The Masked Vampire King's Accidental Bride
Chapter 59: Chameleon nature

Chapter 59: Chameleon nature

"What are your plans for the future?"

"What kind of future?" Elliana looked at Daniel, confused.

"The future that involves who you’ll take as your partner for the prom," Daniel wriggled his brows, and Elliana shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal.

"I haven’t given much thought to it. I am not really that good of a dancer, and I don’t want to pull down anyone with me," Elliana sighed, and her gaze moved to her nemesis, who walked inside the canteen with her lackeys tailing behind her.

Even though Madeline was quite rude and evil, Elliana won’t lie, Madeline surely has that princess factor in her. The way she moves, the aura she possesses is not something that can be easily acquired. It comes from within.

Madeline’s strides have always been confident no matter what happened, and she always reeked of pure royalty and queen vibes.

"Where are you looking?" Daniel snapped his fingers in front of her, and Elliana shook her head with her lips pursed into a thin line.

"I wonder if I would be able to exert that kind of attitude, at least enough to present myself with confidence," Elliana’s words didn’t make sense to Daniel, but he nodded nonetheless for her sake.

"You want more attitude? Isn’t the one that you have already enough? Besides, why do you want to copy others when you can act like a perfect chameleon? Your attitude on the raving track, while eating, while studying, and when you want something is completely different," Alcinder sat beside her.

"Are you saying this in an insulting manner?" Elliana looked at the council’s head’s son with raised brows, and the latter chuckled.

"If I want to insult you, I don’t need to hide behind such words. I can be straight to the point," He said, and Elliana nodded.

Fair enough. It wasn’t like he was actually her friend. He has shown nothing but hostility and wariness from the day he met her. There’s no need for him to be sugarcoating his words just for her sake.

Elliana strangely felt motivated by Alcinder’s words and she smiled before nodding.

"I guess you are right. But don’t you think that kind of modulation and wavelength is needed to live a healthy and adventurous life?" Elliana looked at Daniel for backup who didn’t know what to say.

He didn’t agree with her this time. As much as this kind of wavelength is good for the person who is enjoying it, this change isn’t always good for the person on the other end. It appears quite misleading and hard to trust.

Daniel didn’t say anything, but Alcinder wasn’t having it. He scoffed at her face and rolled his eyes.

"You are saying this because you just want to hide your cunningness very well. Do you think I actually believe you are innocent and cute? You are the definition of a devil in disguise. Someone who shouldn’t be trusted easily because you never know when she’ll surprise you," Alcinder looked straight into Elliana’s eyes, and she felt exposed.

It was the same feeling when Mr. Marino looks into her eyes, the feeling where it feels like they have understood everything about her and disclosed all the secrets she was hiding.

However, even after this intense gaze, Elliana was able to maintain her cool because, at the end of the day, she knows that no one knows about her. No one knows what kind of person she really was.

Then again, she herself doesn’t know what kind of person she actually was.

Was she really the person who was recklessly bullied because she was helpless and didn’t want them to throw her out of the royal Kingdom while dimming her chances of finding her mom?

Or was she the powerful person hiding behind the facade of being innocent and cute, which she must remind herself that her facade is faltering these days, and it won’t be long before her true self would be revealed to the world.

"You guys talk, I need to arrange something," Daniel left them, and Elliana narrowed her eyes, the approachable expression she had earlier immediately turned into a scowl, and Alcinder looked at the girl with raised brows.

"So Daniel is your only friend here? As soon as he leaves, you are back to concentrating on your food. Do you really have no respect for me?" Alcinder didn’t feel right.

This human always finds a way to hurt his ego time after time, and the funny fact is that he lets her do it.

"It’s not that, Alcinder," Elliana’s way of calling his name caught his attention, and he raised his brows.

"That’s strange. You don’t always call me by my name directly," Elliana had Alcinder’s complete attention now.

"I read somewhere that to strengthen your bonds with people, you should drop the honorifics if the people are okay with it," Elliana turned her head and looked straight into his eyes with an intensity that made Alcinder look away immediately.

"I didn’t know you wanted to strengthen your bond with me," Alcinder felt like a fool for acting like this.

He was acting like a teenage girl whose idol just told her he will accept her flowers.

"I am always looking forward to strengthening my bonds with people. It just doesn’t end well with people sometimes because everyone is influenced by my sis-" Elliana paused when she realized what she was about to say, and she gulped before looking back at her plate.

"It’s okay if you don’t want to share anything. Everyone here has a secret or two, some even dirtier and scarier than you can comprehend," Alcinder placed his hand on top of hers and massaged her knuckles.

Elliana smiled at him.

"You said you don’t know how to dance and don’t want to bring anyone down with yourself, no? Do you want to give it a try with me? Just enjoy it," Alcinder pulled Elliana out of her seat, and she looked at him, wide-eyed.

"Mr. Alcinder, what are you -"

"Mr.? Are we putting on honorifics again?" Alcinder looked at the canteen lady who understood his signal and increased the volume of the music.

Elliana felt a bit embarrassed when she noticed everyone was looking at them.

Normally people don’t stare if two people stand near their table but this was the vampire council head’s son they were talking about. Someone, who doesn’t interacts much with women. He was now standing with a human with his hand on her back.

"Alcinder, I don’t think this is a good idea," Elliana’s heart was beating at the pace of the bullet train, and Alcinder smirked at her.

"This is exactly the kind of adventure you make people want to have with you. I am seriously a fool to want to pull off something like this. I have never done this before either. So just cooperate with me, okay?" Alcinder said.

Elliana gulped when her gaze met with people including humans and vampires sitting around her.

"This is pure madness. There are hundreds of empty spots in this University where you can teach me to dance. Why must you pull something like this is beyond me," Elliana bit her lips before she stepped forward like Mr. Marino had asked her to do it?

"Do you want to step up on my shoes?" Alcinder asked, and Elliana looked at his feet, contemplating.

"My sandals have small heels," she said, and Alcinder hummed before he held her left hand and pushed her outward, making her swirl she almost shrieked, if not for Alcinder who pulled her back with the same jerk, making her back hit his chest.

"Relax," Alcinder said, and he held her hand before twirling her in place.

He placed his leg under her knee and forced her to dip before he jerked her up and lifted her in the air, circling before he made her dip again before placing her on the ground and twirling.

Elliana who had recently eaten her lunch felt a bile rising in her throat because of all the twirling and swirling. She was getting the impression that he was doing all this to take some kind of revenge on her when the song suddenly changed to a romantic one, and he slowed down.

Alcinder pulled her close, their bodies only inches apart. He looked down into her big wide eyes, and her fast-beating heart was like music to his ears.

He twirled her gently before pulling her close, his hand resting on her stomach, and everyone who thought Alcinder was bullying the human girl for fun, immediately changed their minds when they noticed how gentle he was being with her.

It was as if he didn’t want to cross any boundaries and look inappropriate but convey his feelings at the same time. It was beautiful. The glow in their faces because of the sunlight was literally making them shine.

"This is how you really dance when you are in love. You get it?" Alcinder said and turned her to face him.

"So when you choose who you are partner is, make sure you don’t give him any mixed signals until you are serious about him, okay? I have seen hearts breaking on these proms and fresher parties. And you will be breaking many hearts, I promise," Alcinder flicked her nose before he stopped and bowed to her respectfully like a dance partner.

Everyone was shocked at his gentlemanly nature at the end, and Melony who was standing at some distance started clapping madly, followed by everyone.

She was one of the moderators of the students’ forum, and now she just earned herself a good gossip.

Among the mayor’s son and council head’s son, who will take Elliana’s first dance at the prom?
