Chapter 411: Will to live
In the Finance minister’s mansion, Dexter looked at his father with disbelief.
"Dad, you can’t do this to me. You both- what the hell are you doing?" Dexter said, trying to look at his mother, but she only looked away.
"What do you mean I can’t do anything to you? I can do anything to you as long as you are living with my blood pumping in your veins, and it’s my position that gets you through things," his father said and Dexter clenched his jaws.
"Does that mean, only when I will bleed every drop of blood I have will I be able to free myself from this humiliation?" Dexter asked, tears brimming his eyes and he quickly blinked away.
His father scoffed.
"So what we do is humiliating, but what you do is good work? Do you think I don’t know what you are doing outside? Roaming with the human girl? Have you lost your mind?" His father pulled out his wooden whip, and Dexter stepped back, his gaze shifting to his mother once again, hoping she would come ahead and save him.
But he was so wrong.
"I am studying in a co-ed University, father. It’s not like anything is going on between us. She is just my friend," Dexter tried to reason.
He didn’t know what to do at the moment. It was just a few minutes ago he found out his parents were cheating on each other, and rather than apologizing to him for what they were doing, they were blaming him.
He knew about his father and rebelled against him countless times for the dignity of his mother.
He thought his mother was being ruined, and she didn’t deserve all this. But she was involved too?
"Really? Let’s not get there. A man and a woman can never be friends. I am sure she is just waiting to spread her legs for you so she can have you wrapped even more," His father said and Dexter’s nose flared in anger.
"Dad! Not everyone around me is a wh*re!" Dexter spat, instantly regretting his words because he was indirectly calling his mother a wh*re too.
"Oh? Okay. Let’s believe that. She might be just a friend, but let’s talk about how you tried to ruin my image when you participated in that race in front of royals and then lost to a human," The finance minister snarled.
Dexter smiled.
It was obvious to him. His father didn’t really have a legitimate reason to beat him up, but he was trying to find excuses, which meant, no matter what he said or how he defended himself, he was going to beat him either way.
"Racing in front of the royals was far better than cheating on your spouses, opening your legs for other ministers, or plunging dick in whores because you couldn’t keep it inside," Dexter spat, disrespecting his mother and father at the same time.
He scoffed, closing his eyes. His father didn’t disappoint him.
It only took a mini second before he felt the swoosh of wind and the thick stick was slammed on the side of his hand, making him jerk in his place at the pain he felt.
Tears welled in his eyes, but he blinked them back. He closed his eyes, thinking about only one strong girl he knew around him. She has gone through worse than this, yet she never lost her control. Dexter chanted in his head, only thinking about her smile.
"How dare you speak like that to your father! Is this what that human girl is teaching you? Let me whip all the rowdiness from your body. It looks like since you haven’t been beaten for quite some time, you have forgotten your manners," The finance minister said.
Dexter didn’t say anything and took his whips one after the other.
"Honey! Stop! He is bleeding! You will kill him at this pace!" His mother finally shouted from behind somewhere as his head was becoming dizzy.
’I won’t let anyone take away my will to live. They can break my bones, but not my will to stay alive and be happy,’ He remembered Elliana saying to him with that happy smile, and he told himself the same thing.
"Die? To me, he is standing just fine," The minister said before he raised his hand and slapped him this time, making Dexter lose his balance and fall to the ground, coughing blood profusely.
The finance minister stopped. The red he was seeing earlier, started to subside when he saw his son coughing blood.
He felt a bit guilty. He just wanted to teach him, why did he lose his control? The finance minister gulped.
"Son, I didn’t mean to -"
"It’s okay, father. This won’t be the first time," Dexter said, remembering all the times his father lost control and beat him to a pulp whenever he was going through something.
He stood from his place, almost falling on the ground again before he stood, his body healing slowly because of the deep wooden wounds.
"I would prefer it if you stay away from that human," the finance minister said, remembering how his secretary told him that his son wasn’t just friends with her but was head over heels in love with her love.
