The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 267: Erinyes And Lamashtu
Chapter 267: Chapter 267: Erinyes And Lamashtu
The three light mages, though drained from the energy transfer, stood by in case their magic would be needed again.
Finally, with a loud crack, the skeleton warrior broke through the ceiling. A beam of light streamed down from above, offering a glimpse of the outside world.
"Go!" Si Kai shouted, motioning for the others to escape first.
One by one, the light mages and Feng Boyu climbed up through the hole, pulling themselves to safety.
The skeleton warriors followed, their movements more agile than the humans.
Si Kai was the last to ascend, carefully maneuvering Gu Jin’s unconscious form as he climbed.
Just as he reached the top, the tunnel beneath them gave one final, thunderous shake.
With a deafening roar, the entire underground structure collapsed, leaving a cloud of dust and rubble behind.
Si Kai and the others stumbled out of the hole, coughing as they inhaled the dust-filled air.
They had barely made it in time.
Feng Boyu approached, his expression tense.
"We need to move farther away. This area isn’t safe yet."
Even after using such tactics, a part of the soldiers who were rescued earlier died.
Si Kai nodded.
Carrying Gu Jin, he followed Feng Boyu and the others as they retreated to a safer location, away from the ruins of the underground tunnel.
Once they were far enough, they settled in a small clearing in the forest. Si Kai gently laid Gu Jin down.
The skeleton warrior and the light mages took it as a signal and stood up to start the treatment again.
"The remaining survivors of the City S, I love to announce to you about our new king."
All the soldiers, the survivors, and the people hiding felt pressure on themselves.
An overwhelming pressure.
A power forced them to lower their heads.
Few of the strong ones resisted the pressure and looked at the sky to see who it was.
There were two figures in the sky.
Si Kai used his enhanced vision to look at the figure clearly.
The first figure was covered with a white cloak and the second one was completely visible.
Surprisingly the second figure looked exactly like the blue-haired man his sister had killed earlier.
But who was the figure in the white cloak?
Suddenly both the white cloak figure and the second figure looked back in Si Kai’s direction.
This look was enough to intensify the pressure around Si Kai. The pressure was so overwhelming, that Si Kai’s internal organs started to twist.
In the end, he vomited blood and fell to his knees.
"Don’t look in their direction!" Feng Boyu shouted.
But he was still a step too late. Something among their group caught the white cloak figure’s attention, he signaled something to the second figure, who smiled and nodded his head.
However, the second figure didn’t leave right away.
Instead, he continued to announce,
"Everyone, please welcome, his majesty, Erinyes."
A loud cheering voice sounded. The cheering voices were so loud that the entire City S was filled with the sound of cheering. The voices were coming from all directions, which made the surviving human’s face turn pale.
They weren’t the ones who were cheering. The only ones who were cheering were parasites. By the sound just now...it was clear...that the population of parasites was far more than it seem.
The surviving commoners cried because they lost their hope. While the surviving soldier’s face turned serious since they knew the reality.
They roughly estimated the number of parasites and reached a conclusion. They are fighting a lost battle.
They can still deal with 500,000 parasites, but it took them an entire day.
They thought they had given a significant blow to the parasites, but now it seems as if it was all their wishful thinking...
The parasites might be more than the total citizens of the City S...
No...maybe they were at least 10 times the citizens of the City S.
30 million was the rough estimation.
How much time will it take to take down all those parasites?
Heh.
The truth was they might never be able to defeat them.
As the chilling realization sank in, the once hopeful faces of the survivors twisted into expressions of hopelessness.
"We have lost..." One of the soldiers muttered.
Feng Boyu clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white as the overwhelming reality hit him.
"No... we can’t...," he stammered, his voice breaking. But deep down, he knew the truth.
"We were fools," One of the soldiers muttered, "We thought we could protect the city... protect the people... but look at us now. We’re nothing but prey in their game."
