The Mighty Mage
Chapter 226: Protector?

Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Protector?

But every time I see you, I’m reminded of what I could wish for but never get..."

"Maybe someday," he whispered, his voice barely audible, "you’ll love me again. Maybe in another life, things will be different. But for now... this is enough. These moments are enough."

He gently released her pinky finger, brushing his hand lightly against her cheek one last time.

His gaze lingered on her peaceful face, committing every detail to memory before he stood up.

"Time to go...your friends are going to arrive here soon...Take care."

Whoosh.

Just as the young man’s figure disappeared,

....

A few hours ago.

"She’s close," Lu Siyao whispered, her voice trembling with hope.

Professor Jiang, who had been preparing to explain his own plan, looked at the two women with a serious expression.

"If she’s already here, then we need to find her immediately. She could be in danger, or worse."

Liang Bao nodded in agreement, already moving toward the direction where the talismans seemed to be pulling them.

"We need to move quickly. If she’s hurt, every second counts."

Without another word, the group hurried off, following the faint trail of energy that the talismans were emitting.

The black-cloaked man hiding in the bushes heard their conversation and hurriedly followed them. He also followed behind them.

Along the way, they encountered many beasts.

This was the reason why it took them so long to reach Gu Jin’s location.

However before they could reach the location, they were attacked by a master level beast. The black-cloaked man easily surpassed them looked around for a while and spotted Gu Jin.

A guardless girl lying in an open tent, breathing slowly as if even breathing had become a laborious task for her.

When the black-cloaked man saw the black hair and pale skin of Gu Jin, he took out a knife from his side pouch.

He had a feeling was Gu Jin was indeed the daughter of the Gu family and should be killed right away.

Without wasting any more time, he went straight ahead.

However, he was stopped by an unknown force before he could enter the tent.

"Damn it!"

The black-cloaked man hurriedly took out a bomb, lit it, and threw it on Gu Jin’s tents.

He would never let someone like Gu Jin live!

As the black-cloaked man threw the bomb toward the tent, a faint blue light suddenly materialized, surrounding the entire area.

The moment the bomb hit the barrier, it disintegrated, causing only a puff of smoke and a few sparks to fly through the air.

"Impossible!" the black-cloaked man cursed, his eyes widening with disbelief.

He stepped back in frustration, realizing he was no match for the unseen force that protected Gu Jin.

What kind of destiny does this girl named Gu Jin have, because of which it was becoming difficult for him to kill her?

Just then, the bushes rustled nearby.

The black-cloaked man knew it was Gu Jin’s friend and could only leave. He can’t let them discover him!

He used a wind attack to blow Gu Jin away, however, except for the jacket, nothing blew away.

The black-cloaked man was irritated, but suddenly an idea appeared in his mind.

Lu Siyao, Liang Bao, and the rest of the group emerged from the shadows, their eyes locked on the tent where Gu Jin lay. They could sense something was wrong.

"Gu Jin!" Lu Siyao cried, rushing toward the tent without hesitation. Liang Bao followed closely behind, her talisman glowing brighter as they approached.

By now the black-cloaked man had disappeared.

"Jin’er!" Lu Siyao hugged Gu Jin. Surprisingly the barrier didn’t stop Lu Siyao and others.

Liang Bao took Gu Jin’s pulse and said calmly,

"She has been healed."

"Healed? How?" Jin Mu asked in surprise.

Liang Bao stared at Jin Mu and asked,

"Why? Why are you sounding so surprised?"

She even started to suspect whether Jin Mu had secretly attacked Gu Jin.

Jin Mu understood that her words sounded suspicious and explained,

"She was poisoned. Even after long a time, I wasn’t able to determine what the poison was. Hence I am surprised."

"How did she appear in a tent?" Pei Ke asked.

Lu Siyao and Liang Bao exchanged glances.

It has become a common thing for them.

Whenever Gu Jin gets separated from them or is in danger, she miraculously appears in a safe place with all her wounds bandaged, in an unconscious state.

