Chapter 41: Failed mission
"Yes, sir?" Blue talked to her team leader as she walked further away from the spot where she was supposed to observe Elliana.
"How is your current mission going? Any progress so far?" The leader asked, and Blue pursed her lips.
Was she allowed to bad mouth the mission given by the prince? Was it okay to talk about it to her leader? They all were his subordinates, after all.
"You can say it, girl. I have done some petty missions myself," the leader encouraged her, and she walked out of the forest on the other side, leaning on a tree casually.
The princess has excellent senses, and she picks up every single noise whenever Blue is following her. So to talk to her leader over the call, Blue walked out of the area the moment she saw Elliana entering the forest again.
It’s not like there was anyone or any harmful animal in the forest that she should be afraid of. It won’t be a problem if she is left alone, right?
The princess just likes to pass the time and play with water from what Blue has noticed so far.
"It’s not good, sir. I feel like I am told to watch some kind of teen drama. There’s not much to do or report to anyone. The prince said that he wanted to observe her because the princess might talk to her human friends and devise some kind of plans, but so far, I don’t see anything," Blue sighed.
"I see. So what kind of character does this princess have? Maybe if I understand her, I can talk to the prince about letting you go. I feel this mission is just a misuse and waste of your excellent skills. You belong on the base, with us," the leader said, and Blue felt even more remorseful.
"I don’t know how to describe her. She is genuinely sweet. I haven’t seen her hurting a fly. From what I have heard her talking to her friends, she was bullied in her childhood at the human palace. Maybe it’s because she is an illegitimate kid?" Blue paused.
"Anyway, from what I can see, she is just a beautiful sweet doll who only knows to give to others selflessly. She is friendly to anyone and everyone who talks nicely to her. Boys are roaming around her because of her beauty. She is not worthy of the kind of suspicion the prince is putting on her," Blue said.
"Well, if that’s the case, let me see what I can do to get you out of there," the leader muttered.
"Anyway, the main reason I called you is because I wanted your input on the witch you saw that day. The one you met when you were returning from your mission in the west,"
"I don’t remember what you are talking about, sir," Blue’s expression immediately changed.
"But I clearly remember Blue. You said you saw a witch in the black cloak in that human kingdom near the hunter’s bloodline on the day of the prince’s wedding. You were there on the wedding day, and you said you saw a witch wearing complete black and watching the wedding mysteriously," the leader said, and Blue clenched her hand around the phone.
That witch in the black cloak. She was beyond mysterious. Yes, Blue saw her. She partially remembers it. However, every time she tries to think about that day and that witch, her memories fade a little.
Blue was sure that she had seen her face at that time, but one replay of the incident, and she forgot if she even saw a witch or ant random human female standing in black. It was a good thing that she had written the things she remembered in her diary. Though she doesn’t remember if she saw a witch, her diary says that she saw her, even if her presence was hazy.
"I don’t remember, sir. It’s you who are telling me I saw a witch. When I try to remember that day, I just see a black-dusty haze. It’s weird, and I know I might sound a bit crazy, but every time I think of that day, it becomes even more unclear," Blue said.
"Okay. I will convey this message to the team. Recently, the witch was seen in the kingdom. I don’t know if you heard of it since the news is certified and kept a secret, but the royals are involved this time," the leader said, and Blue sighed.
It wasn’t a piece of news to anyone that royals were trying their best to keep the youngest Prince down. It just doesn’t make sense how they are trying to put down one of their own.
He was the legal blood of the previous king, Leonardo.
Are they doing this just because they want to give the throne to the eldest grandson?
"They are really trying their best to keep our prince down," Blue said and was about to tell the leader to definitely talk to the prince about her reposting when she heard a male’s scream from inside the forest.
"What was that?" The leader asked, and Blue narrowed her eyes.
"I am not sure. It sounded like some human boy’s scream. Maybe they are having fun in the forest. I think I should head back to where the princess is. She has this weird addiction to running to the forests that are strangely peculiar," Blue murmured as she started walking back inside the forest towards the forest since she knew the princess must’ve gone there.
"Maybe she just tries to find solace with nature," the leader stayed on the phone as Blue strutted, feeling bored with her job of following a princess who is a regular teenager.
"How is everyone on the team doing? Do they miss their nagging friend?" Blue asked, and the leader chuckled at her choice of words.
"Why wouldn’t they? The team feels so quiet and peaceful without you,"
"Hey, that was mean. I only nagged when anyone deserved it. You are making it sound like I deliberately used to get into a pickle with others," Blue pouted.
"Aaaaahh!" Blue heard another scream, but this time it was clear that it was of someone in pain.
Even though it belonged to a boy, what if there is really something going on -
"You should hurry towards the princess," the leader said, and Blue nodded before she climbed a tree and started running towards the pond.
She had really drifted a bit too far away. If she didn’t have vampire hearing, she wouldn’t have probably heard the screams.
As soon as Blue neared the pond, the scene playing in front of her made her stop, and she gulped when she saw some boy drowning the princess in the water.
She was about to jump down and save the princess from this group of boys when she saw the princess getting up with such power and pushing the boy back into the water with an intensity that made her hair stand.
It was beyond her imagination. Blue gulped.
Even though she was a trained spy, she had never seen anyone fight in the water like this.
The princess literally lifted the boy and slammed him back into the water.
She then walked out of the water, making a loud splashing sound as she removed her hair from her face.
Blue looked at the other boy, who was unconscious, and a few boys, who were on the ground. Did the princess really do all of this alone? She widened her eyes.
Elliana looked both beautiful and dangerous at the same time. Blue didn’t know what to believe anymore.
Should she believe the girl who could never even hurt a fly without crying about it and was always so sweet, or should she believe this ethereal beauty who looked like a goddess in rage?
"What is happening?" The leader asked, and Blue realized she was still over the call.
"Someone was trying to drown the princess -"
"What the hell are you doing talking over the call then? Go save her!" The leader roared and urged, and Blue sighed.
"The princess is already fighting back," Blue saw the princess walking to the remaining boys from some distance and jumped down from the tree to rush to the site when she saw that previous boy sneaking up on her. However, before reaching a 500m distance, she noticed the council’s head’s son saving Elliana.
Blue looked at the scene and gulped. She failed in her mission. The one time she left the princess away, her life was risked like this. She would’ve to report everything to the prince. It’s her job.
But the question was, what would he do when he heard about this? Blue gritted her teeth before hiding behind the tree. She was sure the council’s head’s son would handle everything now.
"What’s going on here?" His voice was low, but it was enough to send shivers to the humans, and Elliana clenched her hands.
She didn’t want anyone to look at her in a situation and condition like this, much less a person who already disliked her. Her dress was beyond dirty and sticking to her body like a second skin now, and her hair was gone and sticking to her ugly.
Alcinder’s hand was still gripping that of Carl, and without giving a warning, he twisted all the way to his shoulders, and Carl’s screams echoed in the forest before he passed out because of pain.
"Are you guys waiting for the same to happen to you?" Alcinder didn’t need to turn around to show his power and how serious he was. His cold voice was enough, and the boys stepped back before they ran away in fear.
After a few seconds passed and Alcinder ensured his fangs were nowhere near visible, he turned around to look at the girl, who was drenched from head to toe and looked like she had a good fight with the guys.
"You are surely a troublemaker, no?" He sighed before ruffling his hair, unsure about what to do.
When he entered the forest to find some solace from Samantha’s pestering, he hadn’t thought he would get to see a scene like this.
He gazed at the girl when he saw her move, and his pupils dilated when he noticed she was running behind those boys.
What the hell? Is she out of her mind?
