Chapter 278: The truth of Arizona’s lies (End)
They sat in the room, facing each other, not saying anything as both of them needed time to comprehend things and get a good of their emotions.
Nathaniel’s heart was still beating fast, his emotions tearing him piece by piece.
Arizona took a deep breath and started the tale of the past.
"Elliana’s mom, she was a powerful dark witch. When she was in her last trimester, her powers were overtaking Elliana’s weak body. The pregnancy shouldn’t have happened in the first place. But I can see where Eros came from. He wanted a kid he could keep by his side, not someone -"
"Not someone he will have to send away again because the world wouldn’t accept him," Nathaniel completed her sentence, and Arizona gulped, not adding anything anymore.
"When the nanny told Eros that the baby would never be able to survive and they should kill her using their magic, Eros was broken. I had never seen him cry like I saw that day, and no matter what happened with me, I loved him with everything I had and still have," Arizona stood from her place before she went to the almirah and pulled out the agreement.
She placed the agreement in front of Nathaniel.
"I was always supposed to be his wife. But my mother never agreed for me to marry the lord of the dark witches. She denied it and made me sign this agreement or she would’ve killed herself. I had to do it, but even after that, I couldn’t bury my feelings for him," Arizona took a deep breath and walked to Nathaniel, sitting beside him as she
"Eros asked me to help him with the task and do anything and everything I could to save Elliana. When he gave up his life and his powers for the baby, he had never thought that she would be born still. There was a slight chance, but we were hoping for the best," Arizona took out another set of documents and placed it in front of Nathaniel.
"These are the agreements we made, and the promises that I am still keeping. You wanted to know why I am making Elliana’s life hell when I am not even her mother, right? Here are your reasons," Arizona opened the file, and Nathaniel read all the old manuscripts that were written in the familiar writing he knew.
"We had already talked to the queen of the sirens who was on the verge of death. She had come to us seeking help. Her family members were trying to steal her energies and giving her poison. When she found out about the poison, it was already too late, and the only thing she could do was not let her powers enter the wrong hands. That’s why when she came to us, we thought of this plan," Arizona said, and Nathaniel’s brows were raised.
"So you locked the powers in Elliana? Even after knowing her delicate body won’t be able to handle it?" Nathaniel asked.
"That was the cost of letting her live. It’s because of those siren powers that she got to live. Elliana, her soul had left her body, and it was the queen’s siren powers only that called it back. It’s a process that is a secret only to the chosen one.
The queen was the chosen one, and because of that, she became the target of her family. She called Elliana’s soul back and locked her powers into it with a ten-lock system. Only the power of true love can actually unlock it one by one," Arizona said, and Nathaniel heaved a sigh of relief.
It was a good thing. So far they haven’t met anyone who loves Elliana like the one needed for this unlocking ceremony. The first lock that got unlocked, might just be because Elliana has started to develop feelings for that vampire prince, which makes it even more important for them to separate them.
Nathaniel thought.
"However, the king’s energies, Elliana’s own energies shared with her mom, and the siren’s powers were too much and the soul that the queen called, started drifting off within two minutes of the queen’s death. That was the time when we had to use the last resort we had kept for the worst-case scenario. The sacrifice," Arizona said.
"The sacrifice that brought her back to life," Nathaniel said, and Arizona hummed.
"We had to get a human baby for this purpose. The human baby was none other than King James’ illegitimate daughter. That lady Galicia didn’t know what to do with her child. She was in depression and wanted to kill her child because of the lack of money and resources. At that time we proposed her the deal. Strangely she said she would let us sacrifice her daughter, but there was a condition,"
"A condition?" Nathaniel asked.
"Yes. She wanted us to send Elliana to the human kingdom when she was five so that the hunter bloodline would also never be able to live freely and tension-free. She wanted it to be like a slap on Marla’s face. That’s the reason, I let Elliana suffer in that kingdom for so long. Her marrying with the prince was never in the plans, but I am a mom, Nathaniel. I can see my daughter is happy there.
I know you will never consider me her mom after knowing the truth, but it won’t change the fact that I lived for her for eighteen years and will still fulfill my promise," Arizona said.
"You know what happened after the sacrifice. She was kind of brought back to life after she was bathed in the human baby’s blood. That was the first time you held her in your hands and kissed her forehead, remember?" Arizona asked, and Nathaniel gulped.
How could he forget it? That day when he had seen her blink her big amber eyes at him as she was pulled out of the blood. How could he forget how his heart had skipped a beat even when he was barely six?
How could he forget how he had devoted his entire life to her?
"Why?" Nathaniel asked, and Arizona knew what he was talking about.
"I didn’t want to tell you the truth because I wanted you to take care of Elliana like she was your own, and not know the truth either. Because I wanted you to keep the dark energies away from her. You were the only one I could trust," Arizona placed her hand on Nathaniel’s hands, and a tear slid down from his eyes.
"And that’s why you kept telling me a lie that is as nasty as this? How could you tell me that I was engaged to Elliana when we are half-siblings?" Nathaniel asked, his heart aching terribly as he felt his heart breaking into tiny pieces.
"How could you hide that my father gave up his life for the girl that I am trying to protect? I was the child dad couldn’t keep in the kingdom and you took my responsibility, and then Elliana was the kid her mother couldn’t handle and you took the responsibility again?" Nathaniel asked.
No amount of words would heal the wounds Arizona gave him today.
It was as if his eighteen years of life were called a lie. He was living in a lie, loving and desiring a girl that was not even meant to be his. Nathaniel closed his eyes, placing his hand on his mouth to control the sobs that were itching to come out.
"How could you do this to me!" Nathaniel roared, the entire mountain shaking because of his rage.
He wiped his cheeks forcefully before looking at Arizona.
"Who among the dark witches is her mother? Who is my father’s second wife?" Nathaniel asked.
"I won’t tell you that," Arizona turned around.
Nathaniel gritted his teeth at her response.
"I can do the DNA test," he said.
"There’s nothing like DNA test in witches,"
Arizona looked at him.
"Oh, there isn’t, but I am sure I can take Elliana to the dark witches and do a magic test. There has to be a few strands of her mother’s magic embedded inside her," Nathaniel asked.
"You won’t do that,"
"Why not? She is not my lover, Arizona," Nathaniel said.
"It looks like you won’t be answering me. I don’t have any obligation to listen to you after what you did to me. I hope you stay happy with whatever twisted ideas you had to protect your lover’s kids," Nathaniel said and was about to vanish in anger when Arizona held his hand.
"Azura. It’s Azura. She is her mother,"
