Chapter 410: An endless abyss of pain
"Princess! Princess!"
Elliana trembled in her place, and the spoon fell from her hands as she looked towards the large doors of the dining room with a scared look on her face.
Why was Mr. Marino shouting her name?
She was about to stand from her place when she felt a swoosh of wind, and before she could react to anything, she was swooped into his arms as he sat there with his face buried in her neck.
Elliana froze in her place, her mind going to her dream where she was attacked by all the princes and they plunged their fangs into her body.
Would he really do that when he hears she is a dark witch too? Elliana wondered, her hands clenching around Sebastian’s shirt while she made sure her mind barrier was up and he wouldn’t be able to read her mind.
"Mr. Marino -" She started, wanting to ask what happened, but Sebastian shushed her gently, snuggling his face further into her hair.
Elliana took a shaky breath when his hand traveled to her skin under the top.
"Leave us alone," He said, and everyone immediately walked out of the dining room, feeling the dangerous vibes their prince was oozing.
They didn’t need any genius to tell them that the prince had returned directly from the seashore and was feeling highly reactive and destructive at the moment, and the only reason he was risking it and hugging the princess was that he wanted his beast to calm down.
"Calm me, Princess. I don’t know how, but just calm me. Work your magic spell on me that always controls the demons inside me and -"
"M-magic spell?" Elliana stuttered, caught off-guard. What was he talking about?
"Yes, the spell that contains your care, your scent, your affection, just calms me," Sebastian whispered against her skin, and her lips formed a subtle smile as her raging heart relaxed a bit.
"Will you look into my eyes first?" She whispered softly.
Sebastian removed his face from her neck dejectedly before doing as she told him.
She cupped his mask in her hands, looking into his eyes that were turning back to the bright hazel color that she fell for.
"Did something happen?" Elliana asked even though she had a vague idea of what had happened.
"Some dark witch performed a spell that has been banned for centuries and killed an entire group of guards that I trained. One of their family members was a pregnant woman, a child who has now become an orphan because his only family member died, an old mother who died the moment she heard of his son’s demise, and a sister who slit her wrists just because the loan sharks would take her away and push her into a brothel if they didn’t pay the debt. We took her to the hospital but, she couldn’t make it," Sebastian said, focusing on her neck instead.
Elliana was kind of grateful for that.
She didn’t know if she would’ve been able to keep eye contact after hearing all this.
Was this the reason why everyone hates dark witches so much?
And if she was one of them, does that mean she would turn out to be one of them and find pleasure in hurting others?
"I am sure those family members look up to you and believe you will provide justice to them. Those guards were martyred on their duty. And I know it’s hard to digest, but sometimes in the animosity of rulers, the peasants are always killed. You are doing great handling their family. We all believe in you," Elliana whispered to him.
Sebastian lifted his gaze to her eyes and saw the tears welling in them, making him sigh.
His princess was such an empath. Just the thought of someone else being hurt made her emotional like this.
He didn’t want her to worry about what was happening in the kingdom, and neither did he want to make her cry, but he also wanted to make her a part of everything he was involved with.
Sebastian raised his hand and cupped her jaws, massaging her cheeks with his thumb.
"Don’t ever leave me, Princess. I only need you by my side to fight all the dark witches, all these dark battles, and even my family," Sebastian said before pulling her in for a hug.
Elliana wrapped her hands around his back, a few tears of helplessness falling from her eyes.
How was she supposed to tell him that though she was with him and he cared for her, her species made her his enemy too?
She closed her eyes, hugging him even tighter.
The feeling was weird. It was almost as if someone would take him away from her if she let go.
But if she kept holding on, she might end up piercing his heart with the thorns of her reality.
She didn’t want to see him hurt and love him with every ounce of emotion she had in her heart, soul, and body while running far away from him at the same time.
With his increasing hate for the dark witches, was she really ready to tell him the truth and have him hate her too?
Was she ready to tell him that the girl he made love to and was protecting and caring for was also one of those people who were his worst enemies? Was she ready to face his wrath and give him another scar for life?
Elliana whimpered softly, and Sebastian’s brows furrowed.
"Princess, you don’t need to worry about those families. I promise I will teach those dark witches a good lesson and show them a death worse than this. Please don’t cry," Sebastian said, and Elliana felt laughing at the mockery of her fate.
"I am sure you will. You surely will teach them a good lesson," Elliana whispered into her ears, tightening her hold around his neck now so she was almost pressing herself infinitely close to him.
"I am not sure if you have heard, but the ceremony has been preponed. The ceremony is after 10 days now," Sebastian said.
Elliana hummed.
"I heard," She whispered.
"I will be quite busy these days. Apart from the voting pool, the criteria are changed to finding information about a human rogue Gambit, and all his locations in the nation along with the information about the rogue vampires that we fought earlier," Sebastian deliberately said ’we’ even though he knew she was going to deny it.
However, to his surprise, she didn’t say anything.
"I understand," she whispered.
He didn’t like it. The way she was responding was as if she had no zeal or energy left inside her.
"Are you sad that I will be busy?" Sebastian asked, and Elliana smiled forcefully before shaking her head.
"Not at all. I am happy for you. The sooner you get the throne, the better. It’s just, that I wish I could help you somehow, but I have my exams this week too since the ceremony resulted in them being held early too. I will be busy studying for them," Elliana said.
"I see. Exams aren’t exactly your thing," Sebastian looked at her with an amused smile.
"Do I look like someone who would be interested in such boring things, Mr. Marino? The reason I love working in the laboratory is because it’s enticing," Elliana said, and Sebastian chuckled at the gleam in her eyes.
"And what else excites you, princess?" He asked, feeling mischievous around her again, and Elliana narrowed her eyes at him.
"I think that would be all," She said.
"Are you sure about it?" Sebastian kept massaging her cheeks and then without a warning, he pulled her in for a kiss.
He placed his lips on her gently, wanting to enjoy the feeling of her lips moving along with his, and Elliana sighed in the kiss.
She closed her eyes, pouring what she felt at the moment in that kiss.
What started with a soft lingering kiss to tease her, started changing its course as Elliana pulled him infinitely closer and kissed him passionately.
It was surprising for Sebastian.
This was probably one of those few times when his wife took control of the kisses. It was always him forcing it on her and dominating her whenever his mind went crazy with the taste of her sweetness.
"Princess, take it easy," Sebastian groaned when she bit his bottom lip in her anguish to show how frustrated she was with everything happening around them.
"I don’t want to," Elliana paused before pulling away, the tears from her eyes falling on his cheeks, making his heart melt immediately.
He didn’t know the news of what happened to those guards would affect her so much. Or was it something else that she was hiding from him? She indeed said she would tell him everything about herself after twenty-one days.
Could it be that she was sad by his words of killing all the dark witches? Were those dark witches her friends, and that was why she was feeling contemplated and frustrated?
Sebastian tried to look for the truth in her eyes, but all he could see was pain, and an endless abyss of pain, which shocked Sebastian.
"Princess, why are you so sad?" Sebastian asked.
"Because I have fallen for you, and I don’t know how to control it," she said, looking straight into his eyes, the longingness confused him.
"Stupid girl. Why would you control something that belongs to me?" Sebastian hugged her to calm her raging heart.
Elliana bit her bottom lips, clenching her eyes as she tried to control the sob that was itching to leave her mouth.
It almost felt like she was dying inside. How will she be able to leave him like this?
