Chapter 472: Second Marriage?
"Sir, are you going to your room now?" Lucas asked as soon as they got out of the car.
"Ambrose, we will be leaving for the royal palace in the afternoon. I want you to keep everything ready. The ceremony is the day after tomorrow and will probably commence in the morning around 10. I want all of my trusted people to be there. You guys are the only family I can trust," Sebastian said to Ambrose, and the man bowed in respect and understanding.
It was the same.
He remembered saying the exact words to Ambrose around three months ago when he was going to marry the princess.
No one from his family had accompanied him on his big day. Some were busy, some were out of station, or whatever reasons they had.
Queen Ruth had said that it wasn’t a big deal and was just a pact between two species, and he was just going to bring the bride home. Nothing special. Even though it was literally a proper marriage, she said it was nothing.
Sebastian scoffed internally.
What they thought was nothing special became the most precious day of his life.
Just like that, he didn’t expect anyone from the family to be truly happy for him. They might clap their hands with pretentious smiles on their faces, but he knew the truth.
There would never be a day when they would be happy with his success. And that was why he needed his people to be there, people who would really cheer and support him.
And his wife too.
Sebastian’s gaze involuntarily shifted to the balcony of their room on the third floor, and he smiled behind the mask.
She would be truly happy to see him getting crowned. Moreover, he would take off his mask in front of her. It was high time he felt her hands on his face for real for the first time, despite her shock.
He wanted to see and feel it all.
She was his wife after all.
This reminded him -
"I asked Vincent to prepare the dress for the princess for the big day. Why has it not been delivered yet?" Sebastian turned towards Casper, who looked at his prince awkwardly.
"Sir, actually -" Casper sighed.
"What is it?" Sebastian asked, his expression turning dark.
"The thing is, other princesses and princes also gave their orders to their shop and -"
"And he dared to give priority to them and not my wife’s dress?" Sebastian completed the sentence.
Casper looked around, his gaze moving to Lucas, hoping he would say something to handle the matter, just like he always does, but Lucas was busy in his own thoughts and the poor guy was left with no choice other than admitting to it.
"Yes, sir. However, today I gave Vincent the ultimatum in your name. The team has ensured to get the dress done by tomorrow evening, sir," Casper said and Sebastian hummed.
The subordinate sighed in relief when his prince wasn’t angry, but he was too quick to react.
"If the dress isn’t ready by tomorrow evening, I hope you won’t have a problem lending me your skin to create a dress for my wife with it, right? I gave the order two weeks ago. It should’ve been the priority either way. If things didn’t work out, Vincent isn’t the only good designer and tailor in the state. You just wish that my wife had something appropriate to wear for the big day," Sebastian said, and Casper bowed in apology.
"I am sorry, sir. I will go to the showroom immediately and sit there until they are done with the princess dress," Casper whispered before leaving.
Ambrose also left after exchanging a few more words.
Once everyone left, Lucas looked at his prince once again, his brows drawn together in frustration and underlying anger.
The storm brewing in his head wasn’t even close to his expression. It almost felt like he would explode with all the emotions he was feeling.
Meanwhile, in the room, Elliana opened her eyes when she heard slight voices from downstairs.
Hoping it was Mr. Marino who returned, Elliana quickly stood from the bed and put on her slippers before padding her way toward the balcony to look down towards the entrance, from behind the wall to not get caught.
Her lips immediately stretched into a smile when she saw it was indeed him talking to his subordinate.
’Circe, I want to hear what they are talking about. Can you make it possible?’ Elliana asked for her powers which immediately heightened her hearing abilities, making her lean on the glass door so that no one could see her standing there and suspect she was trying to hear what they were talking about.
"You just wish that my wife had something appropriate to wear for the big day," she heard Mr. Marino speak in a possessive voice, and her heart skipped a beat, making her want to keep hearing him talk about her and his care towards her.
She was about to walk inside after she heard enough and none of the other sentences piqued her interest when she heard Lucas’s voice.
"Sir, you can’t avoid my question forever," Lucas said.
Sebastian looked at him, his head tilting in curiosity.
"What makes you think I am avoiding your question, Lucas? Am I going straight to my room? Yes, I am. There, you have your answer. Happy?" Sebastian asked, and Lucas clenched his jaws.
His eyes turned dark as he looked at his prince.
"Prince Sebastian, you clearly know what I am talking about. What are you planning to do to increase your votes?" Lucas asked, his voice firmer than before, surprising even Elliana who never heard Mr. Pablo talking to Mr. Marino in this tone.
"Lucas, what are you trying to insinuate here?" Sebastian asked, his gaze narrowed at his subordinate.
"You met Brooklyn, sir," Lucas said, his voice barely above a whisper, but Elliana, who was using her powers to hear the conversation, heard the name crystal clear, and her body froze.
Brooklyn. Wasn’t she the same girl who -?
Elliana gulped. She closed her eyes, biting her lower lip.
She didn’t like the way Mr. Pablo said the girl’s name. It was almost as if he was accusing the prince of something.
And while she knew not to overthink and suspect anything that she didn’t have any knowledge of, she couldn’t control her heart which was already starting to beat faster in anticipation.
She knew it was better to stop hearing things from here onwards if she wanted to keep her emotions in control, but a part of her wanted to hear it.
Meeting a girl isn’t always equal to betraying or cheating and she should act more maturely. She told herself.
There was no way Mr. Marino was going to betray her.
She was sure of it, but a part of her suddenly felt scared, and she wanted to hear the conversation to calm that part.
"Yes, I met her. She will help me increase my votes by asking her father for help. He has around 100 votes in his jurisdiction. As soon as they come to our side, and we gain their favor, there is nothing that can stop us from winning and getting me the crown," Sebastian explained.
Lucas nodded in understanding before looking his prince straight in the eyes.
"And how are you planning on that, sir? Why would Brooklyn help you?" Lucas asked, expecting the worst already.
"Why are you asking me things when you already know the truth, Lucas?" Sebastian asked, and Elliana took a shaky breath.
Mr. Pablo might know the answer, but she didn’t. She needed to hear the reason too. Why would that girl help them?
’Please say it, Mr. Marino. Say that it’s just in exchange for some commodity and nothing more,’ Elliana prayed in her heart.
"I want to hear the reason, sir," Lucas said, making Elliana’s heart beat even more loudly.
Sebastian sighed.
"It’s in return for marriage. I will have to marry her for those 100 votes," Sebastian said.
Thump. Elliana’s heart thumped in her chest, clenching painfully when she heard what Mr. Marino said.
S-second marriage?
