Chapter 429: She belonged to them, or was it the other way around now?
"Reinste Flamme," Elliana whispered, looking at her hands in anticipation.
She waited for a few seconds, patiently gazing at her fingers and their prints, hoping to see even the slightest glint.
However, nothing happened. She bit her lower lip before looking at Circe, her dejected face, making them sigh.
’Try again,’ They urged.
Elliana nodded at them.
"Reinste Flamme," she tried again, looking at her hands.
And just like that earlier time, nothing happened. Her brows scrunched in confusion, and she ruffled her hair frustratingly.
Was it because she was a dark witch and the purest form of flame wasn’t allowed to her? She wondered, feeling sad all of a sudden.
’This is strange,’ Circe whispered, and Elliana looked at them, closing the book and hiding it where she always kept it.
’Why is this strange? Shouldn’t it be already understood? We are a dark witch and not a light witch. Of course, we won’t be able to produce a pure flame. We are meant to be impure, aren’t we? Isn’t that why we are hated by the world? By Mr. Marino?’ Elliana said dejectedly.
She really wanted to see that blue-colored flame that she saw in the image, but unfortunately, life and fate weren’t fair.
Circe looked at their human counterpart, unsure about how to make her understand it. They never bothered with such explanations with anyone ever before.
However, they still wanted to give it a try, all because this time they weren’t inside a bad personality but in a good heart, or that’s what they believed their human was.
’You don’t understand how things work, do you, Princess Elliana? The dark and light witches aren’t separated by blood or some kind of darkness in their hearts, despite the misconception and hatred spread because they are usually no match for us.
Both the queens of the light and dark world are born from the same mother. It’s all about practices and the kind of sacrifices allowed in the spells. I assure you that I have seen the darkest hearts in the light witches that have left history surprised,’ Circe said before she sighed when Elliana’s expression didn’t change.
’It’s strange because even if it wasn’t a blue flame, some kind of flame should’ve appeared,’ Circe said.
Elliana looked at her hands that had no flame in them, a little hope rising in her heart.
"Is perhaps something wrong in the way I am chanting it? Can you correct me?" Elliana asked, and Circe looked at the girl, feeling at a loss for words.
How were they supposed to help her when they didn’t even know what it was all about? Circe cleared their throat and was about to answer her when they felt a weird aura around them, and Elliana turned towards the balcony with narrowed brows.
Standing in front of her was an unfamiliar man, who was looking at her with a soft expression.
Since he was here out of the blue, it was clear that he was a witch too, and the thought of having witches visiting her room just like that irked Elliana. It angered her.
Just because she was now identified as a part of the community, does that mean they won’t give her any privacy? What the actual heck?
"Who are you?" She immediately became alert, raising her hands in front of her, creating an invisible shield.
With all the witches coming to hurt her, it was better she started putting a shield on herself all the time.
The man in front of her smiled at her, genuinely amused.
"Princess, would you like to tell me what the hell are you doing? Do you even understand the consequences of what you are doing?" The man asked, a helpless smile on his face, and Elliana looked at him confused.
Circe told her that he wasn’t here to harm her, and Elliana immediately lowered her shield.
She looked the man up and down, trying to remember where the hell she had seen him before. Why was he looking so friendly?
"Don’t stress your mind too much. We haven’t met. I mean, directly of course," the man said.
"What are you here for?" She asked again.
Asking such random people who they were was completely useless now. It wasn’t like they would tell her the truth anyway.
"I am Pluto, Nathaniel’s best friend," The man in front of her said as if reading her mind, and Elliana furrowed her brows even more.
Nathaniel’s best friend? Why would he send his friend to her? Was it related to some kind of test?
"And? It still doesn’t define your purpose for being here. You do know where you are standing, right? And don’t you know you should never visit a girl’s room just like that?" Elliana asked, and Pluto smiled at her.
He liked the zeal inside her, the fire in her eyes. Maybe it was the reason Nathaniel didn’t take a second to fall for her and devote his entire life to protecting her.
"I am here because as a protector of nature, I am supposed to stop any witch who is performing irrelevant magic with bad practice. Since I could feel you were performing magic, I knew you were decent and that’s why I made my presence known," Pluto said.
"Bad practice?" Elliana asked, thinking about how Circe said it was strange that no flame appeared.
"Does that mean I was chanting it wrongly?" Elliana asked.
Pluto smiled. He chuckled before placing his hand on his face as if trying his best to control his laughter, and Elliana didn’t know what to do at the moment.
Was he crazy or something? She was sure she didn’t crack a joke.
"How can you be so cute and oblivious? Oh baby, no wonder Nathaniel keeps running to you every time he is down. Your jokes must keep him sane and happy. You have no idea, do you? Then again, I can’t blame you," Pluto said before he stepped closer to her, looking straight into her eyes.
"May I?" He asked, extending his hand to her.
Elliana didn’t know if it was all right to place her hand in his. The last time she did this, the dean was thrown away from his mouth bleeding terribly, and she didn’t need a repeat of those incidents.
"Don’t worry. I won’t end up like that dean," Pluto said, reading her mind once again, and Elliana narrowed her eyes at him.
"You are reading my mind," Elliana said.
Pluto smirked.
"You look surprised. Oh, did I not mention that my specialty lies in psychic powers?" Pluto asked, and Elliana rolled her eyes before she took a deep breath and placed her hand on his.
Thump!
Pluto felt the overbearing aura of her powers as soon as he tried to look into her mind for real. The impact was so loud that he was almost thrown backward if not for his powers stabilizing him immediately.
’Don’t for a second think that you can look into what we want and are doing just because you know how to use some childish psychic powers. The girl is ours, and we intend to keep her innocence,’ Elliana’s powers said, and Pluto smirked, his head throbbing with all the pressure they were trying to exert.
’You want to keep her innocence by hiding the truth from her? For how long? You and I both know that she can’t produce a blue flame and I don’t think I need to tell you the reason why she can’t,’ Pluto said to the powers who immediately started turning a dark color from their earlier pink.
Pluto smiled. It looks like he hit a nerve.
’Getting angry won’t take you anywhere. She is supposed to know the truth sooner or later. What are you waiting for? For her to lose her emotions too? She is following the path of Azrael. Can’t you fucking see that?’ Pluto roared in her head, and the powers growled back at him.
’Don’t fucking shout at us!’ The powers collected their magna and pushed him outside, making Pluto step back from Elliana.
Elliana opened her eyes and looked at Pluto, hoping to see nothing worse when he was ripped away.
She sighed in relief when he was standing without any injuries, or that’s what she thought.
"Is everything okay with me?" Elliana asked.
Pluto hummed.
"You are fine. It’s just your powers are a bit ..." Pluto paused before smiling.
"Mischievous. Don’t worry about anything. And this blue flame magic, don’t perform it. You won’t produce a blue flame," Pluto said, breaking Elliana’s hope in a second, and she looked down.
"Don’t be sad, little princess," Pluto said before he hooked his finger under her chin and lifted her head to meet his gaze.
"Rather, you will form a flame even more unique than that. I promise it will be the most beautiful thing you have ever seen. But you will have to work hard for it and keep your patience. You will do that, right?" Pluto asked, and Elliana nodded, making him smile as he ruffled her hair and was about to disappear when they both felt the familiar presence.
"Welcome, friend," Pluto said without turning around, knowing his friend must be seething, and Nathaniel didn’t disappoint him.
As soon as Pluto turned around, a punch landed on his face and Pluto fell backward on the bed, looking at his friend with an evil smile.
"You bastard! What did you tell her?!" Nathaniel roared, shocking Elliana, who wasn’t used to this side of his.
