Chapter 440: Dumber than cnidarians

"Elliana,"

Elliana heard a familiar voice as soon as she exited the exam hall, and she turned to face the person.

The smile on her lips immediately vanished and she looked at her emotionlessly.

"You need to come with me," Madeline grabbed Elliana’s hand before starting to pull her.

She had only taken two steps when Elliana jerked her hand away, making Madeline jerk forward, almost landing on the ground as Elliana stepped aside.

However, Daniel, who was right behind Elliana, saved the girl from falling and embarrassing herself.

He looked at Elliana, surprised that she didn’t help the girl.

He was so used to Elliana being a good girl that he couldn’t bear to see her acting so nonchalantly.

"Ummm... Is everything okay?" Daniel looked between Elliana and Madeline.

If Madeline thought that she was the old Elliana who would become awkward and nod her head to save herself some embarrassment, she was wrong in so many ways.

"Nothing is okay. She wants to drag me somewhere to talk and I am not interested," Elliana murmured before shifting her gaze back to Madeline.

"What do you want to talk to me about? You can talk here. I don’t have anything to hide," Elliana said, staring right into Madeline’s eyes, who looked back at the girl before clenching her jaws.

Elliana was changing slowly.

Madeline didn’t know what it was, but the increasing confidence in her half-sister’s aura was starting to get on her nerves. And all of it was because she was the wife of the most dangerous vampire prince, and for some reason, that leech didn’t hate Elliana even when she was a human.

"I need to talk to you about your mother," Madeline said.

Elliana’s gaze visibly darkened at the mention of her name.

Now that she knew who her mother was, and how she was planning to kill her in a sacrifice, that word was the last thing Elliana wanted to hear.

Elliana could’ve denied Madeline since they weren’t related to her in any manner anymore, and after what Marla tried to do with her, she had cut her ties with them already. However, she wanted to see what this girl had to say, and thus, Elliana hummed before looking at Daniel.

She smiled subtly.

"I will see you around," Elliana said to him before she followed Madeline, her gaze void of emotion.

Daniel looked at the back of the leaving girl and didn’t know what to say.

"What are you looking at? How was your exam?" Alcinder asked Daniel, placing his hand on his shoulders as Drake and Dexter walked to them.

"I don’t know. Don’t you guys think that Elliana has been changing drastically? Like she is so different from how we met her and how she is these days," Daniel said, commenting on the part where rather than helping the human, Elliana stepped aside to let the girl fall.

Dexter, who recently found out about Elliana’s truth and hadn’t gotten the chance to talk to her, sighed.

"When the world is against you and wants to harm you, I think a part of you stops being good to everyone you see," Dexter commented, and Daniel hummed.

Maybe Dexter was right. Haven’t they seen how many times Elliana became a target of evil all because of other people around her?

"Anyways, can you teach me biochemistry? I was hoping to ask for Elliana’s help since the girl is practically a laboratory insect and knows the subject inside out, but she left with that human girl," Daniel asked Drake, and Dexter joined the group as they separated from the girls to study.

"Don’t you think the guys are a bit too serious this time?" Samantha asked Melony and Aarohi, who looked at the guys before shrugging.

"Don’t you know? The ceremony is soon and the king will be decided. Maybe they want to come in the good graces of the new king? They are already of age where they will start handling things with their father," Arohi said, and the other two girls nodded in agreement.

Meanwhile, Elliana, who was walking behind Madeline, paused when she noticed how Madeline was taking her to the forest.

"I think we are at enough distance to be able to talk," Elliana stopped, and Madeline turned to her before humming.

"I wanted to talk to you about the work we tried to give you earlier too. We need you to do it ASAP," Madeline said as if she was entitled and above Elliana.

While it had worked all the other times, this time Elliana only looked into Madeline’s eyes as if she was stepping over her boundaries.

She didn’t want to lose her control so easily.

"I think I made myself clear when I said I am cutting my ties with you all," Elliana said, her eyes still void of emotions.

Madeline scoffed, the disdain clear in her eyes.

