THE Knight's Hidden Princess -
Chapter 195: The Easy Way
Chapter 195: The Easy Way
REAGAN POV
The king sat on my seat, his presence looming over us as he stared down at us with a look that made the rest of us feel small which was exactly what he had intended. I had given Ivar to Heather and instructed her to take him to see Ivana, they were not to come out until Sigurd left, I do not want him anywhere near my child. Heather understood and had disappeared as fast as she could, I then decided to handle Sigurd.
It was obvious that he came here for a reason and whatever the reason was I knew it wasn’t going to be to anything good. Sigurd sat on my seat while the rest of us sat opposite each other. Bjorn sat opposite me and Evie sat opposite Nikolai while the rest of my family each took their seat, including Celeste who had chosen to sit right next to me.
There was no denying the unmistakable tension in the air. I could tell how uncomfortable it was to be in the same room with the one man who was known for his ruthlessness. I pities my mother escpecially, she sat so rigid in her seat, her hands clenched tightly in her lap as if she would fall apart if she released them. There was a smile on her face but I knew that smile was a mask to hide how she truly felt on the inside. We all felt the same way, me and my mother both. Miguel and Adrianne were still seated tight, they had no idea what had happened of the horror we had to shield them from and it was going to stay that way. I was always going to protect them.
Sigurd sat still in his seat relishing in the way we all looked, enjoying his small power play. His jeweled fingers gently tapped on the armrest of his seat as he stared down at all of us. Taking in a deep breath, he finally decided to speak. "I am here today to talk about my grandson’s naming ceremony."
My mother’s gaze turned to look at me and it was if she arched a brow up at me, no doubt in an ’I told you so way.’ I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and instead decided to focus on the king who was still talking and now had his gaze on mine.
"It’s been nine months and my grandson is yet to have his ceremony." Sigurd said and I gripped my arm rest a little bit too tight, "He may not be a price, but he does have royal veins in his blood."
Smiling tightly I bowed my head at him, "Apologies my king but it’s just that I’ve been in grieving."
"Grieving?" Sigurd asked as if it was the most preposterous thing to ever be said, "It’s been nine months Reagan, move one, we all have.
I clenched my fist tighter as I forced myself to speak when what I initially wanted to do was kick him in the face. "Apologies your majesty it will appear that I am still having issues with it."
Sigurd snorted in response, "Well that’s understandable but I will advice you do so fast." He said leveling me with a hard glare, "I need my knight back, some of the people are starting to get ridiculously brave. So get over it fast ad also if you need help, just remember that the best way to get over a woman is to get under another one. Your concubine is quite the looker so you should have no trouble with that, seems like the kind of woman who seems to know just exactly what she is doing." He said shooting a sly smirk at Celeste who chose that moment to wrap her arm around mine.
He should die for what he just said, I should have his tongue for being so bold to offer such a statement and for the first time I curse my family’s lineage for not being powerful enough because who would dare to challenge the king except if it was another royal.
I turned to glare at Celeste who offered me a small smile before she released me. Turning to look back at the king, I offered him a smile of my own but it was one that didn’t quite reach my eyes, more like a strain. "I’m sure your majesty didn’t come all this way to offer me advice that I do not need or ask for." I said my voice coming out sharper than I intended.
Bjorn let out a loud laugh and my mother joined in. "Oh Reagan, I can see why people call you the hell hound. Trying to sound more intimidating than you actually are." He said and my mother to joined in same with Nikolas who gave me a look that was asking what the hell I was doing.
I wish I knew but I just couldn’t think straight with the anger and if I spend one more minute sitting in this damn room with this sorry excuse for a king and a father.
Sigurd didn’t find the whole thing amusing but he said nothing. Sigurd sighed heavily as he leaned back in his seat. "I guess this is a touchy subject for my hell hound." He said and I kept my gaze fixated on the table out of fear that if I had to look at him one more time, I might do something incredibly stupid like act out on my anger.
"Very well then, on the matter on my grandson’s ceremony I propose that it should be done next week." Sigurd said, "And it’s not up for debate, it’s been delayed for far too long!" He said when I sat up straight in my seat ready to argue.
"Start the preparations." He said this to my mother before standing up from his seat, "This meeting is now dismissed, walk with me Marina, let’s discuss further."
"Of course." My mother replied with a strained smile on her face as she stood up from her seat while looking at me.
I turned to look at Miguel, "Go with her." I ordered him and he immediately nodded his head before turning to do as I asked.
Adrianne turned to look at Evie with a small smile on her face. "How about you come..."
"Leave us sister!" I shut Adrianne up but my eyes remained on Evie. "There’s a matter of importance that we need to discuss with the princess."
Evie stared at me with that annoying neutral expression on her face. The look that says she isn’t giving anything away, a look that constantly pissed me off.
Adrianne stared at all of us, probably wondering what it was we needed to talk about with the princess. But Adrianne knew better than to question me, with a bow she gracefully stood up from her seat and made her way outside locking the door behind us.
We all sat in silence for a minute before Evie cleared her throat loudly, "I am going to tell you where Dahlia is?"
Nikolai snorted in response, "Someone suddenly have a change of heart."
I stared at Evie trying to see what she was getting at but there was something in her gaze, something that made my heart race start to increase. "Why are you going to tell us this now when you’ve worked so damn hard to keep it hidden away from us?"
"Because Dahlia is going to die this time around!"
The minute the words left her lips, Nikolai stood up and had a sword pointed at her throat while Bjor alos stood up and had a sword pointed at my own throat. Neither me nor Evie flinched at what was happening.
"Call off your guard dog."
"Why don’t you call off the addict you have for a sister?" Nikolai retorted sharply.
I stared at Evie with Bjorn’s sword pointed dangerously close to my face. Evie remained calm but there was a look of regret on her face. "It’s okay Nikolai, let’s listen to what she has to say."
Nikolai stared at Evie for a minute before he sheathed his sword with a huff then lowered himself back to his seat. Bjorn did the same but he still glared at Nikolai. Turning to look at Evie, I nodded my head at her. "Tell me what happened."
Evie then began to speak. She told us about how Dahlia has been stuck in a pit after she had tried to escape with the prisoners. I was so damn proud to hear the part where she had poisoned the guards but then turns out she had been betrayed, so now she was in a prisoner where she has been tortured for a month. My heart broke and I could feel the anger within me continue to grow when Evie began talking about the things they were to doing Dahlia ever since they caught her.
"They whip her every night, her whole body is battered and bruise and_"
"That’s enough." I said and it wasn’t until I felt the wetness on my cheek did I realize that I had been crying, "Tell me where she is now!"
Evie stared at me and I was worried she wasn’t going to tell me because by then it would now be a problem. "I will take you there but I have to warn you, they won’t give her up easily."
"I never said I was going to be taking her the easy way!" I replied my voice now cold and filled with dark promise.
