The Mighty Mage
Chapter 238: Mastermind

Chapter 238: Chapter 238: Mastermind

Their sudden departure only confirmed that whoever sent them was not done with her yet.

Liang Bao knocked on the door again. "Jin’er? Is everything okay?"

Gu Jin answered and used her plant vines to unlock the door of her room,

"Come in."

Since all of them were involved in this it was better if they knew what had happened. What if those shadow assassins attack her friends?

Liang Bao stepped into the room, her expression immediately turning to one of concern as she scanned the room.

"What on earth happened here? It looks like a battlefield."

Gu Jin waved her hand,

"Uh... just met with two very determined assassins. Nothing major."

Liang Bao’s eyes widened.

"Nothing major? Jin’er, there are scorch marks on the ceiling, and—what is that? Poison vines wrapped around the chandelier?!"

Gu Jin glanced up, and sure enough, the vines were dangling from the chandelier, looking like an avant-garde piece of art.

She blushed slightly. "Okay, maybe it got a little out of hand."

Suddenly the alarm of the room went off.

The alarm that was supposed to ring when someone attacked one of the customers, for some reason didn’t react until now.

Lu Siyao blinked,

"Uh-Oh...looks like we are in trouble."

Within the next 3 minutes, a man in a business suit walked inside Gu Jin’s room to check the situation.

The door burst open, and in marched a man in a crisp business suit, his tie perfectly knotted, and his hair slicked back like he had just stepped out of a high-end commercial.

He took one look at the room—scorch marks, poison vines, a shattered vase, and the faint smell of burnt wood—and his face immediately transformed into a mask of restrained horror.

"Excuse me," he began, adjusting his tie as if that would somehow fix the chaos.

"I’m Manager Zhao, and I believe there’s been... an incident?"

Gu Jin tried to act casual, crossing her arms nonchalantly as if she wasn’t standing in the middle of a miniature warzone.

"Incident? Oh, that. Just a small misunderstanding. Nothing to worry about."

She can’t tell the manager about the assassin’s attacks. What if he charged an extra cost for it?

He might say something like, ’You have attracted unwanted attention that might put our customer in danger, so you will have to pay extra...’

Apparently, Gu Jin was right, because Manager Zhao indeed had such power to do so.

Manager Zhao’s eyebrow twitched. "Small misunderstanding? Miss, there are holes in the ceiling."

Liang Bao jumped in, "But the chandelier’s still in one piece! I’d say that’s a win!"

Manager Zhao blinked, looking like he was trying to mentally calculate how much a destroyed chandelier would cost compared to the whole room.

He took out a small notebook and flipped to an empty page.

"Now, about the damages... let’s start with the scorch marks." He pointed to the ceiling, where black charred streaks crisscrossed like abstract art.

"That’s going to be quite costly to repair."

Lu Siyao, who had been lounging by the doorway, perked up,

"Hey please don’t forget to give us a discount."

Manager Zhao gave a professional smile but in his heart, he was saying two words, ’Dream on’

By the time Manager Zhao finished calculating, Gu Jin’s pocket was crying.

A bill of one million was handed to Gu Jin before Manager Zhao left with a smile.

Gu Jin gritted her teeth. If she someday met those shadow assassins, she would definitely loot them!

Once the door was closed Liang Bao, inspected that there was no microphone, and asked,

"Jin’er what had happened?"

Gu Jin sat on the edge of the bed, her face serious as she began to explain everything to Liang Bao and Lu Siyao.

Liang Bao and Lu Siyao’s faces changed with each word and by the end, their faces turned red from anger.

"What the f*ck? Who would want to kill you?"

"Is it Gu Aihan?" Liang Bao suspected.

Gu Jin shook her head,

"I don’t know."

"Did you see any mark or something like that?"

"No." Gu Jin shook her head. "But I do know their elements. Shadow, psychic, and wind."

Liang Bao frowned,

"This is not enough to identify them. There are many organizations whose Shadow Assassins have these elements."

