Chapter 125: Controlling (2)

Chapter 125: Controlling (2)

"When the two of you are finished with whatever it is you two are at odds about, we need to talk about the current issue we have. The family that suddenly has an interest in us," Rafael said, bringing up what they needed to be more concerned about.

"He sent the carriage here to toy with me. Travis has always had a twisted mind even when we were children. It was only when I was not doing as I was told when it came to my engagement that he started to play games with me. He is a cruel man and I find myself forgetting that we share the same parents. He will toy with us until he becomes bored and then he will finally show up," Beatrice said.

When she had the chance, she should have just strangled her brother in his sleep or poisoned him, but regardless of how much he toyed with her emotions and caused her to panic whenever he was near, she could not find the strength to do something to him in the past.

A part of her found it hard to attack her brother since they were family and it was only now that he was coming after Rafael that she had the strength she needed years ago.

Or so she thought since she got so worked up this morning that Rafael had to come to look for her. She needed to be stronger to not worry her husband and son during this time.

"We should just kill him," Rafael said, not seeing why they would leave him to allow his uncle to play games with them. If they killed him along with his grandparents and some of the relatives who made his mother’s life hell, their problem would be solved.

"I have to worry about you going out to war and now I have to worry about you fighting my family. Knowing that you are the commander of knights, Travis will not come with a few men around him. He will gather a lot of protection to keep himself safe and it pains me to say that he is an excellent fighter. He had the best teachers money could buy when we were growing up-"

"Is he better than me?" Rafael asked.

Beatrice smiled as she should have known this would have come up. "No, my sweet son. There is no one better than you. Not even the king."

"What about me?" River asked since he was the one who taught Rafael and even the king at one point.

Beatrice finally turned to face River. "It is not my fault that the two of you went and got the same title. The two of you shouldn’t stand before me when I am giving out compliments. I will tell you that you are the best later when your son is not around."

"The right answer is that I am the best. Isn’t that what you said for years?" River asked, stooping down to be at her level. He was trying to get back on her good side after she was not so happy with him.

Rafael looked away from the two of them, not interested in watching his father trying to please his mother. He did not ride all this way in a rush to see such a sad sight.

"I said that before Rafael became a knight. You’re both wonderful now go," Beatrice shooed them away. "I know the two of you are going to plot to kill my brother regardless of what I say so go ahead and do it. I need to finish clearing my mind so leave me be," she said.

She could only warn them of how dangerous it would be to fight her brother. Beatrice only hoped that the fight would not get so dirty that it would destroy Rafael’s honour as a knight. Rafael was already dealing with criticism from men in the palace and now they might use this fight to criticise him more.

"I am tired of men," Beatrice mumbled as she continued to dig around in the dirt.

River did not like the sound of that, but instead of continuing to try talking to her, he would deal with Rafael first. The two of them needed to be ready for whatever Travis planned to do next and strike him first.

"I will be back shortly," River said goodbye to Beatrice.

She looked up and offered him a smile before going back to taking care of her garden.

River and Rafael walked back inside where Christian had stood to give them some privacy.

"It’s been so long since I heard of you just killing someone. Did they attack you?" Rafael asked as he was still shocked that his father killed the men Travis sent.

"I didn’t give them the chance to attack me, but after something they said, I lost my mind for a moment. It has happened in the past. I have just not told you or your mother. It is hard to control yourself when someone speaks poorly of the woman you love and your son. You will understand someday," River said, patting Rafael’s back.

Once Rafael cared for you, he would do all that he could to protect you, and though his son was more on the peaceful side most of the time, River had witnessed his anger when someone tried to hurt something he loved. River figured Rafael was aware of this other side he had, which was why he stayed quiet and away from many people to avoid hurting someone.

His little gentle giant of a son could do a lot of damage to someone. River had to give him a pat on the back since it was his intense training that made Rafael be so good.

"I am sorry this has ruined your morning," River apologised. He would have liked to deal with the matter before getting Rafael involved.

"You did not ruin it. Henry visited early in the morning and ruined it," said Rafael.

"Seeing that Henry left shaken up, Rafael got his revenge for his morning being ruined," Christian chuckled. He wished he had been present to see what Rafael did to have Henry so shaken up. It was rare to see Rafael snap when it wasn’t the knights he spoke to and when he did, it was a good show.

"What did you do to him?" River asked.

"Nothing," Rafael replied, walking up to the second floor so they could sit around and speak in private in one of the rooms.

"Nothing? I saw him holding his neck. I think you finally choked him," said Christian.

"Why did you choke Henry?" River asked, catching up to Rafael to hear more about this. He needed to know what Henry did to push Rafael to attack him. The main person Rafael seemed to have an issue with, in all of this was Delilah, not Henry.

"He said something I did not like. Let’s leave it at that," Rafael said, wanting this conversation to end. If it continued any further, he would have to admit that he did what he did with Henry because what was said about Annalise and Henry wanting to see her.

Their conversation would have ended on a better note had Henry stopped talking about her. Rafael did not want to speak of it anymore to hear or think that there was something he felt for Annalise and that was why he defended her to that degree. He was only protecting his maid.
