Chapter 406: The creatures of the dark

In the Southern Regions 1 hour ago ~

"Sir, the tides are awful today," the guard who was guarding the check post walked to his group of people to drink something hot.

It was especially chilly near the ocean at this time of the year, not to mention the sun had already set, making it colder.

"I know, right? It’s suspicious. Then again, aren’t many things happening in the vampire kingdom suspicious?" One of the high commands said, and his friend who was drinking wine to stay awake, narrowed his brows.

"What do you mean? What is happening in the vampire kingdom? Is there something that I don’t know about?" He asked, and the high command sighed.

"Where do you live? I am talking about weather conditions. Don’t you think it’s pretty weird that these days the clouds and thunderclaps appear out of nowhere and make it rain? This part of the country isn’t known for that much rain for the entire year that we have received in 2 months, that to be off-season," the high command said, and his friend nodded.

"That I noticed too. Honestly, don’t let the higher authorities hear that I said things like this, but don’t you think that it happened after our prince married that human girl? What’s her name?"

"Princess Elliana?" one of the men said.

"Yes, her. Don’t you think all these weather problems are occurring right after marriage?" The friend slurred, and the high command placed his hand on his mouth before pushing him away.

"Have you gone mad? She is just a human. What can an innocent human do? Don’t you ever dare say anything about her -"

"Why are you stopping me? It’s the truth. My grandma used to say. Some people bring bad omens wherever they go. I think she is possessed by some witch who -"

"Shut it," Brent said to his friend.

"Haven’t you heard about it already? She is the one who saved our high authorities leader Duke’s son Lucas when he was surrounded by the rogue vampires, those vampires’ blood-sucking ones. How can you call a girl who saves lives a bad omen?" Brent said, and everyone’s eyes widened.

"So she was confirmed?" They asked, waiting for their leader to explain, and the high command rolled his eyes.

"Good job spreading more rumors about it. Wasn’t everyone who joined the mission asked to not speak anything about it?" The high command said, and everyone sighed when they realized they weren’t getting any more information.

As they dispersed after taking their drinks, the high command who was going back to the seashore for his routine patrol, narrowed his eyes when he saw something shining behind the large rocks near the shore.

"Leo, come with me. I think there is someone behind the large rocks again. Don’t they know it’s prohibited to roam the shore without a permit? These teenagers seriously! I swear if it were another couple, I would whip their naked asses today," The high command snarled, and everyone chuckled at their boss.

This wasn’t a rare occurrence. They get such couples more than 5 times in any regular month.

Even when everyone has been clearly warned that the skinwalkers and sirens usually appear on the shore from time to time, these teenagers who are always up for some adventure never stop and find it intriguing to have s*x in the open like this.

"Boss, wait up. I am coming too," Issac rushed to the high command with his torch, and they started walking towards the large rocks that led to the Mora caves.

"Be careful. It can be skinwalkers too. They might try to attack us," the high command warned as they neared the rocks from where something shiny flashed again.

The high command paused.

This wasn’t right. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Whoever this person was, if they were the teenagers who were here for fun, they would never flash the light to the guards and invite them.

If this person was a skinwalker or siren, they wouldn’t want to get the guards’ attention either because they very well know the sea shores are heavily guarded during the night time.

Who else could it be? The high command started walking again.

The light shone again, and the high command stopped when he sensed a weird vibe and aura engulfing him, pressuring his heart to beat faster.

"Issac, Leo, let’s not check," the high command ordered, holding their hands so they didn’t walk ahead.

"But sir, didn’t you say that we should teach them a lesson? They are even mocking us by flashing the light in our faces just to tell us where they are," Issac said, and the high command gulped, his hand clutching his shirt over his heart.

"Elumna scent," the high command fell on his knees, gasping for air.

"Everyone leave!" The high command roared, using all the energy he could before he collapsed on the ground.

Issac and Leo looked at each other in shock.

They turned around, ready to run and warn everyone who was far away patrolling other regions, but before they could even move a limb, they heard a loud screeching sound, making them stop dead in their tracks.

"W-what the hell is this?" Issac shouted in agony before he fell just at the intensity of the black clouds forming around the creature in front of them.

"Is... is it were-glawackus?" Leo asked, seeing everyone running towards them in horror.

"No! Don’t come here! Go back! Please! Don’t come to save us!" Leo shouted, tears brimming his eyes at the thought of never being able to see his family again.

His wife was about to give birth to his newborn after they had been trying for 3 years. How unfortunate it was for him to not even be able to see his child’s face.

Leo hissed in pain as the scent started to engulf him too. He saw the creature turning its head at 180° without even turning around and the more they saw, the more sure they were that they were going to be sacrificed.

"It- it’s a hybrid soul. The work of a -" Issac couldn’t complete his sentence when the creature’s hand elongated and pulled out Isaac’s heart, making Leo scream.

"Everyone run away!" Leo growled one last time before his heart was pulled out too, his dead body falling on the ground.

The creature didn’t even move from its place, or that’s what it looked like to them until they saw four more creatures walking out of the ocean, the water dripping down their bodies as their bodies flashed with light.
