Chapter 60: Invitation to a trip
"You dance really well. Are you a professional?" Elliana asked Alcinder as soon as they sat on the chair, and Alcinder looked into her happy eyes before shaking his head.
"It’s a protocol. The council head’s son should be excellent in each and every thing. Plus, it comes in handy during all the balls, and parties that I have to attend because I am probably some big shot in their eyes when I haven’t taken the position," Alcinder said.
"Well, isn’t it great? To know and Excel in everything? I can only be proud of myself in a few things," Elliana sighed dreamily.
"And is one of them acting cute to win people’s favor?" Alcinder mused.
"No. It’s sword fighting," Elliana smirked at Alcinder, and he was visibly surprised.
He had expected her to say bike racing, but this was something entirely new and unexpected.
"You know sword fighting?" Alcinder supported his head on his palm and leaned forward to look into her eyes to see if she was bluffing or serious.
"Hmm... I used to do it in my past times," Elliana rolled her sleeves slightly and turned her hand towards Alcinder.
"I got this cut mark because of it. It was a pretty deep wound when I was learning and like other wounds, it didn’t heal completely and left a small mark," Elliana showed Alcinder her wound, and Alcinder grabbed her hand, rubbing the mark with his thumb softly.
He could see the kind of mark it was and his brows knitted.
"It must’ve hurt a lot,"
"Not more than feeling helpless under your tormenters," Elliana scoffed before coughing to hide her slip-up
Alcinder heard her pretty clearly but didn’t say anything.
"If you are so good at sword fighting, why don’t you show me your skills?" Alcinder smirked at her.
He looked at Elliana, waiting for her answer, but out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Samantha walking to them.
Well, he was indeed wondering how his day was going without any drama.
He immediately straightened up, not wanting any other Mello drama, and Melony, who was watching just this particular table, patted Arohi’s hand.
"Girl! This is going to be a blast. What do you think Samantha would do now?" Melony’s words made Arohi look at Elliana, and Alcinder, and the latter rolled her eyes.
"I still don’t understand why this should bother us," Arohi said, but now that Melony made her watch, even she was interested in knowing what kind of reaction Samantha would give.
Elliana felt someone’s stare, and she turned to her left, but she didn’t find anyone and scrunched her brows in confusion.
Who could it be? It was as if someone was observing her. This feeling has been going on -
"Elliana," Samantha’s voice void of any emotions brought Elliana’s attention to her, and Elliana turned to look at Samantha.
"What is it, princess?" Elliana asked with a soft smile, and Samantha sat in front of her before holding her hands.
Elliana looked at their joint hands and raised her brows.
"You have the face of someone who wants something from me. Is that the case?" Elliana looked at her, and Samantha hummed.
"I am organizing a trip to the Berlona Islands. It will be three days and 2 nights trip. We will leave after the fresher’s party. Would you like to come?" Though Samantha’s voice was void of any emotions, Elliana noticed the hope in her eyes, and she chuckled awkwardly.
She could’ve answered Samantha straight away if it was in her hands. She wasn’t an independent woman who was living alone. Elliana was the youngest prince’s wife, and his permission was important to her.
"Why are you thinking so much? Are you upset about my behavior earlier? Or has Alcinder filled your ears with something unnecessarily against me?" Samantha’s voice was hushed.
No one was able to hear her, but the scowl on her face, while she was talking to Elliana was visible, and Elliana’s discomfort was too.
"Are there girls really fighting?"
"I don’t know. From the look of it, things appear like that only,"
"Shouldn’t Alcinder make things clear?"
"Why should he? It’s the humans’ girl who is meddling in between,"
"Isn’t the vampire council head’s son playing with the human girl?"
People started gossiping around them, and they, who had no idea about it kept talking about it.
"Can you really not make the decision? Pretty please? You can bring Alcinder and Daniel too if you want," Samantha said.
"Excuse me? What do you mean she can invite us? Were we not originally invited? If not, who is going?" Daniel asked, and Samantha shrugged.
"I was hoping to go alone with her and spend some quality time," Samantha said as if it was no big deal, and Daniel stood in front of Elliana protectively.
"If you think you can fool us, you are not exactly very sharp, Samantha. After all the hostility you showed to my - *cough* *cough* to Elliana, do you think we would let you go on a trip with her alone," Daniel scoffed.
"What do you mean?"
