Chapter 64: A female spy.

Elliana held the corner of the cliff right in time and hung from it.

She looked down at the rocks that dissolved in the water immediately, and her heart trembled.

She didn’t need to be told twice that there is no way she would live another minute if she fell into that life-taking lava.

"Yaretzi, please help me," Elliana groaned, and the witch walked to her, looking down at her with irritation written over her face.

"That’s why I told you not to touch anything without permission, didn’t I? Now keep hanging there until I go through all the rules," Yaretzi said, and Elliana looked down before puckering her lips.

Her feet were uncomfortable. It almost looked like someone was blowing hot air onto them and hot tears welled in her eyes.

Why was this witch bullying her? Wasn’t she supposed to help her? Was it Elliana’s fault that she didn’t complete her command? She could’ve just said to not touch anything. Why did she go into detail? Elliana felt wronged.

"Woohooo, I don’t want the training from you. You are so mean. You are the one who brought me here and introduced me to all those things, and now you are leaving me like this,"

Yaretzi’s eyes widened when Elliana started crying.

How can a girl start crying so easily? Was she pretending? She wasn’t a kid, for god’s sake!

"Woohoo, you are bullying me too. Just because you have the powers, you are bullying the weak. How can you leave me like this? What if my hands slip and I fall in that lava? I haven’t even had my first real kiss with my husband. Woohooo, I will die just like that. After all the suffering for a happy life, I will die burning in the lava of hell," Elliana cried.

Yaretzi noticed that the girl was indeed crying for real and clicked her fingers.

Elliana’s hand slipped from the cliff, and she screamed in horror.

"Aaaaaa!" Elliana closed her eyes, ready to feel the pain. Her body felt like she was falling into the abyss of nothingness.

A few seconds passed, but her skin didn’t feel any burning sensations, and she opened her eyes.

However, as soon as she did that, she fell on something hard and she winced in pain.

"What the hell?" Elliana groaned before looking around in amazement

She wasn’t in that freaking place where she had accidentally gone by pressing that button. She was back in the forest.

She was back, but not near that cave. She was near the pond, which was her favorite place.

"Yaretzi?" She looked around, confused.

Where is that lady? Did she really leave because Elliana said she didn’t want to get trained by her? Did she leave in anger? Or is it because she pressed that button that she wasn’t supposed to?

Elliana pursed her lips.

"Elliana?" She heard a voice, and she turned around, confused.

"Dexter?" Elliana asked, surprised.

"What are you doing here?" Dexter asked, and Elliana looked around, relaxed that the lady was indeed nowhere to be seen. It had become hard to explain to a vampire what she was doing with a witch that she doesn’t even know about.

"I can ask you the same question. What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be like, near your place?" Elliana asked, and Dexter narrowed his eyes before looking around.

He doesn’t know if this was just his assumption, but Elliana looked more nervous than surprised. It was as if she was afraid of being caught.

But what would she be doing here? And what could she get caught with? There was no one here. Even with the vampire senses, he could see there was no one around in at least a 500 m parameter.

However, now that he expanded his senses, he could see there was a vampire female here a few seconds ago. He could feel the remnants of her presence.

What would a female vampire be doing here? And why would she run away as soon as he came? There is no way she walked so fast. So the only plausible reason is that she ran away.

Not many vampires have that kind of capacity to run like this. Most of the lower vampires with those powers are either soldiers or spies and -

Was she spying on Elliana? Dexter looked at the human in front of him. But why would a female vampire spy on Elliana? A human? Until Elliana belongs to an important family in the human kingdom.

Dexter kept looking at Elliana, and the latter looked back at him, confused.

He sighed.

Maybe this girl just wanted to be alone, and that’s why she walked here. It shouldn’t surprise him knowing all too well how much she likes to be alone all the time.

Old habits die hard, no?

He shook his head and stepped closer to her before raising her hands.

Elliana narrowed her eyes and clenched her fingers, unsure of what he wanted to do.

Dexter looked at her uneasy expression and smiled at her.

"You have a leaf on your head," Dexter said before removing it and showing her.

"Thanks," Elliana smiled awkwardly.

"I thought I established some of your trust when we met last time, but it looks like it’s still a long way," Dexter commented.

"It’s not that. I am just caught off-guard. I didn’t expect to see you here, and you still haven’t answered my previous question. It makes me wonder if you are spying on me," Elliana said to cover up her situation.

"Lately, I have this feeling that someone is following me all the time. That incident with the boys who came out of nowhere to bully me is still fresh in my mind," Elliana explained, and Dexter nodded in understanding, his expression immediately easing.

He looked at the girl, who looked like she had no idea about what was going on around her and sighed.

It looks like his earlier assumption about someone spying on her was indeed right.

Even Elliana feels someone is watching her, but she doesn’t know who.

How is she supposed to know? It’s a female vampire and a very skilled one at that. Even he couldn’t catch a whiff of that spy. How can he expect a mere human to do it?

Even earlier, when they were talking about bullying, she had mentioned that someone might have arranged for those boys to hurt her or there was no way those humans would come for her when she didn’t even know any of them.

"I get it. I am sorry for misunderstanding you," Dexter said, and Elliana nodded.

"And to answer your question, I was actually here to look around the University so that I could get admitted into it.

I told my dad that I wanted to study at this one because I have a friend here, and he was ecstatic to know that. Maybe it was because this was the first time I said something about having a friend," Dexter’s words made Elliana pause and look at him.

"You are coming to study here? Is it because of me?" Elliana asked, and Dexter smiled at her.

"If not you then who, Dumbo? I was actually meaning to surprise you at the fresher’s party, but who would’ve thought that I’ll meet you like this? I was roaming around the forest because I remembered you saying the lake was your favorite spot when I heard your scream," Dexter paused and turned to her.

"Do you have any idea how worried I was? What were you doing here all alone after everything happened? Do you really have no sense of security for yourself?" Dexter asked, and Elliana looked down like a kid getting a good scolding after doing something she wasn’t supposed to do.

Dexter looked at the girl from the corner of his eyes and sighed.

"It’s okay. Now that I am here, I am not going to leave your side. Wherever you go, I will come with you. I am even on the same course as you. Life would be more interesting with you in it," Dexter said, and Elliana looked at him.

Dexter’s eyes held an emotion that she hasn’t seen in anybody’s eyes for herself for a long time, and her eyes softened.

"Dexter, I know what you feel for me. You consider me a good friend, and I want to be a good friend to you too. There is no doubt about it. But I hope you don’t grow expectations of anything further because -" Elliana couldn’t complete her words as they exited the forest, and she was immediately cornered by Melony.

"Girl, where the hell were you? I have been searching for you all around. And then the council’s head’s son Alcinder said you might be here," Melony linked her hands with Elliana before her gaze fell on Dexter.

She kept looking at the man in front of him with narrowed eyes before her eyes widened. The man in front of her didn’t only look like the minister’s son. It was him! She could feel the dangerous vibes oozing from him.

What the hell was he doing here? And why were Elliana and he coming together out of the forest? Had she gone there to meet him? The last time everyone had seen Dexter dropping Elliana at the university.

Does that mean they are a thing? Is something going on between them? Melony’s eyes were wide and her mind was full of questions.

First, it was Daniel, then it was Alcinder, and now Dexter too? Just how many vampires were behind this girl?

Melony looked at Elliana, who was looking back at her innocently, and then pouted her lips.

"You poor innocent thing. Come here. You don’t need to be a part of this messed-up tyranny. They will deal with this among themselves," Melony practically took Elliana away from Dexter, leaving him speechless, and Elliana, who didn’t know what was going around, shrugged and kept walking.
