Chapter 329: Burn the leaf

"Do you think everything would go according to you, student Elliana? I am sure Prince Nathaniel told you that you would be summoned as soon as you were free, and no one would be around you," The witch teacher said.
Elliana felt a bit scared.
Without Nathaniel, everything looks out of her control, and she always gets into trouble.
"Let me introduce myself to you. I am Daisy Lin. You will call me Teacher Lin. I will be helping you increase your focus and control over your powers. Since I already know your name, I don’t think any more introductions are needed. We are running short on time already," teacher Lin said.
Something told Elliana that this first session of hers would be quite memorable and hard for her.
The lady in front of her, Teacher Lin, looked a bit too unyielding, and one of those strict teachers who doesn’t shy away from using the sticks on their students when they don’t do anything right even after telling.
Elliana followed the teacher out of the office and towards what looked like a created artificial seminar room.
She saw around thirty students already training. Unlike what she had guessed, the students were practicing martial arts.
A small breath of relief left her mouth. Martial arts were easy for her. She has been training herself for quite a few years.
"Go to that tree and pick that leaf," The teacher ordered.
Elliana looked at the Ashoka tree in the middle of the ground and nodded. She went and picked the only leaf on the ground before bringing it to the teacher.
"Here," Elliana whispered with a soft smile, but her smile faltered when her gaze met with the teacher’s neutral and hard eyes.
"Burn it," Teacher Lin said.
"Brennen," Elliana whispered, remembering the word from the manual Nathaniel had given her and asked to learn these simple chanting spells.
As soon as Elliana whispered the word, the leaf burnt, not even leaving the ashes behind.
Elliana’s eyes beamed, and she smiled in triumph again, looking up to Teacher Lin, who had the same unbothered expression on her face. Elliana’s smile faltered once again. She looked at her hands awkwardly before flexing and dusting them.
"Go and pick another leaf," she ordered.
Elliana was confused, but she did as she was told.
"Burn this leaf again. This time make sure the soot and ashes remain in your hands," teacher Lin said.
Elliana nodded.
"Brennen," Elliana whispered, and the leaf burnt again without leaving any soot, making Elliana look at the teacher uneasily, who scoffed with a hint of mockery.
"Go and repeat this process until the burnt leaf finally leaves ashes behind. Concentrate on your powers and try to control the amount of energy you are using. Every time you pluck a leaf and burn it and don’t have any ashes, run a lap across this seminar room as punishment. You won’t stop until you finally learn to control the intensity of your spell," The teacher said, and Elliana looked at others, who scoffed at her, making her look down in shame.
Everyone was allowed to practice martial arts, but she was the only one who was asked to do this. It almost felt like the teacher was picking on her because she was different from others.
"I am sorry, but I won’t be able to run. My leg is wounded and -"
"And I don’t see why that’s my problem. There are many people with amputations, but that doesn’t stop them from doing stuff. Stop acting like you are a special case just because a prince brought you here," Teacher Lin cut her off mid-sentence, and Elliana felt even more ashamed when the teacher raised her voice at her.
She nearly shook and nodded, hurrying towards the tree, falling in the process, and making everyone snigger at her. She felt beyond humiliated.
Elliana quickly got up, wiping her hands on her dress before plucking a leaf.
She took a deep breath. ’Concentrate your powers, Elliana. Control the intensity,’ Elliana whispered to herself, blocking all the noises around her.
She tried. She failed.
And just like teacher Lin asked her, she started walking around the seminar room with her hurt leg.
Tears brimmed in her eyes, but she refused to shed them. She wasn’t a weak girl who would cry just with a little pain. She has gone through things worse than this.
Elliana nodded to herself before she took a deep shaky breath when the pain started intensifying.
’Circe, give me strength,’ Elliana whispered, remembering Nathaniel’s words about them being the only ones who would help her when she needed someone’s support.
’Always,’ her powers whispered to her, smiling at the girl, who was working so hard.
Teacher Lin looked at the girl who was now increasing her speed as she walked around the seminar room.
