The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 237: The Glove’s Use
Chapter 237: Chapter 237: The Glove’s Use
Liang Bao was very skilled and the result made Gu Jin satisfied.
The special part of the Magic Boots was that they had a skill of their own.
Very few artifacts have special skills. Sometimes other than just protecting or speeding up the user, these artifacts don’t do much.
However, the artifact made by Liang Bao always had an active or passive skill.
This was something, many armament masters weren’t capable of.
An active skill means the artifact could unleash a certain ability on command, while passive skills are always in effect, providing ongoing benefits.
The space hurriedly made a protective barrier around Gu Jin while she was putting on the Magic Boots.
The shadow assassin didn’t want Gu Jin to become more powerful and hence they tried their best to attack Gu Jin while she was putting on.
After wearing the Magic Boots, Gu Jin took out Magic Armour. This wasn’t made by Liang Bao.
It was the Magic armor, Gu Jin acquired from an auction when she was looking for some resources.
The armor was of spirit grade.
(Ordinary Grade --> Static Grade --> Holy Grade --> Spirit Grade --> Soul Grade --> Semi-God grade --> God Grade.)
She quickly wore it. Though the armor was heavy and could reduce her speed, it had a very good defense mechanism.
(Author: For those who are wondering as to why she didn’t use it against the 1% group was because she couldn’t open or access her space at that time. So she could only use her secondary storage ring in which she had placed the teleportation talismans.)
To further enhance her speed, Gu Jin used a necklace.
Feeling she had been equipped properly she ordered,
"Space retract your barrier."
"Thank god master you said, otherwise god knows how long I could have maintained the barrier." The space said as it retracted the barrier.
Gu Jin activated the Magic Boots’ skill, "Phantom Step."
In an instant, her body became lighter, and her movements grew faster, nearly as silent as the shadow assassins themselves.
As the assassins noticed her sudden change in speed, their face turned grave.
Their figures flickered in and out of visibility, using their "Shadow Cloak" to blend with the darkness.
Gu Jin summoned her poison-laced vines once more, and the green tendrils writhed across the room, seeking to ensnare the assassins.
She whispered, "Poison Vines," and her voice dripped with focus.
The vines, gleaming with toxic energy, lashed out toward the assassins, spreading out to cover as much ground as possible. But the assassins were quick, slipping past the vines
One of the assassins, Shadow Assassin 1, vanished entirely, while the other, Shadow Assassin 2, charged forward with "Wind Slash," sending sharp gusts of wind toward Gu Jin. The blades of wind sliced through the air, aiming directly at her chest.
Gu Jin’s instincts kicked in. She cast her fire element,
"Firey Fist!"
Whoosh.
Gu Jin’s hand which was enveloped with fire crashed with the wind blades.
Flames roared as the two forces met, but the wind blades cut through the fire, forcing Gu Jin to leap backward to avoid the attack.
With her Magic Boots active, she was now faster and more agile than before.
Gu Jin swiftly repositioned herself and observed the assassins closely, knowing she couldn’t afford any more missteps.
The assassins didn’t let up. Shadow Assassin 1 reappeared, darting from the shadows, this time aiming for her blind spots.
Gu Jin didn’t get worried and simply activated her magic armor.
The shadow assassin’s dagger collided with the armor, but the impact was absorbed by the armor.
Gu Jin used the brief moment to cast another spell,
"Flame Burst!"
A wave of fire exploded from her hands, creating a circle of flames around her.
The shadow assassins jumped back, retreating into the shadows to avoid the searing heat.
Gu Jin took a deep breath, assessing the situation.
With her speed enhanced by the Magic Boots and her armor protecting her, she should have an advantage, however, for some reason, the shadow assassins were easily able to avoid her attack.
It was as if all of her attacks were like a child’s play.
"Master be careful they are going to use psychic waves!"
Even Gu Jin could sense the slight distort in the air.
The next second an invisible force rippled through the room—psychic waves. Gu Jin felt a sudden pressure in her mind, like a weight pressing down on her thoughts, making it difficult to focus.