Some of the surviving humans in the forest started to break down too.
A woman in the crowd, clutching her child to her chest, started sobbing uncontrollably.
"I can’t... I can’t take this anymore! We’re going to die, aren’t we?" Her cries grew louder, and no one had the strength to comfort her. They all knew she was right.
Another soldier, his face streaked with blood and dirt, slammed his fist into the ground.
"We’re doomed... They outnumber us. We’re just waiting to be slaughtered."
"To assure you that our new king is strong he will perform a small trick." The second figure in the sky said.
The moment he finished, the white figure raised his hand and suddenly clenched.
Whoosh.
Whoosh.
Whoosh.
A few of the weak-minded humans immediately exploded.
The remaining surviving humans could only stare at the dead humans who were standing beside them just a few seconds ago.
The remaining defense of the surviving people broke.
Despair overtook them.
They felt helpless and hopeless.
Si Kai, still kneeling with blood trickling down his chin, tried to steady his breath.
He glanced at Gu Jin, her lifeless body beside him.
"You fought so hard..." Si Kai whispered, his voice hoarse. "And for what? A handful of survivors...?"
He recalled how just a few seconds ago, he had woken up in space and decided to surprise Gu Jin.
However, it was Gu Jin who surprised him, with all the information.
She could have stayed behind. She could have left, after saving Song Hancheng and his fiance, but...she chose to stay.
She believed called herself a villain. But in reality, she couldn’t bear to see deaths...
Why...why couldn’t his sister be selfish? Didn’t she say she doesn’t care about others’ life? So why!
If she had chosen to leave, wouldn’t she have saved herself from all the troubles?
Foolish!
She was truly foolish.
"You are foolish sister." Si Kai muttered. A small drop of tears slide down his eyes. He wasn’t worried whether he would live or not.
Does it matter, if he lives or dies? No one will care for his death other than his sister.
To him, the only thing that mattered was his sister.
If anything happens to her, then he will never be able to forgive himself and his sister too.
"Sister if anything happens to...I will blame you. I will blame you till the end. Sister, if anything happens to you...I will die with you. Then in the afterlife, I will scold you for your wrong choice." Si Kai muttered softly.
It was as if he was just whispering sweet nothings.
The hearts of the soldiers around chilled and ached at the same time.
A part of the reason why Gu Jin reached such a situation was because of them...
Because of them, Si Kai had to lose his sister...
Guilt overwhelmed them.
"My...my. Hey beast you are truly sounding like a psycho-obsessive lover." A cold and stiff voice said.
When everyone turned around they saw the white-cloaked figure named Erinyes and the blue-haired man.
The blue-haired man chuckled when he felt everyone’s attention on himself,
"Hello everyone my name is Lamashtu. You can call me Lam."
Lamashtu had blue hair that reached his soldiers, he had straight eyebrows, a sharp nose, fair skin, and beautiful blue eyes.
His lips were blood red making him look beautiful. The only problem was his monstrous amount of sharp teeth.
They didn’t seem teeth at all. They looked like small knifes capable of killing anyone with just a single bite.
Lamashtu’s smile stretched unnaturally wide, his sharp teeth glinting under the faint light.
He chuckled, the sound eerily filling the air, a cruel mockery of the despair that surrounded them.
"You humans are truly amusing," Lamashtu drawled, his voice cold and condescending.
"You fight, you cry, and you cling to hope like it’s going to save you. But deep down, you know the truth, don’t you?
You are nothing. Weak. Fragile. And now, you’re standing on the edge of your own annihilation."
He paced slowly in the air, hovering above the ground as though gravity held no claim over him.
His blue hair swayed in the breeze, and those monstrous teeth flashed every time he spoke.
His gaze shifted to Si Kai, who knelt protectively over Gu Jin, still unconscious, and bleeding internally from the overwhelming pressure.
The sight of Si Kai’s broken form seemed to amuse Lamashtu even more.
