Chapter 232: Chapter 232: The Fourth Element
The nurse’s face paled even more when she saw the blood backflowing into the IV tube. Her hands trembled as she rushed to remove the IV from Gu Jin’s arm.
The moment the needle was pulled out, Gu Jin felt an instant relief from the pressure, her eyes fixed on the nurse who was terrified.
"Thank you," Gu Jin said
Liang Bao, still panting from her frantic efforts, stood by the door,
"Jin, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know it was this bad. The staff here... they’re acting so strangely."
The nurse, still shaking, hastily cleaned the wound and applied a bandage to Gu Jin’s arm. Once she finished, she whispered under her breath,
"Please... don’t hurt me... I didn’t mean any harm... I was just following orders."
Gu Jin raised an eyebrow. "Orders? What orders?" she asked.
The nurse looked around nervously, glancing toward the door as if expecting someone to walk in at any moment.
"I... I’m not supposed to say anything. But..." She hesitated, glancing at Liang Bao, who stood defensively, ready to pounce at any threat.
"There’s been an order to ignore you."
"Who asked you to?" Gu Jin asked in a casual tone, her eyes turned cold though.
"The head doctor." The nurse blurted out. She felt if she lied, Gu Jin would kill her.
Gu Jin and Liang Bao exchanged glances and both understood who was behind all of this.
"Okay, you can leave. Please start my discharge process." Gu Jin requested.
"I...I can’t..." The nurse stammered.
Liang Bao was about to say something when Gu Jin signaled her to remain silent.
"Fine."
Once the nurse got Gu Jin’s permission, she left hurriedly as if a ghost was chasing behind her.
Liang Bao frowned,
"Jin’er why did you..."
"I am fine. I can heal myself. I didn’t need this IV drip in the first place. Who asked you to get me admitted to the hospital? Don’t we have healers?"
Hospitals were usually for commoners who couldn’t awaken any magic. After all the healers were quite expensive.
"Healing magic was ineffective on you so...anyways, I will complete your discharge process."
"Go ahead." Gu Jin nodded.
Soon Liang Bao completed the discharge process, called Lu Siyao, and asked her to stay at the inn.
On the way, she explained what had happened.
Lu Siyao was so angry that she almost hailed a cab to the hospital.
Gu Jin shook her head and let them talk.
She has two more important messages to look after.
"Space?"
"Yes, master." A baby-like voice answered.
Gu Jin was surprised and asked,
"Huh? Your voice..."
"Master I was upgraded."
"How did you upgrade?"
Space remained silent for a long while.
This made Gu Jin suspicious and she asked,
"Space are you hiding something from me?"
No response.
"Space? I want an answer!" Gu Jin pressurized.
"That...master...do you...do you remember...the...crystal core you obtained...after killing drakomagnus?"
Gu Jin had a bad feeling and asked,
"Are you talking about the crystal core for which we fought more than an hour and were so injured that we could hardly move? The crystal core which is worth more than 1 billion?"
"Y-Yes, that crystal core..." Space’s voice wavered, sensing Gu Jin’s growing displeasure.
Gu Jin’s eyes darkened. "What about it? And don’t tell me you—"
"Master, I had to absorb it to upgrade myself!" Space quickly blurted out, as if afraid Gu Jin would lash out.
For a moment, Gu Jin was utterly silent, her expression frozen in disbelief. She...no! They had spent so much time and effort to get their hands on that rare core.
Drakomagnus was an uncommon master-rank beast.
Even if they hunted some other master-rank beast later, those beasts weren’t as valuable as Drakomagnus!
"I... You..." Gu Jin struggled to find words. Her anger was bubbling up, but she forced herself to stay calm.
"Master, please don’t be angry! I didn’t do it on purpose! When you put the crystal core inside, a strange force compelled me to use the crystal core.
I tried my very best to resist the temptation and that voice but I couldn’t stop it. It felt like something ancient was calling out to me, and before I knew it, the core was absorbed!"
Gu Jin chuckled, though there was no warmth in her laughter.
