Chapter 227: The Gloves
Chapter 227: Chapter 227: The Gloves
It was imbued with a strange, sinister energy that slowly began to seep into their bodies, sapping their strength and making their movements sluggish.
Jin Mu was the first person to notice and asked them to enter the ruins.
But to their bad luck, the moment they ran towards the ruin, they triggered some mechanism and ended up falling into a dungeon-like place.
For an entire day, all three of them faced many challenges.
By the time they reached the last room, all three were bruised, battered, and exhausted. Their clothes were torn, and Gu Jin’s arm was bleeding from a trap they had barely managed to avoid.
"Look," Jin Mu whispered, pointing toward the far end of the room.
An altar stood at the center of the room, illuminated by a faint glow.
It was the only source of light in the chamber, casting an ethereal sheen over the strange symbols carved into the stone walls.
On the altar was a transparent box, and inside the box rested a pair of gloves that seemed to pulse with a soft light.
Gu Jin felt her heart skip a beat as her gaze fell on the gloves. There was something about them—something captivating, almost hypnotic.
The longer she stared at them, the more she felt an overwhelming pull, as though the gloves were calling to her, beckoning her forward.
Hence she started to walk towards it.
Jin Mu and Nan Roushi were stunned and asked,
"Gu Jin do you know what the gloves are?"
"I don’t." Gu Jin subconsciously replied.
"Then do you know what you will face if you walk toward the altar? Hey! Gu Jin! Stop walking!" Jin Mu said.
However, Gu Jin didn’t answer and continued to walk towards the altar.
It was as if she couldn’t hear anything.
All of her senses were blocked and all she could see was the pair of gloves.
"Is she hypnotized?" Nan Roushi guessed.
Jin Mu’s face turned pale and she hurriedly called her out,
"Gu Jin, wait. We don’t know what those are. Don’t get too close."
But Gu Jin barely heard her.
"Gu Jin, stop!" Nan Roushi shouted, grabbing her arm. "This isn’t right. Something’s wrong with you!"
Gu Jin turned to him, her eyes glazed over with a strange intensity. Without a word, she raised her hand, summoning the power of her plant element.
Vines erupted from the ground beneath them, wrapping around Nan Roushi’s legs and flinging him backward with surprising force.
He crashed into the wall with a grunt of pain, unable to free himself from the vines that now held him in place.
Jin Mu’s eyes widened in shock as she watched her friend’s actions. "Gu Jin, what are you doing? Snap out of it!"
But Gu Jin ignored her. Her mind was clouded with a singular focus: the gloves. Nothing else mattered.
Jin Mu tried to rush forward to stop her, but Gu Jin raised her hand again, and thick tendrils of vines shot out, entangling Jin Mu as well.
The vines wrapped tightly around her body, pinning her arms to her sides and preventing her from moving.
"Gu Jin, please stop!" Jin Mu shouted, struggling against the restraints.
But Gu Jin didn’t listen. She stood before the transparent box.
Without hesitation, Gu Jin slammed her fist into the box, shattering the glass in one swift motion.
The shards flew through the air, cutting into her skin and sending droplets of blood splattering across the stone floor. But Gu Jin didn’t flinch. She barely registered the pain.
All that mattered was the gloves.
She reached into the box, her fingers closing around the smooth, leather surface of the gloves.
Jin Mu and Nan Roushi, still struggling against the vines, watched in horror as Gu Jin slipped the gloves onto her hands.
The eerie light that had surrounded them intensified, and for a moment, the entire room was bathed in a blinding glow.
When the light faded, Gu Jin stood before them, her face was blank.
Only Gu Jin knew what had happened at the time.
As soon as she slipped the gloves on her hand, a few strange scenes flashed before her eyes. Before she could understand them, she felt the energy draining her body and slowly her vision turned blurry.
"Gu Jin..." Jin Mu’s voice was weak, but her plea was filled with desperation.
"Please... come back to us. Whatever those gloves are, they’re not worth losing yourself over."
"I’m fine," Gu Jin said softly, her voice tinged with calmness. "I just... I need these."
