Chapter 58: Sebastian’s trick

"Hmm, uhuh. Maybe, I am a princess in the fairy world, maybe I am a devil in the human world. I am tired of being held back, trying to keep my strength inside. I am tired of being held down when all I want is to get under your skin," Elliana hummed as she roamed the garden, exploring the small fields of roses.

Miss Zoya looked at the happy Princess even after everything she suffered and couldn’t help but smile.

"Princess, I need to check up on the other servants and see the arrangements. Would you mind being alone for a few minutes?" Miss Zoya looked at Elliana.

Will she mind being alone? Never. That’s what she wanted honestly. Miss Zoya was good and everything, but the way she was following her was making her creep out.

It was like being under supervision all the time. She was wary of every single thing, and Elliana didn’t like the invisible boundaries.

"I won’t mind. You can do your work. I will be in the garden only. You can stay rest assured about my safety too," Elliana out of her best smile to let Miss Zoya know she had no problem at all, and the latter nodded.

"Very well, Princess. The prince is back in the mansion and probably would come to meet you soon," Miss Zoya bowed at the princess one last time before she left and Elliana heaved a sigh of relief.

She turned to the Black rose field at some distance and her pupils dilated in amazement.

Elliana always wanted a black rose field in the kingdom but her stepmother always said that black roses bring bad luck to the family and never allowed it.

Marla even threw the black rose she had bought and accused her of wishing the family an early death.

Elliana tried to convince her stepmother Multiple times that it also signified rebirth and change, something full of hope and optimism, but it always ended up in her earning a beating over it.

After some time, Elliana walked further toward the backside of the palace. This was a big place and her feet were already starting to hurt because of the small heels in her sandals.

She took off her sandals and held them in her hand while strolling in the garden.

As she walked further toward the west side of the palace backward, she heard some muffled voices and narrowed her eyes.

"I can’t believe this happened. How can you have no idea who was it?" The familiar man said, and Elliana scrunched her brows.

This voice surely belonged to Mr. Lucas who was always with The prince. Does that mean Mr. Marino was here too? Elliana smiled with a slight blush creeping down her neck, eager to meet her husband.

She walked in the direction of the voice to enter the area when with the speed of light, Lucas appeared in front of her.

"What are you doing here, Princess?" Lucas asked, his voice controlled.

Elliana pursed her lips and tried to look past him from under his hand but Lucas didn’t give her anyway, and she scowled.

"I was taking a stroll in the garden when I heard your voice. Is Mr. Marino here?" Elliana blinked at Lucas, who looked at her for a few seconds and was about to deny it when someone walked from behind him and Elliana looked at the new guy in amazement.

Her heart skipped a beat at the beauty of this man that felt otherworldly. She couldn’t take her eyes off of him for a few seconds before she cleared her throat.

"Sir -" Lucas looked at Sebastian with wide eyes because he didn’t expect him to appear like this.

"You shouldn’t be here alone. Where is Miss Zoya?" Sebastian asked, and Elliana scrunched her brows but didn’t say anything.

Wasn’t this man acting a bit too authoritative with her?

"Miss Zoya had to look over the other maids. I told her I was fine without being supervised since I was strolling in the palace only. You still haven’t answered my question, Mr. Lucas. Is Mr. Marino here? He wasn’t in the palace last night either. Will he join me for breakfast?" Elliana blinked at Lucas, and he looked at Sebastian, who had an amused look on his face.

It looks like his wife wasn’t as cunning as he had guessed.

Just because he wasn’t wearing his mask, she denied recognizing him? Was she for real? How can someone be so innocently stupid as she was?

Sebastian walked ahead, and Elliana stepped back involuntarily.

"Who are you? Since Lucas called you sir, I guess you work directly under the prince. Can you pass my message to him?" Elliana asked, and Sebastian looked at his wife before humming.

"Lucas, leave us alone," Sebastian looked at his subordinate who nodded, unsure of what the prince wanted, and left the area.

"What is the message you want to give to your prince? He and I are like brothers. You can tell me everything. I am a good listener too," Sebastian said.

This was good. He has been trying to get into Elliana’s brain for quite some time and has been thinking of how to do it. He didn’t know the solution to his problems was in his face. Sebastian smirked at his thoughts and his innocent wife, who looked at him with a slight blush.

"Can you tell him even if this relationship doesn’t hold much meaning to him, I really like it when he dines with me? I am not sure what I did wrong yesterday, and if he got offended because of something, but I hope he can forgive me," Elliana smiled genuinely while looking at her feet, and Sebastian thinned his lips.