Gu Jin clenched her fists, gritting her teeth as she tried to fight off the mental intrusion. The room around her seemed to blur, and for a moment, she felt dizzy.
The psychic waves targeted her concentration, aiming to disrupt her spellcasting and movements.
"Master my barrier won’t be able to protect you from psychic attacks, why don’t you use the gloves you got from Ancient Magic World?" The space suggested.
Gu Jin didn’t know that the gloves had the power to resist psychic attacks.
No...after coming out from the Ancient Magic World she didn’t even remember it.
Maybe because when she acquired it, she wasn’t in her mind and hence she didn’t think of inspecting it.
She hurriedly took the gloves.
Before she could put them on, the shadow assassin 1 attacked.
"Shadow hands!"
"Shadow blades."
Two hands that were made of shadow rose from the floor and wrapped around Gu Jin’s legs.
Gu Jin felt the shadow hands tighten around her legs, their cold grip immobilizing her.
The psychic pressure in her mind was already disorienting her, and now she was physically restrained.
Shadow Assassin 2 hurriedly made two shurikens made of shadows and threw them in Gu Jin’s direction.
The two shurikens were so powerful that cracks started to appear in Gu Jin’s armors.
Luckily by this time, Gu Jin had worn the gloves.
The moment she put on gloves her mind calmed down.
Suddenly Gu Jin’s eyes widened and she said,
"Wait! They have shadow, psychic, and wind elements...it means they are definitely at Super Rank!"
It wasn’t like Gu Jin couldn’t win against a Super Rank Mage but with two of them, the fight became a bit difficult for her.
She hurriedly thought of a strategy and decided to divide and rule.
The thought of dealing with them all together was a bit scary and unreasonable. If she could take one of them down first then she could deal with the other one later.
Gu Jin hurriedly cast a fire element spell,
"Nine Pillars!"
Nine pillars rose around the shadow Assassin 1 as if caging them in a circular cage.
One by one they started to explode.
Shadow Assassin tried to leave hurriedly, but this time Gu Jin didn’t let leave and used her advanced ranked mutated plant element spell,
"Poison mist."
A poisonous mist started to seep out from Gu Jin’s body, mixing with the flames from the Nine Pillars’ spell.
The shadow assassin, who had been trying to escape the exploding pillars, was now trapped in the combination of fire and poison.
The mist was thick, clinging to the air, and it swirled around the assassin, impairing his movements.
Shadow Assassin 1 tried to use Shadow Cloak to slip away and succeded but he was poisoned.
Gu Jin was panting a little. To use two advanced rank spells one after the other was mana-consuming.
The shadow assassins were surprised too.
After all, it was practically impossible for any mage to cast two advance-rank spells consecutively.
They exchanged glances and for the first time, they had second thoughts.
They wanted to abort the mission.
The person who hired them said that Gu Jin was just an advanced-rank mage and didn’t have a background.
So even if they kill her, no one will pursue them.
It was their first mission and they wanted to perform well but who would have thought that they would encounter a tough cookie?
Just the door of the room was knocked and Liang Bao’s voice sounded,
"Jin’er are you in there? Is everything alright? What are these strange noises?"
Gu Jin was surprised. She didn’t even know when the shadow assassins had closed the door of her room.
Lu Siyao shouted,
"Yeah. And why are you using magic spells, don’t you know that we will have to compensate the manager if anything is burnt?"
Gu Jin: "..." Good! My life is in danger and you are still thinking of compensation. You are truly my best friend.
The two shadow assassins who were indecisive just a few minutes ago, suddenly had an answer.
If they continue to stay behind, their presence will be detected and they might get caught!
Before Gu Jin could answer them, the next second the two shadow assassins ran away.
Gu Jin stood still for a moment, staring at the spot where the shadow assassins had vanished.
She felt relieved that they finally left, but at the same time, she was frustrated.
They had been tough opponents, and although they retreated, she knew they would be back.