Nan Roushi, still pinned by the vines, struggled to speak.
"Gu Jin, those gloves—there’s something wrong with them."
"Nothing is wrong with them." Gu Jin declined.
"If they are not dangerous then put them away!" Jin Mu wasn’t convinced.
Gu Jin narrowed her eyes and slowly took out the gloves.
Jin Mu and Nan Roushi were surprised by Gu Jin’s calm reaction.
Were they mistaken?
However before they could think any further, Gu Jin’s calm voice echoed in the room.
"The portal has opened."
"Huh?" Jin Mu and Nan Roushi were surprised by Gu Jin’s sudden words.
"Are you telling the truth? Wait! How do you know the portal has opened?"
"I can sense it." Gu Jin explained. She looked at the ceiling and used plant vines to make a hole in the ceiling.
"Jin! What are you doing?" Jin Mu asked. She could see Gu Jin’s face turning pale.
"There is a way to leave this dungeon. We can leave as long as we can make a hole."
"How do you know-"
Gu Jin ignored their words and continued with her work.
Jin Mu tried to break free again, but a loud crack resounded through the chamber. The vines had pierced the ceiling, creating a small opening through which light poured in. Dust and rubble cascaded down, filling the air with a cloud of debris.
"There," Gu Jin said softly, her voice barely audible over the commotion. "We’re leaving."
Before either of her companions could respond, Gu Jin summoned more vines to lift herself toward the opening, she also took them with her.
She ascended swiftly, her slender frame slipping through the hole she had created.
Once outside, Jin Mu and Nan Roushi saw a portal at some distance from them.
"There is indeed a portal! The portal has been opened!" Nan Roushi was filled with happiness.
Jin Mu, however, looked at Gu Jin and asked,
"Jin why are you looking so pale? Show me your hand."
Gu Jin like an obedient child, stretched her hand.
Jin Mu whose hand was no longer restrained, placed at Gu Jin’s wrist.
After a few seconds, her expression turned grave and she said,
"Jin’er you are poisoned!"
"Poisoned?" Gu Jin muttered as if she was unfamiliar with the word.
"Yes. I don’t know what type of poison it is, but I am sure, it is a dangerous poison..." Jin Mu’s face had a grave expression,
"Guys, let’s talk about it later. We should first leave this damn place." Nan Roushi interuppted them.
Jin Mu gritted her teeth and nodded.
All three of them started to run toward the portal, however, the portal was too far from them.
Just when they reached the portal, two Skelly appeared out of nowhere.
"Sh*t!" Nan Roushi cursed.
"What to do? If we fight them, we won’t be able to leave!" Jin Mu said worriedly.
"You both leave, I will deal with them." Gu Jin said.
"No! Jin, you’re in no condition to fight!" Jin Mu exclaimed, her voice edged with panic. She gripped Gu Jin’s arm, pulling her back slightly.
"You’ve been poisoned, and you’re already weakened. Let us handle this."
Nan Roushi nodded, positioning himself between the skeletal creatures and Gu Jin.
"She’s right, Gu Jin. You can’t fight in this state. We’ll handle the Skelly. You just need to conserve your strength and make it to the portal."
But Gu Jin’s eyes hardened, and she shrugged Jin Mu off.
"No. You both leave. I will handle it."
"Jin, this not the time to..."
However before both of them could further argue, Gu Jin wrapped her plant vines around them and threw them toward the portal.
As a result, Jin Mu and Nan Roushi were the first ones to reach back into the magic world.
However, only Gu Jin knew that the moment both of them left, a strange energy overtook her.
The Skelly which was very difficult for her to deal with, was killed by her in just 2 seconds.
She collected their cores calmly and jumped into the portal.
Only after arriving on the other side of the portal, did Gu Jin realize how grave condition her body was in.
"Jin’er, next time don’t you dare get yourself in trouble because of me!" Lu Siyao cried.
"Hm.."
"My god, how liver-touching performance is this." A sarcastic voice interrupted the trio’s conversation.
When all three of them turned toward the voice, their face changed