"Wow! My dear Space felt something ancient was calling him out. So it swallowed an entire master-rank beast’s core worth more than 1 billion."
Space’s voice faltered. "Master, I didn’t want to... but the force was too strong! It wasn’t a conscious decision on my part."
Gu Jin shook her head, her temper cooling but still simmering beneath the surface.
"You think this is funny, don’t you? Do you realize how much effort went into obtaining that core? We nearly died."
"Master, I understand," Space whimpered.
"But the upgrade—it’s powerful. I can do more now. I can assist you in ways I couldn’t before."
"And what exactly can you do now?" Gu Jin asked, her tone sharp. "What makes this ’upgrade’ worth the cost of that core?"
Space hesitated for a moment, then answered,
"Master we can grow undead herbs too!"
Gu Jin was surprised.
"Really?"
Skeleton Herbs which she had acquired in the ruins of Ancient Magic World were undead herbs.
"Yes, master."
"But don’t undead herbs require thousands of skeletons to grow an undead plant?" Gu Jin asked in confusion.
However, the space was too excited and ignored Gu Jin’s answer,
"I can also speed the growth rate of the plants."
"I can do that too." Gu Jin interrupted. After all her plant element was mutated and gave her the power to speed up the growth of the plant.
"Other than that, a few more islands have been unlocked. You can also now create a space barrier." The space informed.
Gu Jin was stunned.
Out of all the features, she truly liked the first and the third features.
It was a major upgrade!
For a moment Gu Jin her aching heart eased slightly.
The pain of losing the Drakomagnus core remained, but the benefits of Space’s upgrade were undeniable.
The ability to grow undead herbs, especially the rare Skeleton Herbs, was an advantage she hadn’t expected.
The space barrier feature, was truly necessary, considering how lacking she was in terms of defense.
Once in the inn, Gu Jin showered and waited for Lu Siyao and Liang Bao to leave before entering the space.
She was planning to identify what element she had awakened.
"A book that explains what element is awakened when a purple or violet mana ball enters the mana space."
Gu Jin thought she wouldn’t receive any response, considering she didn’t know what element it was, but...
Whoosh.
A book with a dark purple color suddenly fell on her.
Gu Jin hurriedly opened the book to find out what was her fourth element.
She skimmed through sections until a Chapter heading caught her eye: "Necromancy."
Her fingers traced the text as she hurriedly read through the Chapter.
Necromancy: The Element of Life and Death.
"Necromancy is a rare and feared element. Those who wield it can control the boundary between the living and the dead.
Its powers are vast, ranging from raising the dead to manipulating souls, but it comes at a great cost. Few survive long enough to master it, as the pull of death itself can overpower the wielder."
Gu Jin frowned. "The pull of death...?"
She continued reading:
"Signs of awakening Necromancy include a purple or violet mana Unyi entering the wielder’s mana space or effect of the necromancy stone.
The element may allow for control over undead creatures, but it is also known to enhance certain dark plants, such as undead herbs, by using residual life energy.
Be warned: those who use this power must tread carefully. The stronger the necromancer, the stronger the pull toward death."
Gu Jin continued to read the book.
The more she read the more astonished she became.
Necromancy was a very strange element.
Unlike other elements where various spells were opened as the rank rose, the Necromancy element unlocks only one spell after each rank.
These spells upgrade with the rise in each rank. For example, the spell unlocked in primary rank will level up, when the mage reaches the Intermediate rank of the Necromancy element.
Gu Jin suddenly thought of the Undead element. Its feature matches the Necromancy element a lot.
Undead Element was a very common element in Egypt.
Are they both the same?
"Space, do you know the difference between necromancy and undead element?"
"Yes, master," Space responded.
"The undead element is purely focused on raising and controlling undead creatures. It allows the user to summon skeletons, zombies, and other reanimated beings.
The stronger the element, the more powerful and numerous the summons become."
Gu Jin nodded, listening intently.
"However," Space continued,
"Necromancy goes beyond just raising undead. It involves manipulating the very forces of life and death."
