Chapter 405: Abyss

Sebastian walked inside the palace with the princess in his arms and everyone who read Ambrose’s message that their prince was going haywire today because he was missing her, smiled inadvertently.

They bowed in respect, not daring to lift their heads. They couldn’t show the prince their smiles which would surely cause them some trouble if he found out about the group and what they talked about in that group.

"Mmmm," Elliana moaned in discomfort, and Sebastian instinctively pulled her close to his chest to cradle her even more as she slept in his arms.

"Sir, will the princess have some snacks or dinner or have you fed her outside?" Miss Zoya’s words stopped him.

Sebastian noticed the chef who was peeking from behind the dining room’s gates.

Just one gaze and he knew the chef wanted the princess to eat what he prepared today.

Sebastian sighed.

That’s what this girl was doing to him. Though he never mistreated anyone working for him, he wasn’t so thoughtful about everyone’s emotions either.

"I will bring her downstairs once she wakes up," Sebastian said to no one in particular and went straight to their room.

Once inside the room, he gently placed her in the middle of the bed with a soft smile.

"Stupid girl," he whispered before kissing her forehead and tucking her hair behind her ears.

He walked to his closet and brought out his clothes to have a quick shower when he heard his princess speak.

"Mr. Marino, I won’t let you get hurt," Elliana whispered out of the blue, making Sebastian narrow his eyes.

Was she having some bad dreams again? It was quite a long time since she had one. He walked to her and was about to caress her hair when his phone vibrated in his pocket.

Sebastian fished out his phone and looked at the caller ID.

"What is it?" He asked, looking at his wife’s innocent face, brushing her cheeks with his knuckles.

She was really as soft as flower petals. Sebastian thought before concentrating his mind on the person on the other side.

"Sir, in the southern regions, ten of our guards are found dead. The cause of their death is unknown but all of them have one thing in common," The subordinate gulped, and Sebastian’s eyes narrowed.

"What?"

"All of them have their hearts missing, sir," The subordinate paused.

Sebastian’s knuckles on his wife’s cheeks paused.

"Any struggle signs?" Sebastian asked.

"That’s the most mysterious thing, sir. Apart from their heart being missing, there is not even a single scratch on their bodies. What should we do? We have already informed sir Lucas, but he said to consult you directly regarding this matter," The subordinate asked, and Sebastian looked at his woman before sighing.

"Wait for me. Send the location to Lucas and Ambrose too. We are coming," he said before ending the call.

"Sleep tight, Cara," Sebastian kissed her forehead before wearing his overcoat once again.

He used his vampire speed to reach the ground floor before looking at the caretaker.

"I have some urgent work to do. She might wake up soon. Make sure she eats something and drinks some milk before she goes back to sleep again," Sebastian gave the instructions hurriedly before leaving the mansion where Lucas and Ambrose were already waiting for him.

"Sir," Lucas said.

"Let’s not waste any time. We might find some clues if we go there soon. The evidence might get wiped up on the shore if the tides picked their pace," Sebastian ordered and they rushed to the car.

Lucas nodded at Ambrose in a silent agreement and the latter nodded back.

Sebastian closed his eyes, thinking about all the things that the subordinate said, trying to connect the events with anything he had seen in the files of the tragic event reports.

Was there any such case before? The missing heart was similar to almost 70% of cases since vampires have always loved blood and destruction, but no wounds on their bodies. No struggle signs?

How was it possible?

Could it be that those guards were sedated first and then their hearts were pulled out? The chances of the case relating to the rogue vampires were really high, but nothing was sure.

"Lucas, what batch did this group of guards belong to?" Sebastian asked without opening his eyes.

Lucas, who was asked such a sudden question, the question that he should’ve known the answer to, gulped. How could he have made such a small mistake? How could he forget to ask about the batch and group number?

"How is it possible that 10 guards of our group were abducted, and their team member didn’t report it to the authorities? Was it the entire group?" Sebastian asked again.

Lucas hurriedly typed the message to the man who informed him about everything to know about what group it was.

Ambrose looked at Lucas from the corner of his eyes and immediately understood what kind of blunder he had created.

"You didn’t ask," Sebastian said after a dragging silence.

"I am sorry, sir. It slipped my -" Lucas started before he received the reply from the man, and he sighed in relief.

"It’s the 13th group of Grey Belt batch 2009," Lucas said, and Sebastian opened his eyes.

"What did you say?" He asked again, hoping that it wasn’t the same group that he was thinking.

"13th group of Grey Belt batch 2009," Lucas whispered softly, remembering why his prince was so sensitive with this batch.

It was one of the best warriors of that year. The prince had especially given them all the medals himself. One of the members of the group was his favorite and the closest warrior in the entire batch.

Why? Because he reminded their prince of his elder sister, the only person who used to make an effort to understand him.

Abyss. That was what his parents had named him to make him feel proud of himself because he could do what others couldn’t.

Abyss was mute, but he never treated his disability or took advantage of it.

Everyone saw him working 18 hours a day just so he could keep up with his batch mates. There were times when he saw other members bullying him, but he never complained about anything. He never let the authorities interfere either.

Rather he had focussed his entire strength and anger in becoming strong so he could take down his bullies himself.

That’s how he resembled him.

Just like his entire life has been spent in training and working hard to take down everyone who once bullied him, it was the same for their prince too.

Sebastian sighed, looking at his phone, his fingers itching to call Stephano and inquire about what was going on in the southern regions, but what were the chances that he would tell him anything? They always kept all the information hidden from him.

’You are my idol, sir. I want to become like you,’ That’s what the boy had written to him in an appreciation post after their training was completed.

The vibrant smile he had, the determination he had to prove to the world that he wasn’t disabled was -

Sebastian’s hands clenched around the armrest as he looked out of the window.

As selfish as it sounded, and as a leader, he knew he shouldn’t be having favorites, for some reason, he hoped Abyss wasn’t a part of the people who died.

He hoped he was that 11th, and the only member who probably survived.
