Chapter 276: What is the truth?
Chapter 276: What is the truth?
"Nathaniel? What a pleasant surprise. Did you need anything?" Arizona asked as she closed the files she had been working on.
"Yes, I did," Nathaniel sat in front of her, his eyes ice-blue already, and Arizona immediately knew he was here only for business and no useless talk.
She straightened her back and looked him straight in the eyes.
"What is it?" She asked.
"I am here for answers to some of my very simple questions," Nathaniel said before he clicked his fingers, teleporting them to a dark domain.
Arizona raised her brows when she noticed their chairs floating in the air as red dark clouds surrounded them.
The sound of the thunderclaps resonated with his emotions, and Arizona looked at the pink shade of the sky, dried leaves on trees, and a weird black-colored river flowing below them.
If it had been any other witch, they would’ve been fearing his strategical approach already, but Nathaniel probably forgot he was sitting in front of the current queen of the white witch world.
"And for some reason, the answer to those questions needed a domain change? Nathaniel, do you really think that you can bind me to this domain? Have you forgotten I am the Ice queen," Arizona clicked her fingers, and they were back to their ice palace, making Nathaniel smile.
"Of course, not. I was just testing something. Now I would like to ask you some simple questions, and I want a very clear answer to them," Nathaniel clicked his fingers, and this time they were in the attic of Sebastian’s palace in the hidden energy bubble that only the top tier witches of the dark world were able to create.
This bubble hides the aura of the witch completely, disabling anyone to find out about them.
Nathaniel smiled when he noticed the uneasy expression on Arizona’s face. Well, now they were talking.
"What type of questions?" Arizona asked, trying her best to keep her wariness at bay.
"Just a few simple questions. For example, you have to answer this question with a yes or no," Nathaniel smiled.
"Is Elliana a dark witch?" Nathaniel asked, and Arizona’s expression darkened.
"What are you playing at, Nathaniel? Elliana is my daughter. Of course, she is a -" Arizona started, but Nathaniel raised his hand to stop her.
"I forgot to mention that every time you lie, a crack will appear on this shield, and you know what will happen if that happens. Let’s not let the vampire prince know Arizona was here because I would be more than delighted to share the news with everyone," Nath threatened her, his head tilting as he smirked at her.
Arizona couldn’t believe her eyes and ears. Was he the same person who never dated to raise his powers in front of her to not disrespect her?
Though Nathaniel was a mixed-breed witch, he never showed signs of being a dark witch, so for him to react like this, she couldn’t help but feel shocked.
"Nathaniel, what are you on about? Did something happen? Did someone say anything to -" Arizona paused when she felt a shaped blade being pointed at the back of her head.
"Did something happen? Does killing a few people without having remorse and her powers opening their eyes to look at me count?" Nathaniel sighed.
"Answers, Queen Arizona. The only language you should speak today is honesty because I am running really low on patience here," Nathaniel leaned back in his seat with closed eyes.
"Is Elliana a dark witch?" Nathaniel asked.
"She is," Arizona said with a shaky breath, speaking the truth that she had been hiding for more than eighteen years in her heart, a truth that she would rather die than tell everyone.
However, now that it was all about Elliana’s life, which would be in danger if Nathaniel went around interrogating things, she couldn’t help but reveal it.
"You are a white world’s queen. But Elliana is a dark witch? Who is her father?" Nathaniel opened his eyes, his eyes the deepest shade of blue Arizona ever saw, and she looked away.
"Well, let me rephrase my question. Who is her mother, Queen Arizona? Don’t you think it’s about time you start revealing the truth to the world? Because I don’t know about others, but I have had enough of your lies," Nathaniel took a deep breath to control his emotions.
"Do you even know what kind of slap I felt on my face when a mediocre-level dark witch told me the truth that I should’ve been told by the people I have been loyal to my entire life? That Elliana is a dark witch and you are not her mother?" Nathaniel asked.
"I am her mother!" Arizona stood from her place.
"No, you are not!" Nathaniel stood, the sound of something cracking echoing in the area, and Nathaniel quickly shifted them back to the Himalayan hills where a large chunk of collected snow broke, bringing a snowstorm.
Arizona looked at the storm and raised her hands, immediately freezing it in place before she looked at Nathaniel.
"You are crossing your limits, Nathaniel. Just because I treat you like my son, doesn’t mean I will take the disrespect lightly," Arizona’s aura started to change as she walked to the window, and Nathaniel scoffed.
"You have been hiding the truth from me," Nathaniel stood in front of Arizona as she stood near the window, looking at the hills.
"I don’t know what you are talking about," Arizona said again, and Nathaniel chuckled a dark humorless chuckle.
"It’s fine. I got half of my answers from you. You are not Elliana’s mother, and that’s enough for me to snatch your entitlement to interfere in her life again and again. From now onwards, Elliana will be my sole responsibility -"
"She is mine!" Arizona screeched, her eyes turning silver as her hair flailed in the air.
If it had been anyone, they would’ve been scared of the queen’s wrath, but Nathaniel, who was used to seeing her angry and calming her most of the time just smiled.
"She is a fucking person, Queen Arizona. She doesn’t belong to anyone. Don’t you see what you have been doing? You have been making her life a living hell by forcing her to have connections with those pathetic humans and vampires when you are not even her mother," Nathaniel shook his head.
"No. That’s not true. I am her mother. She is my daughter. I raised her and cared for her as my own. All my life, I only thought about her. She is my daughter and no one else’s," Arizona shook her head in denial.
"I know that you won’t give me any more answers and I don’t expect anything from you. So I will go and ask one person who I am sure would be more than happy to share the truth. The leader of the most deadly dark witches. Azura Blackthorn," Nathaniel said, and Arizona froze in her place.
"You... you can’t go to her. She must not know about Elliana. No. I won’t allow it," Arizona clicked her fingers and started binding Nathaniel with her magical ropes, the ropes that did not affect Nathaniel.
Nath, on the other side, who noticed Arizona losing her mind, felt slight guilt gripping his heart when she fell on the ground.
"Please don’t go. I will tell you the truth. I can’t lose Elliana. Not her. She is everything I have and my reason to be alive. Please, I beg of you," Arizona said.
Nathaniel looked at her with a neutral face before nodding.
"Who is her mother, Queen Arizona?" He asked, and Arizona placed her hand on her face to control her emotions.
"Elliana... she is the daughter of the man I loved -" Arizona trailed off, shocking Nathaniel as he fell back on his seat, not at all expecting Elliana’s father to be him.
"You have to be kidding me," Nathaniel growled, but Arizona shook her head.
"That’s the truth. She is his daughter,"