"And just like that, you can do that? If cutting ties was so easy, we would’ve thrown you out long ago. No one wanted you in the palace, remember? Look, I know what mom did with you wasn’t good, but can you stop being over dramatic about it? Shit happens and people lose control when they are frustrated," Madeline said, dismissing the matter.

Elliana smiled.

’What you suffered in the human kingdom was all a plot of a witch. You are not their daughter or related to them in any way. You don’t need to suffer at their whims anymore,’ Elliana remembered Nathaniel’s words, and she scoffed.

She looked at Madeline for a brief second before smiling sinisterly.

"Well, in that case, sister Madeline, if by any chance I lose control right now and end up hurting you badly, very badly -" Elliana paused, stepping closer to Madeline, making the girl step back subconsciously, remembering how Elliana had slapped her last time.

"That would be excused in the name of losing control too, right? I mean, after all, we are family. Shit happens, and I am kind of frustrated too," Elliana grinned viciously before she grabbed Madeline’s hand and pulled her close, looking straight into the girl’s eyes.

"You are not my family, Madeline Heart. You, your mother, and your father, none of you are my family. I am done doing your dirty work. I made it very clear when I said I was cutting ties with you all. So don’t expect me to stay as calm as I am next time you come and tell me you have something to ask me about. Do you want a favor? Beg for it," Elliana said and was about to turn around starting to walk away when Madeline started speaking.

"If that’s true, then it would be alright if I come to the palace as your prince’s new wife, right? After all, the alliance was between the youngest prince of the vampire Kingdom and the daughter of the hunter bloodline to maintain peace and -"

Madeline couldn’t even complete her sentence when Elliana started laughing, her powers trying to take over her.

She laughed with her hand over her mouth to control her voice as she looked at Madeline, who looked back at her as if she had lost her mind.

"Geez, Madeline. You never listen, do you? Honestly, how do you do that?" Elliana asked before walking forward.

Madeline’s eyes widened when she looked at Elliana charging towards her and she turned around to run. However, her reaction was too slow, and it wasn’t long before Elliana held her hand and grabbed a fistful of her hair in her fist.

"Elliana! Leave my hair! Have you lost your mind?!" Madeline shouted angrily.

This Elliana, she didn’t know who she was? What happened to the girl who used to stay quiet and wait for their orders? Where did that girl go and from where did this girl arrive?

"You have surpassed all your limits, Madeline," Elliana’s voice turned cold as she twisted Madeline’s head, forcing her to look straight into her eyes.

"I knew you were dumb, Madeline. However, I didn’t know you would surpass cnidarians too," Elliana asked before smirking.

"Elliana, leave my fucking hair or I swear -" Madeline started, but Elliana only tightened her hold, making her wince in pain as tears brimmed her eyes.

’Teach her a lesson,’ Circe said inside her head and Elliana gulped.

"Don’t interrupt me when I am not done talking, Madeline. That’s basic etiquette. Then again, can I really expect any kind of manners from you, someone who only knows how to spread your legs for influential people?" Elliana looked at Madeline smugly.

"Don’t cross your line, Elliana!" Madeline felt humiliated.

She had never felt this helpless, and to say it was coming from the same girl they used to put under their foot. Could it be more humiliating than it was?

"Madeline, sweetheart, don’t interrupt me again and again. I might as well snap your neck and no one would know of it. Do you know why? Because I have been a harmless lamb for so long that no one would believe I turned into a Predatory Feline too. Anyways, as I was saying -" Elliana paused.

"What was I saying, Madeline?" Elliana asked, exerting more pressure on her scalp until the girl cried out in pain, making her smile.

"Yes, I remember. I was asking if you don’t ever learn things the easy way at all or not. I clearly warned you last time to never think that you can take my husband away from me. I mean, I slapped you to knock some senses into you. Could it be that it wasn’t enough to warn you?" Elliana asked, her eyes turning slightly blackish, and Madeline gulped, unsure if she was just seeing things or if it was happening.