Even she wouldn’t know how she ended up like that.

Lu Siyao and Liang Bao thought it was because of some magical artifact Gu Jin had.

However to cover it up, Lu Siyao said hurriedly,

"The tent must have been set up by someone who found her before us," Lu Siyao quickly said, trying to brush off the suspicion in her voice.

"Maybe a passerby or someone from the forest helped her. Gu Jin always attracts strange circumstances."

Liang Bao continued,

"The most important thing is to take her away."

"Yes."

"Hey, what is that jacket over there?" Jin Mu asked.

"Maybe that belongs to the person who rescued Jin’er?" Lu Siyao answered.

Now she was shocked. Maybe Gu Jin was truly saved by some passerby.

The group began packing up, carefully lifting Gu Jin onto a makeshift stretcher.

Her unconscious form remained peaceful, and even though her wounds had been bandaged, the exhaustion on her face was clear.

As they worked, Lu Siyao couldn’t help but glance around nervously, feeling like they were being watched.

Once they were ready, they set off into the dense forest, retracing their steps back to the safe zone.

As they continued walking, Liang Bao couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that something was off. She kept glancing at Gu Jin, the questions circling her mind.

"Could it be possible that Gu Jin has a protector? Someone we don’t know about?"

Lu Siyao stayed silent, unsure of how to answer. Deep down, she had her own suspicions, but she didn’t want to voice them. Not yet.

Hours passed as they traversed through the forest, the moonlight dimly lighting their path.

When Gu Jin opened her eyes, she found herself in a hospital room.

"Jin’er? Thank god you are finally awake! I was so worried about you!" Lu Siyao exclaimed, rushing to Gu Jin’s bedside.

Her eyes were filled with relief, though there was still a hint of concern.

Gu Jin blinked, her vision slightly blurry as she tried to make sense of her surroundings.

"Where am I?" she whispered, her voice hoarse.

"You’re in the hospital," Liang Bao answered from the other side of the room.

"We found you in the forest. You were poisoned, but somehow... you were healed before we arrived."

Gu Jin frowned, trying to recall what had happened. The last thing she remembered was being alone in the tent, her body too weak to move.

"I don’t remember much," Gu Jin admitted, her hand instinctively moving to her chest.

However in her heart, she muttered,

’There was someone... I think someone was with me.’

Usually, she wouldn’t feel but...this time she felt.

When she fell back into the portal, she felt she would die for sure, however, to her surprise she felt a familiar hand wrapping on her waist...

A comforting feeling slowly enveloped her.

Then as if a link was connected, she could sense all of the emotions of the person who saved her.

Strangely...she could feel her heart aching even though she was unconscious.

Gu Jin couldn’t stop thinking about that person.

For the first time after starting to like Long Yifan, she started thinking about another man.

Who was he?

And why was she feeling all the emotions he had?

Why was he sad?

"Did someone rescue me?" Gu Jin asked, even though she didn’t have much hope.

"From the looks of it yes." Liang Bao said and passed her a jacket, "This was found near your tent."

Gu Jin held the jacket and a familiar but unfamiliar feeling welled in her heart.

The smell was different from what she remembered...

"Are you sure this was the jacket you found?" Gu Jin asked.

"Yes." Liang Bao nodded.

"By the way Jin’er, why were you so injured? According to Jin Mu, you were doing well until day 3, but after that...she is not ready to tell anything." Lu Siyao asked.

Gu Jin closed her eyes and reminisced about the day things started to turn dangerous.

Until day 3, Gu Jin, Jin Mu, and Nan Roushi roamed at the perimeter and didn’t dare to enter the ruins.

They thought as long as they stayed away from danger they would remain safe.

However, their illusion was broken on the third day when it started to rain. At first, the rain was light, almost refreshing, but as the hours passed, it turned into a torrential downpour.

The group sought shelter under a large rock formation, but even that wasn’t enough to keep them dry.

What they didn’t realize was that the rain wasn’t ordinary.
