Chapter 228: Confrontation & Choice

Chapter 228: Chapter 228: Confrontation & Choice

Disgust appeared on Lu Siyao and Liang Bao’s faces while Gu Jin stared intently.

At the entrance of the hospital room, Gu Aihan and Nan Bei stood, arms crossed as they surveyed the scene.

"What are you doing here?" Lu Siyao spat, her voice dripping with venom. "Haven’t you caused enough trouble already?"

"Trouble?" Gu Jin was confused by Lu Siyao’s words.

Liang Bao lowered her head and explained to Gu Jin,

"Jin’er she had called the police on us."

"Why?" Gu Jin was baffled.

"Because she thinks that you manipulated with the energy of the portal. She wants you to apologize and write a letter that you never come near her ever again." Liang Bao explained the situation.

"Who?" Gu Jin asked.

She knew Gu Aihan. She was the beloved fiance of Long Yifan. The person she was jealous of...

However, according to the news Gu Aihan was a gentle person, who hardly ever involved herself in worldly matters.

Just like an immortal goddess.

"That gentle-looking woman. Her name is..."

"Gu Aihan." Gu Jin said lightly.

Gu Aihan’s gaze met with Gu Jin’s and for a moment the atmosphere in the hospital room turned cold.

Gu Jin can sense Gu Aihan’s hostility which is baffling for her.

Suddenly she remembered the attack that had happened to her 3 years ago and felt that maybe Gu Aihan was so hostile to her because of her previous actions.

Gu Aihan on the other hand, had completely different thoughts

She felt her vision turning blurry when she saw Gu Jin.

Gu Jin looked exactly like the late Grandma Gu! Earlier Gu Jin’s eyes weren’t open and she didn’t know about her eye color. But now...now that she knows her eye’s colors, her hands turned cold.

If earlier she was suspicious whether Gu Jin was truly the daughter of the Gu Family or not, now she was sure.

Gu Jin was indeed the daughter of the Gu Family!

For a moment Gu Aihan wanted to act like a crazy person and kill Gu Jin right away.

Anyways she can act cute and get away with it because of her brother.

"You want to kill me." Gu Jin’s words were sharp and directed at Gu Aihan.

Gu Aihan was stunned by Gu Jin’s sharp instinct and hurriedly lowered her head. She acted as if she was scared by Gu Jin’s words, but the words that came out of her mouth were even completely different,

"Miss Gu I never thought that on our first meeting, you would throw such a strange accusation on me. Why would I want to kill you? We’ve barely met." Gu Aihan’s voice was soft, almost melodious, as she lowered her gaze, feigning innocence.

"You can hide behind that facade all you want, but I know what I felt." Gu Jin said calmly.

She was very sensitive to killing intent.

Gu Aihan slowly lifted her gaze,

"Miss Jin, whether I want to kill you or not is just an assumption of your own. What I truly want to know is why Miss Jin manipulated the portal’s energy. Do you know how much effort I pull in?

I need a valid answer. Please don’t hide behind the excuses that you didn’t and you don’t know.

If don’t give me a valid answer, then never step in the capital city anymore."

Gu Jin chuckled,

"Oh? Miss Gu, do you think you can pressure me into giving you the answer you are wishing for?"

How can Gu Jin who has lived among the old foxes since her birth, not understand the hidden meaning behind Gu Aihan’s words?

Gu Aihan clenched her fist, however, her face was calm,

"Miss Jin..."

"My surname is Gu." Gu Jin interrupted her.

Nan Bei rolled her eyes,

"How can an orphan like you deserve to have the same surname as our goddess?"

Gu Aihan patted Nan Bei’s shoulder, and chided her in a gentle voice,

"Nan Bei! Don’t talk with Miss Jin like that. Miss Jin, I apologize on behalf of Nan Bei. She is just straightforward and doesn’t know how to hide her emotions like others."

Gu Jin laughed.

"Miss Gu, please get your facts straight. Stop acting like a hypocrite. If you are scolding your friend for being mannerless then you calling me Miss Jin even though I asked you to call me by my name, is a mannerless act too.

