The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 66 - 55 Humanity
Chapter 66: Chapter 55 Humanity
Rod finally managed to convince the staff at the Academic Affairs Office that he was just contemplating life on the toilet, having been so deeply engrossed in his thoughts that he hadn’t noticed their calls from outside the door.
The staff member warned him sternly,
"Wasting water resources, especially hot water resources, is very shameful! The purifying capacity of the Holy White Tree is limited, you should have turned off the water before thinking!"
"The keeper of the hot water tower said that Room 301 in Building Three of Three Institutes had its hot water on for two and a half clock hours. We thought the faucet wasn’t shut off, and when we saw your clothes on the chair, we realized someone was taking a bath inside."
"Your group leader is truly responsible. As soon as we informed her, she came over. After confirming from the dormitory manager that you had returned to the dorm, she was the most anxious."
"Honestly, we all thought you had an acute illness and had collapsed in the bathroom. It was she who took the lead in breaking down the door and rushing in, only to pull such a big joke. You should really apologize to her properly..."
The staff member rambled on for a long time before finally issuing him a fine, requiring him to pay for the repairs of the door and toilet himself. They wouldn’t deduct any academic credits, but he shouldn’t expect such leniency next time.
After much difficulty getting the staff member to leave, Rod was filled with regret.
This was an oversight on his part; he hadn’t expected that the academy would check the water meter and realize he had left the water running for so long.
Looking at the fine, he was so angry his nose might have bent out of shape.
silver coins!
A toilet that expensive!
Rod was not very pleased. He felt the joy of a major turning point in his life significantly diminished.
Well, he needed to remember this lesson for the future: don’t stay in the Dream Realm too long.
At the same time, Rod felt that he needed a safe environment with privacy. The institution didn’t take personal privacy seriously; people here seemed not to have the concept of respecting privacy, rather having the habit of living together as a community.
Perhaps it was their custom.
As for the fine, of course, Rod wasn’t going to pay. He planned to find an opportunity to sweet-talk Kashan into paying for him.
After all, it was she who had hammered the door and smashed the toilet. Why wouldn’t she pay?
Rod only had a total of three hundred silver coins on him and needed to buy True Silver Bullets; he certainly didn’t have enough to spend.
Hmm, he would have to find a way to earn some money. He couldn’t always be borrowing, could he?
While contemplating this, Rod quickly took the Fuel Element from the bookshelf, then lay on the bed, pulled the blanket over himself, and tied threads from the blanket around his wrist. If anyone were to come in, just lifting the blanket would tug at his gesture.
There shouldn’t be any problems.
Making the gesture once more, Rod returned to the Dream Realm.
With an added room, the previously barren Dream Realm now looked less desolate and even a bit inhabited.
Rod stepped onto the staircase, entered the cottage, and approached the Stone Platform.
He carefully filled the hollow white candle on the candelabra with Fuel Element. With just a wick sticking out, as soon as it was filled, it lit automatically.
The faint candlelight seemed filled with Spirituality, and an odd sensation emerged as if the Stone Platform had come to life.
All the cupboards closed by themselves; the cluttered tools were tidied up, leaving a large blank space on the Stone Platform where white text appeared.

After reading this, a strong sense of joy and immense worry surged in Rod’s heart.
He was pleased to see so many powerful items to craft; what was there to fear?
His worry was, where would he get all these materials?
Rod read through the list carefully twice, and started to have a preliminary plan in his mind.
Creating Soul Firewood was the top priority.
Once his Soul Star was enhanced, his power would increase, and that was his most fundamental reliance.
But the materials needed for it were extensive.
Complete Souls could be obtained by hunting monsters, and the same for Monster Ash.
Radiant Stone should be purchasable.
But what was Humanity? And what was Divinity?
Especially humanity, the four items listed above all require humanity.
Rod held the great book and asked this question.
The page read:
[Humanity: The characteristics of being human, the foundation of one’s existence as a person, represents the resistance of reason, the soul’s resistance to the erosion of darkness.]
[Divinity: The source of the Heavenly God’s Armor.]
Rod furrowed his brows.
"What is the Heavenly God’s Armor?"
[Knowledge Missing]
Moved by an idea, Rod asked, "Is this dream realm shattered? Do I need to find more fragments to piece it back together?"
[Knowledge Missing]
Alright then.
Though he had not received a clear answer, Rod felt deep down that this was the answer.
He asked again, "Where is humanity?"
[To the left of the obelisk.]
Rod’s heart skipped a beat; he remembered, wasn’t that the side of the obelisk where blackness emerged and then settled down?
Was that black substance humanity?
A strong sense of anticipation emerged in his heart.
Clutching the great book, Rod quickly returned to the obelisk.
Reaching its left side, he extended his hand and barely touched it when large clumps of blackness emerged from the obelisk’s surface like falling snow.
The blackness rose gradually, finally stopping at about two-thirds of the obelisk’s height.
Rod slightly furrowed his brows; it seemed higher than what he had seen before.
"Is this black substance humanity? How can I extract it?"
[Touch the obelisk with your forehead, and you will gain deeper operational methods.]
Is it that simple?
Rod pressed his forehead against the obelisk, and in an instant, it felt as if his soul flew into the obelisk. The black fluff was like a wall before his eyes; he could move it around at will, pick it up, or hand it to "himself outside the wall."
When he focused his gaze on the black fluff, a line of information fed directly into his mind:
Humanity: 607
Rod’s heart leapt with joy.
There was no shortage of this humanity material, even the item requiring the most only needed fifty portions.
But as soon as he passed a portion of humanity to himself, 607 instantly changed to 597.
Damn!
Ten points of humanity for just one portion?
For someone as humane as me, there are only sixty portions of humanity?
Rod thought it over and took only ten portions of humanity, which were needed to make Soul Firewood.
He did not dare to take too much, fearing that losing his humanity would turn him into a reasonless beast. What a disaster that would be!
With a thought, his spirit returned, and Rod lifted his forehead, seeing ten lumps of slowly writhing black fluff in his hand.
This was his humanity.
Rod checked in with himself; everything seemed normal. He didn’t feel any colder or more insane.
He recalled some indescribable scenes, yes, everything was functioning normally.
Rod exhaled in relief, reassured.
It seemed like everything was alright.
However, when he saw the blackness on the obelisk’s surface had reduced from two-thirds to about half, he felt quite worried again.
Humanity was so important yet there was so little left. What would he do when it ran out?
Rod asked the great book this question.
"Can humanity be acquired?"
[The black humanity originates from the spirit of mankind, the eternal and indestructible hope, the salvation of dreams, the noble aspirations, the personal redemption, happiness, joy, fulfillment - all these will increase your humanity.]
In an instant, Rod’s eyes widened.
Is that how humanity is gained?
Is it really that simple?
With my Emotional Intelligence, will I ever be lacking in humanity?
Hahaha, from now on, please call me the King of Humanity!
Rod laughed heartily, with such an important material being limitless; he felt as if the future was bending down before him, starting to pick up the soap.
Immediately, a more fervent warmth scorched his heart.
Rod shifted his gaze to the right side of the obelisk.
If humanity is that simple,
What about divinity?