He didn’t want his son to fall for a mere human bitch when he can have the strongest vampire girl and help him expand his business and power in the circle. After all, after him, Dexter has to handle everything.
"She is my friend, father. She is staying around me even if you would want to kill me," Dexter didn’t stay to hear his father’s response.

After putting Elliana to bed, Sebastian left to go to the royal Kingdom and report what happened on the seashore.
He didn’t want to return to the palace, especially today, after everything that happened there, but it was important to handle this matter more than his emotions which had been neglected for too long.
Besides, he didn’t want anyone consoling him when he had his princess by his side.
As soon as he left, Elliana decided to call Nathaniel to discuss the dream because she felt lonely and broken.
She pulled out her phone from her bag and was about to make the call when her phone rang in her hand and she quirked her brows at the caller ID.
"Hello?"
"Hey, beautiful," The person from the other side, slurred, and the crease between Elliana’s brows immediately evened as her eyes became soft.
"What is it?" She asked, looking at her fingernails and playing with her fingers.
"It’s... I know it’s out of character, and the time is off too, but can you come and meet me?" Dexter asked, his voice barely above a whisper and Elliana looked at the time.
"Dexter, I don’t think my guardian would allow me at this time, and if I got caught -" Elliana paused, taking a deep breath.
"Oh, it’s okay. I understand. It was stupid of me to call you at this time. I totally understand. You don’t need to sweat it. It’s cool," Dexter smiled in self-mockery.
Did he really think she could come whenever he wanted her to? His care was beyond him, but she made it clear countless times that she was in love with that prince.
Dexter scoffed at himself, and Elliana bit her lower lip.
She didn’t need a genius to tell her something was wrong with him or he wouldn’t act like this or call her at this time.
"You know what, wait for me at the bottom of the hill," Elliana said, making Dexter, who was about to end the call, raise his brows.
"Are you sure about it? I don’t want you to get into trouble because of me. What if your guardian -"
"I am coming, Dexter. You need me. I can feel it. And if you need me, I should be there to beat you up," Elliana whispered, and Dexter smiled, more tears welling in his eyes that he wiped furiously.
"T-thank you," he said, feeling emotional as he looked at his bloodied hands.
"There are things I need to get off of my chest too. You happen to call me at a very optimum time for that,". Elliana said before ending the call.
After quickly getting ready, Elliana searched through the ancient book to see if she could find any teleportation spell, and when she couldn’t decide if it was the right spell or not, she finally called Nathaniel.
"Hey, princess," Nathaniel said, his voice drowsy.
"Tell me how to perform a teleportation," She said, getting straight to the point.
Nathaniel, who had been looking through the spells of all the ancient books to prepare an army of witches who would help him against Queen Arizona after he confronted her, looked at Pluto, who immediately looked at him with raised brows.
"A teleportation spell? What do you need it for?" He asked, marking the book and closing it as he walked towards the balcony.
Elliana closed her eyes. Why did she need it? Probably she wanted to heal her heavy heart without anyone suspecting her. But more than that she didn’t want to waste any time traveling from one place to another.
She already messaged Glow to speed up the process of getting all the information. Not only that, she even asked all her connections in the Moon City and those humans that she helped sometimes.
She only had 9 days left if she didn’t count the ceremony day, and she needed to ensure that she sorted everything for her husband. After all, it would be her parting gift for him, complete information about Gambit and the poison for the rogue vampires.
"Because I don’t want to end up teleporting myself to hell. I would rather teleport myself to the racing court," Elliana said, and Nathaniel sighed.
It indeed made sense to him. Her powers were going haywire, and they were probably taking a toll on her too.
"Okay, I am coming," he said before ending the call.
Elliana looked at the phone before sighing.
’Nothing scares me anymore when it comes to you, Mr. Marino. Will you really not accept my love just because I am a dark witch?’ She hugged herself, closing her eyes to think about good things and keep her mind off of things.