Also being rude can’t be called as straightforward. And hiding one’s emotion is very important, if you make it sound like a dirty deed, then stop hiding yours too."

Gu Aihan’s serene expression faltered for a moment as Gu Jin’s words struck a chord.

Her eyes narrowed slightly, but she quickly regained her composure, her voice still soft and calm.

"Miss Jin, I see you’re quite skilled at twisting words, but there’s no need for us to become enemies."

Gu Jin smiled coolly.

"Enemies? You’re the one who came here throwing accusations and setting conditions. I’m just defending myself."

Nan Bei, still visibly irritated, cut in.

"We’re not here to argue about manners. We need answers, and we need them now. If you don’t—"

Gu Jin raised her hand, silencing Nan Bei effortlessly.

"Enough. I don’t owe either of you anything. Whatever happened with the portal was beyond my control, and I have no reason to manipulate anything. If you want someone to blame, go search elsewhere."

Gu Aihan stepped forward,

"If you aren’t going to give me an answer, you will have to apologize."

"You need to tell me about my mistake before I can decide whether I should apologize or not." Gu Jin looked away.

"Miss Jin, you may not understand the gravity of this situation. The portal instability is dangerous, and we can’t afford any more risks. I only want to prevent any future accidents."

Gu Jin’s expression hardened.

"You speak of preventing accidents, but you’ve done nothing but create chaos since you arrived. What exactly are you trying to achieve?"

Nan Bei’s temper flared and she shouted,

"Do you know who she is?"

"I know."

The little princess of the Gu family, Long Yifan’s beloved fiance, goddess of many wealthy young masters of the Capital, and the most talented woman in alchemy and magic.

"Yet you are trying to lie in front of her?" Nan Bei asked aggressively.

Gu Jin shook her head, laid back on her bed, and said calmly,

"If you want to spout more nonsense then step out. I am not in the mood to have a conversation with you."

Nan Bei gritted her teeth, turned to Gu Aihan, and said,

"Aihan, you should stand up for yourself! She’s insulting you!" Nan Bei’s voice rose, her frustration clear.

"Enough, Bei’er. Miss Jin isn’t worth losing our composure over." Gu Aihan patted her on the back.

"Oh, so now she is not worth it? Weren’t you the one who started this confrontation?" Lu Siyao taunted.

A slight smirk tugged at Gu Aihan’s lips, but her expression quickly returned to its practiced calm.

"Miss Jin, let’s not drag this out any further. I’ve been patient, but my patience has its limits.

You may think you’re clever, but we both know there are things you’re hiding. I’ll give you one last chance: apologize for what happened with the portal, and we can move on."

"I will too repeat myself the last time. I wasn’t the one who manipulated the energy. do whatever you want." Gu Jin said calmly.

"Miss Jin, apologize right now or promise me that you will never return to the capital ever again." Gu Aihan insisted.

"And what if I don’t?"

Nan Bei, unable to hold back, jumped in. "Then you’ll regret it! We have connections far beyond what you could imagine."

"Nan Bei." Gu Aihan’s voice was gentle but firm, a reminder to hold her tongue.

"Miss Gu, this is your final warning. Refuse to cooperate, and I won’t be responsible for what happens next."

Gu Jin chuckled softly, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, how terrifying. Is that supposed to scare me?"

A flicker of annoyance crossed Gu Aihan’s face, but she quickly suppressed it. "Very well. Since you’ve made your choice, I have no reason to remain here any longer."

She signaled Nan Bei to follow her and left.

Nan Bei’s eyes gleamed with delight.

"Just wait! You are done for!" She said and followed gu Aihan.

"I am having a bad feeling." Liang Bao admitted.

Lu Siyao bit her lips and asked,

"I am confused. Does she genuinely think that Jin’er is at fault? Is there a misunderstanding or something?"

Gu Jin turned her gaze to the entrance and said calmly,

"No. She wanted me to accept the fact that I was the one who messed with the portal’s energy so that she could punish me and never let me enter the capital city, this was an indirect way of keeping me away from the capital city.

Then she gave the second option, which was also...staying away from the capital city."
