Chapter 483: What was wrong?
"You look beautiful," Vincenzo immediately complimented as soon as she reached him, and she nodded in appreciation.
"Is Mr. Marino not here?" She asked, and Vincenzo narrowed his brows.
Right. Why was his brother not here?
"Maybe he went back to the room to get ready quickly. The guy has been working hard on the arrangements. I don’t know what has gotten into him, but he is acting like something even more special than the crowning ceremony will happen tomorrow," Vincenzo murmured.
"Is that the case? I wonder what that is,"
She felt like laughing at herself.
Mr. Marino was surely taking his time telling her things and revealing his big secret.
"Elliana, my love, you look so lovely. I didn’t know you had a dress decided for yourself. And damn, you have an eye for good things. All those dresses I sent to your room hold no light to this one," Freya gushed and Elliana smiled at her compliment.
"This felt like the best I had for the occasion. I’ve wanted to try this dress for a long time. And what occasion could be better than a royal party," Elliana softly said, and Vincenzo looked at the dress, his mind telling him something was definitely wrong.
She wasn’t really the kind of person who would wear black on such occasions despite what she says.
"That’s true. Haha, I hope you enjoy the night," Freya told her before she went to attend to her friends.
Elliana stopped a servant and took a glass of champagne.
"Elliana, you are not thinking of drinking the night away, are you?" Vincenzo asked, suddenly feeling scared of what she was thinking, knowing all too well what she was capable of.
"Brother Vincenzo, do you know who is the most dangerous person in the party?" Elliana asked as she swept her gaze around all the people who were laughing and chatting, some with pretentious smiles, some with awkward skills, and some with evil smirks.
Vincenzo didn’t like the tone she was using, nor did he like the question she asked and he sighed.
"No matter who comes to the party, it won’t affect the fact that Sebastian remains the strongest," Vincenzo said, unashamed of the fact that his younger brother was the strongest among all the powerful people in the party.
"Wrong answer," Elliana whispered.
"Then who is the strongest? You?" Vincenzo chuckled to dismiss the matter.
She didn’t smile, and Vincenzo’s smile started to falter slowly, her serious expression caught him off-guard.
"Elliana, you are giving me chills now. What are you thinking?" Vincenzo asked, grabbing her shoulders and forcing her to look into his eyes.
"Why are you acting like I am some kind of strange woman at the party? Don’t break my heart," Elliana drowned the drink before she placed the glass down on the table.
She was about to move when someone grabbed her hand from behind and her heart skipped a beat.
Elliana didn’t need to turn around to know who it was, and she closed her eyes for a second to calm herself before forcing a smile on her face, an act that didn’t go unnoticed by Vincenzo who was standing right beside her in the corner.
"Princess," Sebastian whispered in his infamous soft tone that he uses only for her.
Elliana turned around, looking at the man in front of her with quivering eyes when she noticed he matched his attire with hers despite it being a big night for him. Her lower lip trembled before she looked down at her feet.
’Why, why do you have to be so cruelly good to me, Mr. Marino? How can you do these acts of love and care when you are clearly betraying me? Why can’t you show me some mercy? It would’ve been better if you hadn’t treated me with love. That way I would’ve expected this, but how can you expect me to understand after you made me feel and realize how much you loved me? Were all those feelings a lie too?’ Her heart raged even more and she clenched her hands at the questions in her heart.
"You are the most beautiful woman I have ever met in my life. Seriously, how do you manage to look this pretty and prettier every time? You look amazing," Sebastian smiled at her through his half-mask, his eyes genuine, and Elliana smiled.
All these words... All these words used to make her blush and smile, beam from ear to ear, but now these words were like slaps in her face, the slaps that told her how good he was at acting, and she nodded.
"You look handsome too," Elliana smiled before placing her hand on his heart.
She rose on her toes.
Sebastian, who thought she wanted to kiss him leaned forward, but Elliana only smiled before evening his crooked collar.
She patted his collar before smiling one last time.
"Attend to your guests. I know it’s important," She whispered.
She grabbed another glass of champagne from one of the servants, turned around, and left.
Sebastian was left frozen in his place, his eyes turning dark once again.
This was the second time his princess dodged his affection, and Lucas, who was witnessing everything, couldn’t help but think something was definitely wrong.
"Princess, Princess," Lucas rushed behind the princess, who immediately stopped and turned around with a genuine smile.
"Mr. Pablo," She nodded at him.
Lucas froze... What was he here to say again? Why was she treating Mr Marino differently?
But then again, what exactly was wrong? She smiled at him and helped him with the collar like every wife would do. Probably she didn’t want to kiss him in front of everyone. What was he going to ask? Why didn’t she kiss?
"Is there something you want to say?" Elliana asked when the subordinate kept looking at her.
Lucas snapped out of his daze and shook his head.
"I... I am sorry. I just wanted to say you look very pretty tonight and black is definitely your color," Lucas complimented.
Elliana smiled.
"I know, right? I wonder if it compliments my dark soul or my dark fate," Elliana chuckled, making Lucas look at her.
What did she say?
"I am just kidding. Enjoy the party," Elliana said and was about to turn around when she bumped into someone.
"Oh my!" A female’s startled voice reached her ears and she immediately turned to apologize to the person.
"I am sorry. I didn’t see where I was going," Elliana whispered before bowing, but before she could even bend her back, someone held her hand, making her turn.
"I am sure it was a mistake, Miss Brooklyn" Prince Stephano smiled, his smile forced.
"Miss Brooklyn," Even Lucas bowed to her slightly, and Elliana took a deep breath.
"A mistake? My whole dress is ruined. Do you humans really have no manners?" Brooklyn hissed.
Elliana’s powers got angry, but Elliana’s attention was only on one thing. The girl’s face.
Wasn’t she the same girl who was destined to marry Mr. Marino, if not for her marriage with him? She didn’t remember her name clearly at that time, but now she recognized her. She was Princess Scarlett’s sister-in-law’s friend.
"This is no way to talk to her, Miss Brooklyn. She is not a mere human, but Sebastian’s wife," Stephano said, his stern voice catching everyone’s attention near them.
Freya and Ruth who weren’t too far heard Stephano’s voice and immediately turned to the commotion.
"Yeah, I wonder how long she would last for," Brooklyn smirked, and everyone gasped.
People started talking in hushed whispers, some talking about if the human was temporary and if she would leave tomorrow after the ceremony while some talking about how unfortunate Elliana was that even after being married to the prince, she had no respect in high class. That she wasn’t recognized.
"You-" Stephano started, but Elliana clenched her hand around his and the man immediately stopped turning to the girl, who shook her head at him.
