu Jin however ignored his gaze and said calmly,
"Congratulations."
Luo Meng wilted slightly before smiling and asking,
"Master, can you date me now?"
Gu Jin stiffened. Date him? But she doesn’t have any feelings for him. However, when she remembered how Luo Meng had saved her earlier, she felt conflicted.
Before she can answer, a calm voice sounds,
"What’s the hurry, Mr. Luo." The familiar arrogant voice made both Gu Jin and Luo Meng stiffen.
When they turned around, they saw Long Yifan standing at the doorframe. With a huge grin on his face, he walked up to them.
Gu Jin’s face turned cold on seeing him and she ordered Luo Meng,
"Ask him to leave."
Luo Meng visibly relaxed a bit and turned toward Long Yifan with an apologetic look on his face,
"I am sorry Mr. Long, my master is in a rare good mood because of my admission to the Beijing University. It would be better if you leave."
’Tsk...tsk. Such a green tea.’ Long Yifan muttered.
In these past few days, he had sorted his feelings out and decided to focus on one task: Beg for forgiveness.
He had hurt Gu Jin and she had many misunderstandings about him, it was his duty to clear them and apologize for the mistake he had committed.
After giving Luo Meng a reply, Long Yifan turned to Gu Jin and said in the utmost sincere voice,
"I am sorry. For all the things you have suffered till now."
Gu Jin remained silent.
Luo Meng was amused and didn’t interrupt.
He wanted to see Long Yifan go on his knees. After all, till now Long Yifan had never knelt down.
He might have, but it was only for his mother and sister.
Gu Jin crossed her arms, her expression as cold as ice.
She stared at Long Yifan for a long moment before speaking.
"Sorry?" she said, her voice calm but sharp.
"Do you think one apology is enough to erase everything?"
Long Yifan didn’t flinch. Instead, he nodded, his face serious.
"No, I know it’s not enough," he admitted.
"But it’s a start. I’m not asking for forgiveness right away. I just want you to know that I regret what I did."
Luo Meng chuckled softly, leaning against the wall.
"Master, do you hear that? He’s trying to act all noble now. Should I fetch a chair so you can watch his performance comfortably?"
Gu Jin didn’t respond to Luo Meng’s teasing.
Her eyes stayed fixed on Long Yifan.
"You’re wasting your time," she said bluntly.
"I don’t need your apology, and I definitely don’t need your regret."
Long Yifan took a deep breath, his hands clenching into fists.
"I understand you’re angry, and you have every right to be. But I won’t give up. I’ll prove to you that I’m sincere."
Luo Meng rolled his eyes dramatically.
"Wow, what dedication. Master, should I take notes for you? This could be a good script for a drama."
"Enough," Gu Jin snapped, glaring at Luo Meng.
Luo Meng straightened up, looking slightly sheepish.
"Sorry, Master. I’ll shut up now."
Long Yifan stepped closer, his gaze steady.
"Gu Jin, I’m not here to disturb your life or cause trouble. I just want to make things right."
Gu Jin raised an eyebrow.
"And how do you plan to do that?"
"I’ll show you through my actions," Long Yifan said.
"Not just today, but every day from now on."
Gu Jin’s lips curled into a faint smirk.
"Big words. Let’s see if you can back them up."
She knew the pain of chasing after love every single day only to be met with disappointment. It was too hard to bear.
Someone as arrogant as Long Yifan could never bear it.
Heck, she doesn’t even know as to why he was suddenly claiming to like her.
Maybe it was because she had turned out to be the real daughter of the Gu Family.
Long Yifan’s expression didn’t change, even after hearing Gu Jin’s harsh words.
He stood there, his back straight and his eyes full of determination.
"I know you don’t believe me right now," he said, his voice calm.
"But I’m not going to stop just because it’s hard. You can hate me, ignore me, or push me away, but I’ll still be here."
Gu Jin scoffed, crossing her arms.
"We’ll see how long that lasts. Words are easy, Long Yifan. Actions take effort. And effort isn’t something I’ve seen much of from you."
Luo Meng snickered from his spot near the wall.
"She’s got a point. You’re all talk, Mr. Long."
Long Yifan ignored him and kept his gaze on Gu Jin.
"You’ll see," he said simply.
Gu Jin let out a soft sigh, already tired of the conversation. "Fine. Do whatever you want. Just don’t expect anything from me."
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away, leaving both men behind.
Luo Meng stared at Long Yifan before commenting,
"Give up. She might have liked you in the past, but no...she doesn’t."
Long Yifan calmly smiled,
"It’s alright I can wait."
"Can you still wait if I become her boyfriend?" Luo Meng challenged with a smile.
Long Yifan paused before slowly replying while staring straight into his eyes,
"If you become her boyfriend, it means she loves you. I will never come in between you both, but...I will wait for her. I will wait for the moment you leave her and then...I will claim her back."
Luo Meng chuckled,
"Really? What if I will never leave her?"
Long Yifan’s calm expression didn’t waver as he replied, "Then I’ll keep waiting. Even if it takes forever."
Luo Meng raised an eyebrow, surprised by his determination.
"Forever is a long time, Mr. Long. You sure you’ve got that kind of patience?"
"I do," Long Yifan said firmly. "When it’s for someone like Gu Jin, it’s worth it."
Luo Meng crossed his arms and smirked.
"You’re really something, huh? Well, good luck waiting, then. But don’t blame me if she forgets you while I make her happy."
Long Yifan didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he glanced in the direction Gu Jin had walked off to, his eyes softening.
"If she’s truly happy, that’s all that matters. But if she ever feels hurt or let down... I’ll be there."
Luo Meng chuckled and shook his head.
"Suit yourself. But don’t say I didn’t warn you when this waiting game gets too hard."
Long Yifan gave a small, knowing smile.
"You don’t understand. This isn’t a game for me."
It was a chance he had got after a lot of begging.
..........................
Beijing University.
The 1 week vacation was soon over and all the seniors and juniors were called back.
The University had already found the culprit.
It was the first time in the history of Beijing University, the military training for the students was canceled.
Instead a small training session was conducted.
Gu Jin walked through the gates with her bag slung over her shoulder, her face calm but distant.
She wasn’t excited about coming back, but she wasn’t dreading it either. It was just another day.
Luo Meng trailed behind her, carrying an extra bag she hadn’t asked him to, but he insisted anyway.
"Master, do you think anyone missed me here?" Luo Meng asked, grinning.
Missed him? He was just admitted! He clearly wants to mess with her.
Gu Jin rolled her eyes. "Maybe the cleaning staff missed your mess."
Luo Meng pouted but didn’t argue.
As they approached the main building, a crowd had gathered near the bulletin board. Curious, Gu Jin and Luo Meng moved closer.
"What’s going on?" Luo Meng whispered, craning his neck to see over the crowd.
"The culprit for the sudden change in the portal is found." someone nearby said.
Gu Jin’s expression didn’t change, but she felt a small flicker of interest.
The announcement on the board was clear:
"The culprit for the mishap with the bus leading toward the military training grounds has been found.
Appropriate disciplinary actions have been taken. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to students and staff."
"Guess the mystery’s solved," Luo Meng said, tilting his head.
"But they didn’t name the person. That’s boring."
"It’s not our business," Gu Jin replied flatly, turning away.
However, in her heart, Gu Jin thought that maybe the culprit was never found and hence the name wasn’t mentioned.
In fact Gu Jin’s guess was correct. The university after investigating for a long while couldn’t find the culprit at all.