"I am coming if she is going, without a doubt. I don’t care whether I am invited or not. Her safety is my response after I took this chick under my wings. Now she is my kitten, and I will protect her like a mother bear," Daniel paused when he realized the problem with his sentence, and Elliana looked up at him with an amused look.
"Can you stick to one animal at a time?" She mused, and he blushed, making everyone chuckle when he scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"I can’t say anything for sure right now because I need to take permission from my guardian. However, if I get that permission, I would surely want Daniel to be there," Elliana said making Daniel smile, and he hugged her from the side, pressing her face into his side.
"Mmmmhh!" Elliana patted his side furiously because he almost rendered her unable to breathe and the latter chuckled.
"Sorry," Daniel grinned.
"What about me?" Alcinder asked.
"What about you? It’s one time when you get to stay away from your stalker Samantha, and the human you hate, me. You wouldn’t want to come and torture yourself, right?" Elliana asked, and Alcinder gritted his teeth before scoffing.
"Who is interested in your lame-ass trip anyways? I have work to do at that time," Alcinder looked away, and Elliana chuckled.
"Yeah, you sure have,"
"Are you challenging me?"
"No, I am just stating facts. You surely must have a lot of work since you are some big shot," Elliana looked at him innocently, and Samantha chuckled at his tongue-tied expression while Daniel ruffled Elliana’s hair adoringly.
"Isn’t she the cutest little human we have met?" Daniel asked.
"I am literally considered tall among girls in the human race," Elliana scowled, and Daniel hummed.
"You surely are called,", Alcinder scoffed, making Elliana scowl even harder.
She was about to answer him sarcastically when her phone vibrated with an incoming message. It was a message from the same private number.
Elliana clenched her fingers around her phone. She wanted to see what the message was all about. However, she was surrounded by the vampires right now.
They have high senses. Reading a text would be the easiest thing for them if they leak from above her head.
"When are you going to the arena?" Samantha’s words caught Elliana’s attention, and she shrugged.
"I am not sure about that. Now that I am out of that toxic family, I want to expose more options for myself. Bike racing was something I stumbled upon, I want to give a chance to horse riding now," Elliana didn’t hesitate before answering honestly.
"Horse riding?" Alcinder was the first one to react.
"Yeah. I know a little here and there, but I haven’t participated in horse racing even if it’s just with friends. I want to feel the thrill of that too," Elliana grinned, and Daniel patted her shoulders.
"Aren’t you a lucky little being? Alcinder here owns the biggest stable in the state and has around 50 horses. We can always go to his place and try it out sometime, no?" Daniel looked at Alcinder, and he shrugged.
"As long as she isn’t stealing anything. I am fine with it," Alcinder smirked.
"You are really petty, aren’t you, Alcinder? What will steal from your stable? Your horses? And won’t you be able to see them if I do that?" Elliana raised her brows, making his expression turn cold.
Alcinder stood from his place, his expression unreadable before grabbing her chin and pulling her forward, making everyone raise their brows at his action.
"I don’t think so. There are things that you have been stealing from people without even knowing about them. Let’s start with Daniel’s feelings, Samantha’s coldness, and mine -" Alcinder paused.
Elliana stepped closer to him and looked straight into his eyes boldly.
"Yours what, Mr. Alcinder?" She tilted her head purely curiously, but to Alcinder, it was nothing more than a way of her seduction, and Alcinder narrowed his eyes before rubbing her chin with his thumb, his gaze raking over her face all over.
"My patience and calmness. I have never been so annoyed like when I am with you," Alcinder said, and Daniel rolled his eyes.
"Shut up, will you? You just need moments to bully my new friend," Daniel removed Alcinder’s hand from Elliana’s gave, mainly because he didn’t like how Alcinder was manhandling her and also because he felt jealous of him.
"Well, I am happy that you think I stole something from you. I am sure not many people got this chance too," Elliana looked at Alcinder while Daniel pulled her away from him.
The look was more challenging than any battle Alcinder had fought with other vampires or humans, and he stepped forward but Samantha stood in front of him.
"Daniel is right, Alcinder. Stop bullying her. I used to think that you were interested in her, but now that I look at you, you look like the teenage bully that she had once thought you were," Samantha said, and Alcinder tore his gaze from Elliana to look at Samantha.
Was he interested in her? Of course not. Was he confused about her? Hell yes.
He was having these mixed feelings about how to perceive this girl and her character.
