The Mighty Mage
Chapter 266: Transformation

Chapter 266: Chapter 266: Transformation

Gu Jin who had forgotten about the dream suddenly remembered the first guess she had made about the magic world.

She thought she had transmigrated into a novel world. In the past three years though she always felt as if the world was too real to be called a novel world.

Until she heard the word ’development’

What development? Once she asked that question herself, the only answer she got was that maybe the magic world was indeed a novel world.

So the development here could only mean...character development.

Liang Bao loves to read books. Sometimes for a fresh start, she would read novels.

One of the most common words that Liang Bao would use was character development.

’Jin’er this novel’s character development is too forced! I mean why does a character have to lose someone before coming to his or her senses?’

At that time Gu Jin used to laugh and tell her that it was just a novel.

However, when she recalled her previous life, she couldn’t.

Now, when her first estimation was made, Gu Jin could only come up with one thought.

Whoever the author was of the novel, he or she was an evil person.

The female lead...the girl named Yan’er, could save ’Gu Jin’ but she acts as if she is too weak even move.

Bullsh*t.

"What are you saying? What character development." Yan’er frowned, but the viciousness in her eyes didn’t fade.

"Didn’t you say my sacrifice was important for your development? What type of development do you mean?" Gu Jin questioned her instead.

Yan’er was stunned,

"Development. If I want to become like my mother, me and my brother will have to go throw various sacrifices and only then would be able to become as great as our parents."

Now this time Gu Jin was stunned.

She couldn’t differentiate between reality and myth.

Yan’er stepped forward and said in a condescending tone,

"You will have to die so that I can become great!"

Gu Jin chuckled,

"If that is the logic you are going to follow...then I won’t stop you."

Once Gu Jin finished her words, she summoned a plant vine, ready to attack Yan’er.

"Hey! What the f*ck are you doing? If you agree...then why are you standing in an attack position?"

"Didn’t you say, that to become great, one has to make sacrifices? Then my dear friend and the dear daughter of the mighty mage couple...how about becoming a sacrifice so that I can become great." Gu Jin said.

Yan’er’s face paled instantly.

She took a step back, fear flickering in her eyes as Gu Jin’s plant vine slithered closer, its sharp thorns gleaming menacingly.

"W-what are you talking about?!" Yan’er stammered, her confident facade crumbling.

"I’m supposed to be the one who rises to greatness! You—you can’t do this!"

Gu Jin smiled coldly,

"Why not? Isn’t this the logic you so passionately believe in? Sacrifice leads to greatness, right?

If that’s true, then let’s follow through with it. You become the sacrifice, and I’ll rise to power."

Yan’er’s hands trembled as she tried to summon her magic, but due to her fear, she could hardly summon anything.

"No! This isn’t how it’s supposed to go!"

Gu Jin advanced,

"You want me to die for your so-called development, yet you’re unwilling to offer yourself up for the same? Hypocrisy at its finest."

"Stop! I—I’m the chosen one! I was supposed to become great!"

Gu Jin’s expression didn’t soften.

"Chosen by who? The world? You were never chosen, Yan’er. You were deluded into thinking so."

The plant vine coiled tighter, inching closer to Yan’er’s throat.

Gu Jin didn’t even need to move her hand; her control over her magic had become so precise that the vines responded to her thoughts.

Yan’er gasped for breath, her voice cracking.

"Please... don’t do this! I—I didn’t mean it...!"

Gu Jin looked at her coldly.

"You didn’t mean it? You were ready to let me die, but now that you’re faced with your own mortality, you’re begging for mercy?"

The desperation in Yan’er’s eyes grew.

"I was wrong! Please, spare me!"

Seeing that Gu Jin didn’t have any intention to spare her, Yan’er suddenly used some strange language.

"Escape?" Gu Jin heard Yan’er’s words.

Before vanishing Yan’er’s eyes widened in disbelief, as if she couldn’t believe that Gu Jin understood her words.

