Chapter 457: Surrounded by witches

Chapter 457: Surrounded by witches

Elliana was about to run in the direction that Dexter disappeared off to when Alcinder held her hand, making her turn to look him in the eyes.

"Is that true? You are leaving?" Alcinder asked, a strange emotion passing through his eyes once again, and Elliana nodded.

She deliberately told them she would leave in a week to make them think she would leave after the results were out rather than after the ceremony.

"If things don’t work in the way my guardian wants, I will have to leave this place," Elliana paused.

"Shouldn’t you be happy? The only girl who used to disrespect you would be gone?" She chuckled awkwardly to ease the tension in the air, her gaze flickering to all her friends before settling on one girl who was standing at some distance with her eyes wide.

It was Shreya Colton, Miss Zoya’s daughter.

Elliana thinned her lips. She just hoped that the caretaker’s daughter only took this thing as a joke and wouldn’t tell the tale to her mother or it would be hard for her to explain everything to them, especially Mr. Marino.

"But, why suddenly? Is there nothing we can do to help? Is it because your guardian doesn’t want you to be near the youngest royal prince? Like, we understand, he is a walking threat to just any vampire and -" Daniel couldn’t complete his sentence.

He looked behind her, his gaze turning neutral immediately.

"Princess," Elliana heard Vincenzo’s voice.

"I will catch up with you guys later," Elliana nodded at her friends before she turned around and left.

Everyone noticed how Prince Vincenzo glared at Alcinder who had been holding Elliana’s hand earlier before he turned around, walking behind Elliana as if he was her personal bodyguard.

They witnessed how he took what looked like candy from his pocket and offered it to the human girl, who unwrapped the candy and popped it in her mouth.

"Don’t you think Elliana’s involvement with the royal vampires is kind of strange? Like, we have been studying here for three years, and never once did they make their presence known in the University before she came. I understand that it’s majorly because the laboratory is sponsored by Prince Sebastian, but still," Samantha said.

Their brows quirked when they saw Prince Vincenzo holding Elliana’s purse in his hand as she sat inside the car.

He gave the purse to her before closing the door and sitting on the other side of the car.

Why did he look so whipped around her? Could it be that he was her guardian? No. How was that even possible?

"What was that all about?" Elliana asked as soon as they sat in the car.

Vincenzo glared at her.

"You tell me, what was that all about? I came to tell you that the things you asked me to check are in their place and we have arranged for the extra packets. I was going to tell you after you exited the university and left. But what’s going on?" Vincenzo paused as he looked out of the window to see if they were still there or not.

"Are your people so hellbent on letting everyone know who you are before you announce it to the world?" Vincenzo asked, confusing Elliana.

"Hmm? What do you mean by my people?"

"Witches, why are so many witches keeping an eye on you today?" Vincenzo asked, and Elliana turned her head out of the window, her gaze meeting with one witch.

She immediately remembered what was wrong.

"Damn it," Elliana whispered before she patted the driver’s shoulder.

"Let me out here. I had a training session scheduled today right after my exam. They must be trying to call me back. But they can only do it when I am alone, and I haven’t been left alone... " Elliana paused.

"Would you like to come with me?" Elliana asked with a smug look, and Vincenzo’s pupils dilated.

"No thanks," he said, feeling wary of her.

Elliana looked around, finding it strange herself.

"Why are so many witches following me today, Nathaniel? Even if it’s about training, what is the meaning of this?" Elliana asked Nathaniel through her witch powers.

Nathaniel, who was sitting in his office chair, more like, tied to his chair, looked at the girl riding the car with Vincenzo and flickered his gaze at Azura who nodded.

"Don’t reply," she said.

"Let me out!" He snarled at her, but she only smirked.

"Do you take me as a fool? If I let you out, you will go and help her. And I don’t want that," Azura said, making Nathaniel grit his teeth.

"If something happened to her, I swear -" Nathaniel couldn’t complete his sentence. He looked at the scene with wide eyes as one of the witches attacked the car, making it swirl around and almost crashing into the tree.

Elliana’s eyes widened. ’What the hell?’ she shouted in her head, forcing a smile on her place to make it look like the situation was under her control.

"Elliana, I might not know how the witch world works, but this doesn’t really look like they want to call you for some kind of training session," Vincenzo gritted his teeth.

Elliana looked at the witches who looked like they were jumping from tree to tree while keeping a gaze on their car.

She narrowed her eyes when she saw another witch opening her palm. They were attacking her, and though she didn’t understand why they were doing it, the primal urge to protect herself and Prince Vincenzo kicked in.

"Let me out here. They are after me. You go ahead," Elliana said.

"Have you lost your mind? Do you think I am stupid enough to leave you here all alone? I will protect you -" Vincenzo started, but Elliana placed her hand on his and squeezed his fingers tight.

"I can handle this much," Elliana whispered even when her heart was beating loudly since she herself didn’t know what was going on.

Vincenzo looked into her helpless eyes and could understand why she was doing this. He felt pity for her. She didn’t want to appear weak and scared of her own species.

"Are you ashamed of what you are, Princess?" Vincenzo asked, completely forgetting about the driver and Elliana smiled.

"I am not," she shook her head.

Even though this difference was going to take her away from her love, she didn’t hate that she was a witch. Maybe because she felt like she was finally embracing her differences and realizing how she was always supposed to be different.

That maybe she never blended in because she was never supposed to be, but more than that, because even after she hated her mother, these powers were her identity. Something that truly defined her.

She was going to lose a lot of things on this path, but after all this, she would realize who was really going to be on her side in the long term.

"My life isn’t going to be sweet like cinnamon, Vincenzo, but that doesn’t mean I have to dissolve that bitterness in everyone’s life too. You don’t have to suffer because of me. This is my fight," Elliana added.

"Stop the car, Sean," Vincenzo told his loyal secretary, who was driving the car, and the man immediately stopped.

Vincenzo held her hand and pulled her out of the car.

"Go to the palace. Don’t utter a word about what you saw here until I tell you," Vincenzo warned the secretary, knowing all too well that he could count on him.

"Prince Vincenzo -"

"Shut up," Vincenzo said before he bent and picked her in his arms, running towards the deep forests, making her look at his serious face with a serene sadness in her heart.

"You want to see who is going to be with you till the very end, no? Your first supporter is here. I am not going to interfere in your fight, but do it somewhere where no one will see you," Vincenzo said, his actions making sense now.

Elliana nodded when he put her down and stepped away from her.

"All the best, champ," Vincent whispered to her, flickering his gaze towards the tree where around seven witches appeared out of nowhere.

His heart skipped a beat when he heard her heart increasing its pace, and his hands clenched inside his coat’s pocket.

He wanted to help her fight these witches, but she was right.

This was a whole new journey for her and she needed to learn how to tackle things. After all, he wouldn’t be there with her all the time, and unfortunately, nor would her husband, who vows to protect her from everything.

’I will help you if things go out of hand,’ Vincenzo said, loud enough for Elliana to hear, but she just nodded.

What he didn’t know was that the only reason Elliana was scared was because she knew what her powers were capable of, and she didn’t want to show him what a monster she could turn into.

She didn’t want people to be scared of her and call her evil because she was a dark witch.

Elliana looked down at her feet before she opened her palm towards Vincenzo to create a shield around him so that whatever she did here didn’t affect him in any way before she looked up towards the witches.

"I don’t know who sent you here, but let it be a lesson to them. I don’t want to hurt you, but I won’t sit back and let anyone hurt me either. You guys provoked me first and almost risked my friend’s life here. And Elliana can take anything but her family and friends getting hurt," Elliana said, more like pacifying herself before taking a deep shaky breath.