Lu Siyao said with certainty,

"It definitely Gu Aihan. Now I am even more curious. What is she trying to hide."

Even Gu Jin started to be curious. No, to be precise, now Gu Jin truly wanted to discover the secret.

Gu Aihan didn’t know that she was getting blamed for something she never did and her plans were going to be spoiled because of it.

The saying ’If you often walk by the river, how can you not get your shoes wet?’ was true.[1]

Lu Siyao sighed,

"Jin’er I can understand your feelings, but next time, try to avoid breaking things and burning the room, alright?"

Gu Jin: "..." You can still think of money? Indeed you are my best friend.

Liang Bao’s forehead twitched with anger and she slapped Lu Siyao hard.

"Ouch! Bao’er if you slap so hard, my IQ will go down!" Lu Siyao shouted.

Liang Bao glared at her and said,

"Then let it go down, I want to see what is below negative."

Gu Jin pursued her lips tightly to not laugh.

She decided to laugh in secret later.

That night Liang Bao and Lu Siyao decided to stay with Gu Jin.

The next day, the trio set out for the orphanage.

With the help of Song Hancheng, they had already informed the orphanage owner about their arrival.

In the past 3 years, Gu Jin’s alchemy shop had only become famous, it had made some connections too.

Because of these connections, Gu Jin could directly talk with the orphanage director, without waiting.

The moment Gu Jin entered the orphanage, her head started to ache.

A few bad memories which she eventually forgot started to float in her mind.

Those people who bullied her, the taunts and the mocking all started to flock to her mind.

Liang Bao patted Gu Jin’s shoulder when she saw her frozen in one place.

"Jin’er?"

Gu Jin slowly regained her consciousness,

"Hm? Okay let’s go."

"Miss Gu?" A slightly high-pitched voice called.

When Gu Jin turned around she saw a middle-aged man. The man had a kind look on his face, his brown eyes were filled with warmth, and the gentle aura around him was enough to make anyone feel secure around him.

The name of the middle-aged man was Han Xiao.

Gu Jin clenched her fist when she saw the flattering expression on Han Xiao’s face.

This person...

He was one of the most dirtiest people in the the entire orphanage.

From trafficking children to doing drugs...

There was one more thing that made Gu Jin hate him.

He always invited big officials and offered them girls of below the age of 10.

Though he never let any of the big officials r*pe them, he allowed those big officials to molest those girls.

And unfortunately, Gu Jin, the real host, was one of them.

As compared to other girls Gu Jin, the real host, was very beautiful so Han Xiao used this as an advantage and always presented Gu Jin first.

When Gu Jin woke up, those suppressed memories didn’t properly integrate with her, however, in the past 3 years, she would occasionally recall those moments.

Sometimes she was filled with anger, but gradually she thought, she would get over it...until...until she saw Han Xiao with her own eyes.

The anger she thought had faded away, started to appear in her eyes.

Looking at Gu Jin’s beautiful red eyes and silky smooth black hair, Han Xiao suddenly remembered who Gu Jin was.

The most beautiful girl with the lowest talent in magic.

She was the golden egg of the orphanage.

Han Xiao’s heart skipped a beat.

In fact, when Gu Jin awakened Mana, he was filled with tension and decided to make Gu Jin stay in the orphanage anyhow.

Who would have thought that one of the noblemen from the Magic Association would take an interest in Gu Jin and take her away with him...

Han Xiao was filled with reluctance.

Now seeing the same girl who once he used for his personal gains, Han Xiao started to sweat.

He could easily recognize her since he was the one who had met and used her the most.

From the director, he got to know that one big shot was about to visit the orphanage.

The big shot had the net worth of billions of yuans.

The director even hinted that if he acted well and flattered the big shot properly, maybe the big shot would reward him with a million or two.

For Han Xiao million was a huge amount. His annual salary was 200,000 yuan.

So he hoped that he could get into the good books of the big shot.

But now...