Gu Jin felt a light enveloping her and the next second she found herself in a dark place.

The place was a pitch-black area with nothing in front of her or behind her.

She couldn’t see anything. The only thing she could see was the light glow from her body.

’Where am I?’ Gu Jin thought. ’What is happening?’

The last thing that she remembered was...vomiting...

Suddenly some dark energy waves started surrounding her. Gu Jin tried her best to dodge the waves but they were so much that she could hardly dodge them.

A familiar voice sounded near her ears,

"Sister! Sister, please don’t resist it."

Si Kai?

Gu Jin stopped dodging.

She trusted Si Kai. For some reason, she felt as if...he would never hurt her.

Maybe it was because of the panic in his voice or maybe it was because of his choked voice.

The dark energy waves slowly covered her glowing body in the empty black space.

All the voices seem to have left her ears.

Her mind turned blank and a strange numbness took over her.

In her daze, she seemed to have heard the sound of swords clashing and fighting.

There was also Si Kai’s voice. He sounded as if he was struggling with something.

What was happening...

Time passed and when Gu Jin finally opened her eyes, she saw a haunting scene.

Right in front of her was Si Kai who was struggling to hide himself with the cloak, his entire body was riddled with injuries, and his face though covered by a mask could be seen by her.

Beside him were various human bodies as well as parasite’s body...

Her skeleton warriors were cut in two pieces too.

And the person who was responsible for all of the chaos was...the blue-haired man, whom she assumed was dead...

Gu Jin’s eyes widened in disbelief.

She had checked his pulse! She did! How could he still be alive?

On a closer look though, when she saw the blue-haired man clearly...she realized he was a bit different.

Why was his body fluctuating so much?

Gu Jin didn’t have much time to think it clear because the next second she saw the blue-haired man slicing Si Kai’s neck.

"No!!"

Si Kai’s head rolled out of his body. His eyes were widened as he looked at Gu Jin. There was reluctance and heartache in his eyes.

"No!!"

Gu Jin’s eyes turned bloodshot.

Before she could realize her consciousness started to fade replaced by a dark look in her eyes.

............................

"Is it even working?" Si Kai asked with uncertainty.

He looked at the skeleton warrior in front of him who was whispering something in Gu Jin’s ears while transferring some dark energy waves in Gu Jin’s body.

At the same time, he asked, three light mages to transfer light energy in Gu Jin’s body.

Just as they were busy doing so, the underground tunnel started to shake.

Si Kai’s expression changed, along with the other humans in some other part of the underground tunnel.

Ren Fulin instantly commanded,

"Evacuate the place! Evacuate this underground tunnel! It is about to collapse!"

The soldiers who had frozen due to the sudden shaking, instantly started to run towards the exit.

Feng Boyu ran to the location where Si Kai, Gu Jin, the skeleton warrior, and other three light mages were present.

"Hurry! Leave this place!"

Si Kai held Gu Jin in his arms and turned to leave.

The skeleton warrior and three light mages could only withdraw their energy.

Si Kai ordered one of the earth skeleton warriors,

"Dig a hole. Dig a hole in the ceiling. It takes 30 minutes to escape from the underground tunnel, even if we start to run now, we won’t be able to reach out."

The earth skeleton warrior obeyed Si Kai’s command and immediately started digging through the ceiling of the underground tunnel.

The rumbling continued to intensify, and the walls of the tunnel began to crack, sending debris raining down on them.

Feng Boyu urged,

"Si Kai, we don’t have much time! This whole place could collapse any second!"

Si Kai tightened his grip on Gu Jin, who was still unconscious, her body limp in his arms. He glanced at the skeleton warrior’s progress—it was fast, but not fast enough.

The ceiling was weakening, and the vibrations grew stronger.

"Keep going!" Si Kai shouted to the skeleton warrior, "We’re almost out of time!"

The other soldiers were already running toward the exit, helping as many as they could along the way.

Feng Boyu stayed by Si Kai’s side, ready to assist.
