The Last King Of Darkness
Chapter 65 - 54 Talk Without Action

Chapter 65: Chapter 54 Talk Without Action

After refreshing himself, the second thing he did was to check out the small cabin in front of him.

The black altar had given him a powerful Eye of the Soul, so this building should have some use as well.

Rod walked up the steps into the cabin.

The cabin wasn’t large, rectangular in shape, about fifteen meters long and five meters wide, and it was empty inside except for a stone platform at the very front and a bookshelf to the left side.

The stone platform was cluttered with tools as drawers big and small were opened or closed, looking very messy.

The bookshelf was empty save for a single book.

Rod approached the stone platform first.

The platform was large, taking up the entire front of the small cabin, but strangely, all the tools and drawers on it were immovable as if fixed in place.

After studying it for a long time, Rod had no clues and could only turn to the bookshelf and took down the only book on it.

The book was massive, requiring both hands to pick it up, and its deep purple hardcover was engraved with strange patterns that seemed to be made up of stars, giving the whole book an epic feel.

Rod struggled to decipher its meaning.

"Intelligence, sum, lack, the things recorded..."

This was standard Dream Realm script, written artistically, which greatly hindered his ability to decipher it.

"Book... Book of Stupidity?"

Bang!

Just as Rod was about to open the giant book to see what sort of "stupidity" it entailed, the book slammed shut abruptly, hitting his hand hard and falling to the ground.

"Ouch! What the hell is this thing!"

Rod was startled, nearly pulling out his gun to fire, but the book simply lay quietly on the ground, showing no sign of trouble.

What was going on here? Was there a spring inside the book?

Rod reached out with his reddened right hand and touched it lightly.

No reaction.

He touched it again.

Rod clearly saw that the book moved a bit by itself, as if it found his touch extremely distasteful.

Was this book alive?

"Hey, can you hear me speak?" Rod cautiously asked.

But the book gave no response.

Rod asked several more times, but still received no answer.

He carefully approached and saw the text on the book’s cover shining, seemingly hinting at something.

Rod frowned and studied it for a long time before he finally had a revelation.

"Book of Knowledge!"

As his words fell, the text returned to its normal appearance, glowing faintly with a cool aloofness, like a haughty queen.

Rod was amused and frustrated at the same time. What kind of nonsense was this? Aren’t you just a book? I just mispronounced your name, and even if I called Lily ’Vivi’, was there any need for this?

Rod carefully picked up the big book.

This time, there was indeed no anomaly, but when he opened it, every single page was blank.

A book with no words? Or did he need to meet some conditions for the content to appear?

Rod flipped back and forth, studying the book for a while, but couldn’t find any clues.

Feeling puzzled, he mumbled to himself, "How do I use this, exactly?"

The next moment, two characters appeared on the blank pages.

[Ask]

The handwriting was fine and a bit sloppy, seemingly impatient.

Rod’s eyes widened in a snap.

Ask?

So, that meant I just had to ask, and it would answer my questions in text on the pages?

This was a tremendous treasure!

A surge of intense elation bubbled up from within, and Rod cleared his throat, deciding to start with a question close at hand.

"How should this stone platform be used?"

Text quickly appeared on the page.

"Ignite... uh, the... Burning Tears on the platform?"

Rod looked up and immediately noticed the three-pronged metal candelabrum on the left side of the platform, with candles of varying lengths inserted.

Rod instantly understood, "Oh, this word means ’candle’. So igniting the candle activates the platform?"

"How do you ignite it?"

[Add Fuel Element]

Rod sighed in relief; he had thought he might have to sacrifice his soul.

If it was just Fuel Element, then that would be simple, as it was the most common commodity in Royal City.

Rod continued to ask:

"Who is the murderer of the entire migration team of Redstone Village? Where is he? Where is the conclusive evidence of this affair?"

[Please ask questions related to knowledge.]

Rod felt a bit disappointed, it wasn’t the all-knowing godly book but just a Book of Knowledge with an automatic indexing feature.

But it was enough.

The knowledge he was most lacking now was particularly the knowledge of the Dream Realm.

There were too many unknowns in the Dream Realm, and if he could figure them all out, his growth would accelerate significantly, his safety would be greatly enhanced, and the days of living well would come much sooner.

With that thought, Rod immediately asked his most pressing question:

"How are the stars ignited within the Obelisk?"

The Book of Knowledge did not disappoint, and new text quickly appeared on its pages.

Luckily, Rod had brought books like "Ancient Language" into the Dream Realm for convenience in his studies.

He had some foundational knowledge by now and could barely understand it by referring to the book.

[Igniting a new Soul Star requires enough Firewood, a large amount of Spirituality, and a special Soul]

Rod’s heart stirred, and he continued to ask, "What is a special Soul?"

[A Soul with a Source]

"What is Spirituality?"

[The Element that makes up a Soul, only human Souls possess a large amount of living Spirituality.]

"What is Firewood referring to?"

[Soul Without Spirit, the Soul Body part of a Soul]

As expected!

Rod roughly understood now.

When he ignited the second star, Frost Blue, he used five Dust-like Souls, one Doomsday believer’s Soul, and one invading monster’s Soul.

It was clear that "special Soul" was referring to the invading monster’s Soul which might have the Source mentioned by the Book of Knowledge.

The Spirituality was likely provided by the Doomsday believer’s Soul.

The Firewood was likely provided by them collectively.

So then.

If Rod wanted to ignite new stars now, having a Soul with a Source was the most important.

"Where can I find monsters with a Source?"

[Non-knowledge question.]

Shit!

This book is so slow-witted.

Rod thought for a moment and then asked, "How can I increase the Position of a star?"

[Need to reach the Limit Burning State, requires Soul Firewood.]

"How can I obtain Soul Firewood?"

[Produced on the Stone Platform, requires corresponding Elements.]

Good!

He now knew the answers to the two most critical questions.

The other questions could wait for him to research at his leisure.

The most crucial thing now was to get the Fuel Element, activate the Stone Platform, and see how Soul Firewood is produced.

Keep in mind, once a star is ignited, it will continuously consume Souls, unless its Position reaches "Eternal Fire."

Rod went to the Obelisk for a glance, and in just a few short hours, Frost Blue went from Limit Burning to Continuous Burning, dropping a whopping three grades, and its Strength also dropped from the highest, twenty-six, to fifteen.

This was nearly eight hundred Souls accumulated!

If he could increase Frost Blue’s Position to "Eternal Fire," then its State would become "Constant Burning," and it wouldn’t waste so many Souls.

Rod’s heart ached.

He had to quickly elevate the Position of his stars.

He crossed his thumbs together to form a Lightning Symbol.

His vision blurred and a strong sensation of falling appeared; in the blink of an eye, he was back in the bathroom, sitting on the toilet, with the sound of water splashing continuously and steam swirling around him.

However, what alarmed Rod was the loud banging from outside the door.

"Hurry, put some muscle into it! The person might be in shock!"

Before Rod could make a sound, there was a loud boom, and the door burst open, Kashan with her dazzling blonde hair charged in first.

"Rod..."

Rod moved his hands away with lightning speed, opening his arms.

And from Kashan’s perspective, Rod was sitting naked on the toilet, arms opened, lunging towards her!

"Ahhhhhhhhh!"

A world-shattering scream hit Rod’s eardrums instantly, followed by the girl’s Heavy Strike to his face with massive impact, shattering the toilet he was sitting on.

Kashan turned and ran, knocking over the administrative staff outside the door.

Damn it!

Rod saw stars, his head throbbing and dizzy, feeling a significant local impact.

You talk about childbirth every day; it turns out you’re just a pillow princess, all talk and no action!
