Chapter 277: The Truth of Arizona’s lies (Part-1)
"You are a liar," Nathaniel stood, shaking his head in denial.
Arizona looked at the man in front of her, whom she always treated like her son and turned around, not being able to look at his condition anymore.
In this game of protecting that girl and keeping Elliana to herself, everyone got hurt. Some got hurt a little less, and some got more.
Nathaniel was one of them. The only issue was- that he lost something even more precious than Arizona could imagine and couldn’t share the pain of it.
"Ho.. how is that possible?" Nathaniel asked, wanting to hear the so-called truth from Arizona so that he could rectify things himself in the future.
There was no way he would take only her word for it when she had been doing nothing but lying to him his entire life.
Arizona opened the window to let the cold air enter her cabin, wanting to mask her tears in this coldness.
She closed her eyes and fisted her hands before she extended her hand in the air and circled it towards the ceiling.
As soon as she stopped, a white sheet appeared right in front of Nathaniel, and he looked at her.
This... she really dared to do it.
Arizona was being too cruel. How could she do this to him? She hid such an essential truth about his life from him, and now she didn’t even want to leave the benefit of the doubt to him.
She wasn’t willing to speak earlier, but now she was ready to drop the bomb on him like this.
"I know it’s cruel of me. I should prepare you by telling you the truth and then making you watch these clips, but I don’t want you to have any doubt after this. If I am doing it, I want to do it properly. If you are going to get hurt, then be hurt once and for all," Arizona whispered before she clicked her fingers.
Nathaniel looked at the screen, his heart beating at a pace he didn’t know was possible as he felt it pound in his ears. Blood rushed to his face as he felt anxious as soon as the images started appearing.
~~~~~
A lady dressed in a beautiful golden gown was laughing in some kind of mustard field as she ran around, giggling like the happiest person in the world. Her long brown hair flailed as she moved around, touching the long plants with her fingers, giggling and laughing.
"My darling, slow down. You will fall. You seriously know how to keep me on my toes, don’t you?" The man’s voice reached Nathaniel’s head, and he held the corner of the table to get a grip of himself, his hands trembling and eyes welling with tears.
It’s been such a long time since he heard this man’s voice.
Arizona looked at the man and sighed before clicking her fingers.
"I won’t fall, dear hubby. I know you will always protect me. You always do, Eros," The lady smiled.
The face of the lady wasn’t visible, but the protruding bulging belly she had was definitely noticeable. The lady was almost due with her date.
Nathaniel looked at Arizona for answers, hoping she would explain the clip and who this lady with King Eros was, but rather than answering him, she clicked her fingers again.
The scene changed to that of a palace. It didn’t look like a magical realm. It was a normal palace.
This time, the lady was lying on the bed with her eyes closed and brows knitted, her face contorted in uneasiness and pain. The king looked at the nanny and the caretaker with a concerned expression.
She was wearing the same dress.
Did she fall? Why was she in so much pain? Nathaniel looked at her hand which was constantly rubbing her belly as if trying to ease the pain in her abdomen.
"Please tell me this is not real. How can this happen? I lost my child to the world once. Tell me this is not the truth," the king said, his fatherly emotions dripping from his words as he looked at the nanny to hear hopeful words.
Nathaniel’s heart pricked at the king’s choice of words. ’I lost my child to the world once,’ It echoed in his mind again and again before he concentrated on the scene in front of him.
"We are not lying, sir. I was the one who had your first child delivered. She...this child won’t be alive for long. The powers inside her will kill her. The child is too weak," the nanny said, and the king walked to the lady on the bed.
"She will survive, right? I can’t bear to lose my queen once again. Please tell me there is a way," The king said, his face telling how painful it was for him to think that his child would have to be sacrificed. The child they all were looking forward to.
"I am sorry, King Eros. I won’t give you useless hopes only to break them at the crucial stage. It depends on how she will take the news," the nanny said before walking out.
The scene changed again, and this time, it was the garden of the palace.
The king was facing the rose garden with a neutral expression while some other lady stood beside him.
This time also, the face of the lady wasn’t visible, and Nathaniel tried to look at her features, trying to see if he could find something from it. However, the more he concentrated, the more blurred her figure became.
It was probably because these were supposed to be faded memories?
"So this is it?" The lady asked. Her voice was almost similar to the lady in the field. Does it mean they were the same person?
"Can I trust you to take care of my child? I will give up my powers to my child. I can’t let my wife die, and I would die every day with the thought that I could do something to save my child, but I didn’t. This is an ancient method that I found in the forbidden books," the king said.
"Forbidden book? You were reading them? Don’t you know that even reading them without a proper spell is a sin? How can you do this to me?" The lady shouted, and the king chuckled before he held her hand and pulled her in for a hug, making her immediately stop.
"How can I let my wife die, sunshine?" He said, and the lady whimpered in his arms, probably crying in his chest.
"Did you even once think about what will happen after you are gone? How will I live? Do you have any idea how hard it would be for me?" The lady asked, and the king wiped her cheeks with his thumb before kissing her forehead.
"You will survive just fine, my sunshine. I am sorry, dear. I know I am being selfish once again and giving you this responsibility when you are not obliged to, but you are the only one I can trust," the king said before he turned around.
"The process is simple and yet complicated. Hear me out very clearly," the king said.
Arizona clicked her fingers again, and Nathaniel looked at her.
Does that mean King Eros didn’t die of sickness but actually sacrificed himself for his wife and baby?
The scene changed again.
This time, the lady was lying on the bed, going into labor pain.
"Aaaaaa!" The lady screamed in pain as she delivered the baby, and the nanny pulled out the baby from under the blanket with a concerned face. She wiped the baby before looking at the queen.
"I am sorry, queen. She... she is not alive" the nanny said, and the lady shook her head.
"No. This can’t be. How can the baby die? My husband died because of this kid. How can she be born dead? Eros! You left me for our kid, but she left me too! What am I supposed to do now? I lost everything!" The lady screamed in pain and agony, and Nathaniel’s eyes brimmed with tears as he looked at the dead baby, the baby who was no one other than Elliana.
"Aaaaaahhh! Get this thing out of my face! I don’t want any aftercare. My baby is dead. There is no use of living anymore," The lady screamed in agony, her powers reacting so loudly that everyone was thrown out of the windows, and the palace crumbled.
However, just before the nanny and the baby could hit the ground, a lady appeared out of nowhere and held them in her arms.
She grabbed the baby and nodded at the nanny, who nodded back at her.
"Please fulfill our king’s wish. Make her live and take care of her," The nanny handed the dead baby to the lady, and though the face of that lady wasn’t visible, it didn’t take Nathaniel long to know that the lady who took the baby away was Arizona.
~~~~~~
Arizona clicked her fingers, and the sheet disappeared.
"So, I hope whatever I tell you now, you should know that I will be speaking the truth," Arizona said before looking at the photo she always keeps on her table upside down.
The photo of her kissing Eros’s cheeks. The man she loved and will always love till her last breath.
There were so many things unheard and unanswered, and Nathaniel was ready to hear them all now.
He thought finding the truth would make it easier for him to understand what was happening to Elliana, and he would help her meet her real mom, but seeing the clips, it looks like Arizona was trying to protect Elliana from her real mom. She devoted herself to this cause all her life, even going to the lengths of hurting herself time after time.