This trick again! Why does she keep doing this? What kind of witchy powers does this woman holds to revoke his avenging feelings and provoke this feeling of protecting her inside his heart?

The smirk on Sebastian’s face faltered, and he looked at the girl with a scowl.

It looks like this method will take some time too. He sighed inwardly and massaged the area between his brows.

"Do you love our youngest prince?" Sebastian asked cunningly, wanting just one reason to act against her. Just anything that could make him hurt and hate her, and would give him a reason to act upon his revenge without thinking about Elliana’s feelings. He wanted just one reason.

"Are you asking me this because you are his subordinate and want to snitch on me, or because you are just curious?" Elliana asked, and Sebastian turned around to focus on the forest.

"As I have said before, Sebastian and I are like brothers, but it doesn’t mean we always get along. I truly believe it was cruel of him to marry and bring you here. Everyone knows how much he hates the hunter’s bloodline because of what happened to his mother," He said, and Elliana hummed.

"I have heard about it recently. It’s a loss that no one can compensate for," Elliana sat on the pavement of the back entrance, and Sebastian looked at the guards, who nodded and left the couple alone.

"Love is a strong feeling, Mr. "

"Call me Tian," Sebastian said, and Elliana nodded.

"I honestly believe love can not be expressed in words, Tian. It’s a feeling that hardly anyone had been able to unlock and understand," Elliana plucked some grasses and played with it.

"Some say love is the name of sacrifice, while some say love is the name of living in the name of your loved ones. Some people give up their whole life for that person and end their lives when they can’t get to that person. Living without that person is impossible. And some people live their whole lives in the memories of that one incident that is enough to hold them together," Elliana looked into the eyes of the extremely breathtaking man in front of her that almost looked like Mr. Sebastian.

If she wasn’t married to Mr. Sebastian, she didn’t see why she or anyone else wouldn’t fall for this man here.

"What do you feel for your husband then?" Sebastian’s question brought her out of her thoughts.

"Compassion," Elliana answered without thinking twice, and Sebastian narrowed his eyes.

"Compassion?"

"Yes. I feel that there is hardly anyone who understands Mr. Marino. They call him a monster and evil, but what do they expect from someone who had to spend his life without love from anyone? Would he have been the same person if his mother was alive, and like everyone, his parents were here to take care of him?" Elliana looked into Sebastian’s eyes.

For the first time, Sebastian felt tongue-tied. He didn’t have anything to say against what Elliana said.

He looked at his feet, remembering his sorrows, and his fists clenched around his hand.

"Seeing how you are getting angry on his behalf, I can see you are a good friend to him. I hope you never leave his side," Elliana placed her hand over Sebastian’s hand.

"What I feel towards my husband is more than what I will call logical. I know Mr. Marino would never fall in love with me," Elliana smiled at her hands.

"That’s why I am compensating him for all the love that my bloodline took away from him. There is no love greater than a mother’s love, but maybe if I love him wholeheartedly, I will be able to repay some of the love that we owe him," Elliana wiped the stray tear that rolled down her eyes.

Elliana took a deep breath before smiling.

"Or maybe by loving him, I will find the lost love that I always wanted from others. Mr. Marino might not be a good person in the world for others, but he is the best husband for me. Someone who knows to stand up for his family. What else can I ask for?" Elliana said before looking into Tian’s eyes.

"Besides, let’s not forget how handsome he is," Elliana smiled and stood before dusting her clothes.

"Wait. Do you think he is handsome? You haven’t even seen what his face looks like. Don’t you think you are bluffing a bit too much?" Sebastian asked, and Elliana removed his hand from hers gently.

"First, please refrain from grabbing your friend’s wife. It’s inappropriate. Second, I don’t need to look at his face to know he is the most beautiful person around me. His aura when he is with me is enough. Third, don’t look at me with that gaze, it is misleading," Elliana turned around and left.

The annoyance was clear in her eyes when she left, but what she didn’t see was the surprise in Sebastian’s eyes.

He sat there on the pavement thinking about everything she said.

"Sir, we got -"

Lucas paused when he saw Sebastian’s hunched back. It was clear something happened.

Was it related to the princess? Did he tell her this was what he looked like and was nothing like the people who described him? Lucas hoped that was the case because anyone is bound to fall for this beautiful face, no?

He hoped to have the princess in the kingdom for a long time since it was finally bringing his prince out of his shell.
