Chapter 562: The real culprit
"Do you want me to be satisfied?" Elliana asked, a subtle smile on her face.
"You really wanted to hit me that bad? Did you notice the crack in the ground?" Vincenzo asked.
"You bet," Elliana said, her expression unreadable, and Vincenzo used his vampire speed on her, slamming her on the wall with his hand wrapped around her neck while Elliana looked straight into his eyes, unbothered and fearless.
"Is this enough for your revenge?" Elliana asked.
The man kept gazing into her eyes for a few seconds before he sighed, putting her down, bringing out candy from his pocket that he placed in the middle of her hand.
Elliana looked at the candy in her hand with mixed emotions.
"So? Were you able to accomplish what you wanted?" Vincenzo asked and Elliana huffed, a troubled glint crossing her gaze.
"I still have mixed thoughts about it. There definitely is one prince that I highly doubt, but I can’t say anything just based on my observations. It’s a sensitive matter," Elliana said.
"Is that so? Who?" He asked, looking at the balcony of her room.
Shaking his head at her negligence, he went to the balcony and shut the door, making Elliana raise her brows.
"Mr. Vincenzo! Why would you close the door like that? What intentions do you have?" Elliana asked.
Vincenzo rolled his eyes at her facade.
"Stop your act. It’s just you and me here," Vincenzo said, walking to her before ruffling her hair softly, making her smile.
One night ago~~~
Elliana called Vincenzo when she saw him walking inside the royal palace while she was walking in the backyard, waiting for her husband to return.
It was the time after she talked with Leila about what the witches might be doing and what strategies she should consider to defeat them.
She was walking outside in the backyard near the rose fields to clear her head.
Elliana wanted to discuss this matter with Mr. Marino first, but she also knew that the man would just tell her to not worry about anything and would take that burden on himself too.
"What is it, Glory?" Vincenzo asked, walking side by side.
"There is something I need you to do. Will you be able to?" Elliana asked and Vincenzo paused.
"I am not stealing anything or going against Sebastian. And don’t even think about making Sebastian jealous by using me," Vincenzo said.
Elliana rolled her eyes.
"Seriously? Is he the only person you are scared of? There is something I need to check and find out. And no, it’s not related to Mr. Marino," Elliana said to Vincenzo, who looked at her even more suspiciously after hearing that.
This was definitely not something political. Then?
"What is it?" Vincenzo asked.
"First tell me, will you be able to help me? I will...umm... I might beat you a little," Elliana said quickly, and Vincenzo, who was walking with her, paused a little.
"Wait. What did you say? Can you speak a little slowly?" Vincenzo squinted his brows as she looked at him with a sheepish smile.
"Well, this is for the mission. You need to sacrifice a little," Elliana said like a leader, and Vincenzo looked at her helplessly.
"Mission? What kind of mission? Only you are making it sound like that. Seriously, woman, what is going on inside your head?" Vincenzo asked, feeling weirded out when Elliana smiled wickedly.
~~~~~
Present time ~~~
He unwrapped the candy for her and raised it towards her face, making her immediately take the candy in her mouth.
"I suspect Prince Angelo," Elliana said, dropping the bomb on Vincenzo as if it were nothing.
"Are you sure about it? Do you know who you are talking about?" Vincenzo asked, and Elliana hummed.
"I am 80% sure it’s him. According to Leila who isn’t allowed to tell me who this prince is, the man also wants me along with the throne.
I did my research," Elliana said after a pause before taking a deep breath.
"If it had been Prince Stephano, he wouldn’t have been given his throne so easily. Prince Santo has always shown interest in the royal army, and that’s why he manages that.
Prince Marcus never wanted to be involved in politics and wanted to be a professor of medicine all his life. Prince Angelo is the only one left," Elliana added.
Vincenzo was about to tell her that Angelo never showed interest in the throne when Elliana added.
"Let’s not forget how he wasn’t even in the kingdom when the rogue vampire attack took place. According to him, he had gone for the meeting, but that meeting was scheduled by Grandpa two days ahead.
Why did he feel the need to go there earlier when it wasn’t even that important? He canceled three meetings with the Dukes of Callisto regions for that one meeting that you took recently," Elliana added.
Vincenzo hummed, thinking about all the things Elliana mentioned, and if he noticed something or not.
"Also, he was the only prince who had the most outrageous reaction when you mentioned the trip with me for a week. He was the one who came to support me, as far as ignoring Mom Freya to support me. He blushed when I mentioned things like a wife like me, but more than that, his gaze was envious when he was talking about how lucky Mr. Marino got after marrying me," Elliana said before her brows scrunched as if she was thinking about something carefully.
"He said he will always be there for me. Words like these that usually are spoken when you are a very great friend or a lover of the person were mentioned. He held my hand 7 times in total, even invading my personal space to whisper in my ears three times," she sighed.
Vincenzo looked at the girl.
"And for some reason, you don’t doubt me?" He asked, unsure if he should be happy or sad that he wasn’t even an option on her list.
Does she not think that there was a time when he actually liked her a little bit on the borderline of friendship? That he was serious about that vacation thing?
"Hmm, I don’t," Elliana said.
"Even when you found solid evidence that I was on the beach?" Vincenzo asked and Elliana hummed.
"Why?" Vincenzo asked her, feeling strangely emotional.
Elliana looked at him with a soft sigh before smiling.
"Because you are still the same man who could die and kill for his family. A thing like a throne is too little of a thing for you to become disloyal and regarding me? You know that I am always with you as your friend. And let’s not forget, you trusted me when I thought the rest of the world would be against me. Now it was my turn," Elliana said, making the man bite the inside of his cheeks before he gulped to get a hold of his emotions.
"Who told you that you can make a grown-ass man emotional?" Vincenzo scowled, making her smile.