She took a whiff of her herbal smoke and observed the so-called new student. The Dean’s points that he mentioned were true.
The girl has no control over her emotions and powers. She can do long-term and vast-range damage but has no idea how to focus on a single point.
Teacher Lin scoffed before closing her eyes, knowing all too well the students would call her if something grave happened.
Elliana tried to burn the leaf and lessen the intensity once again but failed terribly.
As Elliana continued running, failing with each attempt, her wounds started to become weary, and her skin that had been healing started tearing up. She sat on the ground near the Ashoka tree and looked at her leg which was swelling now.
Elliana looked in the direction of Teacher Lin, who was already looking at her with a disgusted glare. Her eyes quivered at the dislike and displeasure in her teacher’s eyes for her.
It was useless. These people would never understand her pain or even try to. Things were always like that. The first thing she receives anywhere she goes has to be hatred and suspicion. It has always been the case for her.
Elliana smiled bitterly before she took deep breaths to calm her raging heart and burning lungs.
She tried to stand on her tiptoes to grab the leaf, but before she could raise her hand, someone plucked the leaf and slammed it on her hand.
"I told you this place isn’t for you. What are you trying to prove? That you are good? That you can handle everything with your goodness? Come out of your delulu world and look in front of you, look at your legs," Caesar scoffed.
Elliana remembered him being the same person who had drenched her in the rain of sorrows and sighed.
"Thank you," She said, rather than revoking his words.
Ceasar didn’t like the fake ’good girl’ pretense she had and rolled his eyes. Well, she would break sooner or later anyway. He shrugged.
She closed her eyes, her legs burning with pain.
"Brennen," she whispered before opening her eyes again.
Nothing.
There was nothing on her hand, and a helpless tear slipped down her cheeks.
She turned to the corner of the seminar room to start running as the punishment.
A whimper left her mouth when she lost her balance and fell on her butt, hurting her tailbone again.
She felt helpless. She felt hopeless.
’Mr. Marino,’ a whisper left her mouth, remembering the only person, who could ease the pain in her heart.
She brought her legs closed to her chest and placed her head on her knees to calm her raging heart. Her heart was screaming at her for being so useless and her emotions were becoming angry because she was being treated so differently.
Ceasar looked at the girl, whose legs were starting to bleed, and looked at Teacher Lin, who was sitting there indifferently.
Well, if a teacher wasn’t bothering with her, why should he? He shrugged.
However, as soon as he started walking away, he felt an otherworldly presence in the room, and his gaze shifted to the entrance of the seminar room where the top five witches of all the elements were standing.
His eyes widened. This was the first time the witch heads were invited to the University.
Kadakali, Karizana, Jalizana, Prakrith, and Vanazana, looked at the girl who was sitting in the corner, feeling so helpless.
They have been watching over this girl for so long that seeing her sad like this only pinched their heart painfully.
"Is this how a teacher is supposed to teach?" Nathaniel walked from behind them, and Teacher Lin immediately stood from her place when she realized who had arrived.
"Prince Nathaniel, you can’t interfere with the study session like this. You and I both know that we have to be strict with her to make her learn things," Teacher Lin glared at the prince, and Nathaniel sat in her earlier seat.
"But did you teach her how exactly she should be concentrating her powers and reducing her intensity?" Nathaniel asked.
"This is something every fifth-grade student already knows. What is there to -" Teacher Lin paused.
Right.
How could she forget that this girl didn’t know anything about the witch world, that she lost her memories of it, and it was written in her form to teach her everything from the basics?
"I guess, you didn’t," Nathaniel looked at the five witches.
"You wanted to see her. You did. Now go and do your work," the prince said, his words loud and clear, and Ceasar looked at the girl who was still rocking herself.
What was so special about this girl that everyone was talking about her and made her a sensation from the moment she arrived?
It looks like he would have to keep a keen look on her, alas she gives him a good competition in the upcoming grade annual contest.
There is no way he would let anyone win against him.
