The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 233: Disadvantages
Chapter 233: Chapter 233: Disadvantages
While you can still control undead creatures, necromancers can also affect souls, and life forces, and even perform rituals related to resurrection or draining life energy. It’s far more versatile but also much more dangerous."
Gu Jin’s brows furrowed.
"So, necromancy can manipulate life energy too? Like draining the life force from living beings?"
"Yes, Master. Necromancers can siphon life energy from living creatures or transfer it between beings. This is part of what makes necromancy so powerful... and feared."
"Like....?"
"Like you can transfer the life force of a tree and transfer it to a human being."
Gu Jin frowned,
"How is this possible? Won’t it mean I can resurrect anyone?"
"You can. But only after reaching the Emperor Rank. This spell of transferring life force will be unlocked when you reach the Advanced Rank of your Necromancy element.
At first, you can only transfer bits of life force, like only 2 to 3% of a tree or a human. As the spell advances," Space continued, "you’ll be able to transfer larger amounts of life force."
Gu Jin waited for Space to tell the limitation.
Till now she understood one thing, every good thing has a bad side or condition.
Such a good thing as resurrection, can’t be allowed by heaven without a major disadvantage.
"But at the start, you won’t be able to control how much percentage of life force you can extract. At the advanced rank, you may not be able to extract more than 3%, but it is not necessary that you can extract exactly 3% of life force, sometimes it might be as low as 1% and sometimes it may be as high as 3%.
Indirectly you don’t have control over extraction. This could be a major disadvantage if you rank up. Once you reach Emperor Rank, you can extract up to 100% of life force, this means..."
Gu Jin completed the space’s words,
"This means I may unintentionally end up killing someone."
"Correct. Not only that, there are two more major disadvantages. You can only use this spell once a day at advanced rank, twice a day at Super rank, and vice versa.
However personally the major disadvantage I think is...Necromancy element may kill you."
"What?" Gu Jin was surprised.
She had never heard of an element killing any mage.
"Master, as you have read before through necromancy element you can raise the undead, communicate or manipulate or summon souls, as well as deal with life force...all of these aspects require you to tap into the forces of life and death," Space continued.
"This constant interaction with death takes a toll on the wielder. The stronger you become as a necromancer, the more the element pulls you toward death itself.
If you’re not careful, the line between life and death can blur, and the necromancer may end up losing their own life force in the process."
Gu Jin’s face hardened.
Truly her luck never...Uh! Forget it.
Now Gu Jin was so tired from having such bad luck that she gave up on cursing it.
She thought the element she had awakened was a powerful element and she was partially right about it, the element was indeed powerful...the only problem was...it had a major disadvantage!
At first, only some humans wanted to harm her, but now other than that damned mana in her mana space, she has awakened an enemy-like element.
Gu Jin felt that if her enemy knew she had awakened the necromancy element, they would simply leave her on an island filled with beasts, seal off her other elements, and wait for the necromancy element to completely kill her.
The space-sensing sadness hurriedly explained,
"Master, the Necromancy element is not as bad as you think."
"You are partially right." Gu Jin nodded her head in agreement. "It is not bad...it is worse!"
The space realized how much Gu Jin was upset and consoled her,
"Actually Necromancy element is very powerful. If you kill someone you can raise them as your soldier and slowly build up your army.
The most amazing thing about Necromancy is it doesn’t require much resources. Also as long as you have a herb named ’Soul Light’, you can avoid the side effect of necromancy element."
Gu Jin paused for a moment, intrigued. "Soul Light? What does it do?"
Space eagerly continued, sensing a spark of interest.
"Soul Light is a rare herb that specifically counters the draining effect of the necromancy element on the wielder’s life force.
It binds your soul more strongly to your body, making it harder for the necromancy element to pull you toward death. It can also stabilize your life force during high-risk necromantic rituals."
"So this herb will keep me alive while practicing necromancy?" Gu Jin asked, a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
"Yes, Master. As long as you have a steady supply of Soul Light, the risk of necromancy draining your life force will be significantly reduced."
Gu Jin took a deep breath, feeling slightly reassured.
"Where do I find this herb? I’m guessing it’s not growing in a regular marketplace."
That was how her luck was.
Whenever she has an alternative to save herself, it always comes with a ’but’
Space chuckled softly.
"No, Master. Soul Light only grows in places that have experienced intense life and death-energy. You can use your connections and ask them to keep an eye on any news regarding Soul Light herb.
As far as I know though...you won’t be able to buy it. It is...too rare and valuable. No one would sell it."
"Fine." Gu Jin sighed.
"Master there is one more thing."
"What now?" Gu Jin asked impatiently.
From the time-space opened its mouth, it has repeatedly told her bad news.
First the master rank beast core, then the disadvantages of Necromancy.
She suspected that today space wasn’t in the mood to give her good news.
"Master...you can’t let anyone know about your necromancy element."
"Why?" Gu Jin was confused.
"This element...will attract the attention of many institutes and military of the country and international special forces. It is kind of a banned element."
Gu Jin’s eyes widened in shock. "A banned element? Why would they ban necromancy?"
Space sighed softly before explaining.
"Master, necromancy is considered dangerous for a reason. It’s not just the fear of undead armies or resurrecting the dead.
The true concern is how easily necromancers can manipulate life and death.
Nations fear what they can’t control, and necromancers with enough power could destabilize entire regions, even entire countries. That’s why institutes and governments have outlawed its practice."
Gu Jin clenched her fists.
"So if anyone finds out about my necromancy, they’ll treat me like a criminal? They’ll hunt me down?"
"Yes, Master. They will see you as a threat to public safety and international security. Many forces, both local and global, will stop at nothing to capture or eliminate you.
And it won’t just be humans after you—other mages, even entire organizations, would seek to use you for their own gain."
"But why is even the military against it?" Gu Jin asked.
"Master you might not understand how powerful necromancers are. A single necromancer could create their own army that could rival an army of a nation." Space explained.
Gu Jin gritted her teeth.
As if her life wasn’t difficult enough already, now she had to hide this powerful but dangerous element from the world.
She felt as if someone had placed a bomb inside her. If she didn’t care it would explode and harm her, and if someone sensed its presence, she would declare a terrorist.
The space as if sensing Gu Jin’s pain consoled her,
"Master you can try to camouflage your element as an undead element."
Gu Jin nodded.
"By the way master, what would you like to awaken as your fifth element?" The space asked curiously.
"Fifth element?" Gu Jin was confused. "Wait! You mean I can awaken a fifth element now?"
"You didn’t know it, master?" The space asked in confusion.
Gu Jin shook her head.
She had broken through the advanced rank of her mutated plant element and fire element long ago.
When nothing happened after her breakthrough, Gu Jin thought maybe she wouldn’t awaken any element...but now...hearing the space’s words she felt it wasn’t the case...
"Master, listen to me if you want to avoid awakening some other strange or forbidden element, you should awaken an element quickly using some elemental stone!"
"Wait! So it means that the reason why awakened such a strange element was because I didn’t use an elemental stone when I had the chance?" Gu Jin finished, her voice tinged with frustration.
"Exactly, Master," Space confirmed.
"When you break through to a new rank without using an elemental stone, there’s a chance that you might awaken a random element."
"Great..." Gu Jin muttered.
At least she has the chance to awaken an element she wants now!
