Chapter 183: The Deed Has Already Been Done

DAHLIA POV

I was getting out of this place along with the other prisoners that was here, I was leaving no one behind!

This is thought that I’ve had these past weeks ever since my back healed and I was thrown back outside to start working. I decided to put more consideration into scoping out the place. I refused to believe that this place was that tight and there was no way out. Everywhere always have a way out, this place wasn’t as impenetrable as they led us to believe. It had to be a lie, something that was said to instill fear inside the prisoners.

In each cage lies a hinge that yields, in each prison lay a brick that wavers among the ones that were built to hold the building, one just have to be desperate enough to find it. I spent most of time outside watching quietly and patiently, I’m sure there was something I missed.

I started cramming when the guards changed their shifts and how they conversed with one another, which doesn’t happen a lot. I knew which ones were cruel and which ones were lazy and the ones who were pervert. Turns out they do have needs and some women happily obliged to satisfy it in order to get smaller work load. I examined every corner of the yard and also examined the prisoners too.

All of them seemed to have given up on almost making it out of here, they already accepted this place that this was where they were going to die. But not me and the only other person who believed that was Ilyana but her mother doesn’t want me filling her head with nonsense talks about getting out of here. She doesn’t want me giving her hope because according to her that was worse than knowing your own death.

It doesn’t matter though, I have found my way out and that was through him, Branderson!

My gaze found the man who was busy sitting on a brick as he quietly tore into a loaf of bread. The man who had been here for ten years. There is no way that someone who has stayed that long didn’t find a way to get out. He must have tried and something went wrong, but I was going to find out today.

Grabbing my cup of water, I walked towards Branderson. I didn’t say anything else as I lowered myself into the empty brick next to him. His gaze assessed me but I kept my eyes forward not wanting to seem too desperate. I felt him take his gaze off me and he stared ahead.

"Is it true you spent ten years here?" I asked breaking the silence.

I got no answer in response, he didn’t even give any indication that he had heard me speak. He just continued to chew his food slowly, apparently not bothering to care enough to answer my question or maybe he had answered it too many times that he got sick of repeating it?

I heaved out a sigh as I held my clay cup tighter in my hand. "You must have tried to escape."

That earned me a side way glance? Ah a, progress!

"I am going to get out of her and I’m going to take everyone with me."

It was probably idiotic of me to tell him about my plan since I just met him. But I was desperate and I was hoping by telling him we would have a mutual ground. He might give in to the plan if he notice that someone else was on board with him too.

"I need to know if there is a way you tried or_"

Before I could complete my words, Branderson stood up and left, not saying anything or a backward glance. So much for trying to get him on board with our plan! I thought to myself dryly as I downed my water. I had blurted out my words without proper thought and consideration. Despeartion makes people look stupid and I became keenly aware of that now.

I stared at his retreating figure which did nothing to soften the tension left behind by him. Heaving out another sigh, I stared at my cup flipping it over as I looked for a distraction. Perhaps, I had misjudged him, or worst of all hit a sensitive nerve.

Either way, I couldn’t lose this moment by dwelling on my disappointment.

I needed to do something!

Setting my cup aside, I stood up and walked towards one of the guards who was busy chatting with his friends. I approached them like I was just casually returning to my work but they didn’t anticipate that I was going to stop right in front of them.

As if sensing a presence, the soldier turned to look at me, eyeing me with a look of disgust. I recognized him as the guards who had helped lead me to the pole. Good, this would make what I was going to do so much easier.

"And what the hell are you looking at you dirty bi_"

He couldn’t complete his words because it ended in a grunt. The man stumbled backwards as he cupped his nose which I had punched in. The rest of the men stared at me in disbelief before they stood up but I didn’t give them a chance for them to touch me. I side stepped and threw a punch at the other soldier before he could grab me. The other swung at me but I grabbed his arm and swung it around then I wrapped my legs around the arm using it to move to his other body, using all my weight to bring him crashing down to the ground right next to me.

The moment he went down, I maneuvered our positions so I was landing on top of him. My elbow connected with his jaw before I rolled away just in time to avoid being kicked in the ribs. The third guard made no delay at all. With a angry roar, he charged towards me with great force, but his anger made his speed decrease, sloppy even.

All worked in my favor, I ducked under his arm and kicked the back of his knee causing his legs to buckle. He hit the ground with a wince and I instantly scooped up some snow to shove into his face.

Chaos exploded around me. There was angry shouts along with the thud of boots, I could also hear the sound of weapons being drawn.

That’s my cue to leave.

I stood up and I ran as fast as I could. I have no idea where I was going but I knew that I was getting out of here.

I made a quick turn and I sighted the gates ahead. I looked up to see some guards were running down the stairs probably to come and stop me but I wasn’t about to stop. I have spent so long believing that there was no way out but there was always a way out and I was going to find it.

I am not stopping, not now and certainly not ever!

My lungs burned as I ran faster, my stomach hurts and my legs screamed in protest but I ran faster not willing to give up. The gates were in sight, finally freedom.

Just a little bit more, a little bit farther and I was going to....umph!

My body tumbled forward into the snow as a result of a brutal force tackling me from behind. The wind got knocked out of me as my face slammed into the hard frigid snow. Yeah, I was going to be feeling that for days! I thought to myself as I choked on ice.

I felt the person on top of me turn me an instinctively I raised my hands up to protect myself from the blow that was coming. The soldier swung at me, aiming mostly for my face as he attacked me. He only managed to get a few hits in before I used all my body to maneuver him so he was the one in the snow this time around.

I grabbed him by the collar he wore underneath his armor, "Now, let me show how to hit, cause you hit like a fucking punya!" A fucking cunt!

I only managed to get one blow in his face before I was suddenly apprehended. I struggled against the men who were dragging me off him but they were too strong. I still struggled and I managed to kick him in his knee before he could get back up.

"Fucking hell, will someone get her out of here?" The soldier cried and I snorted in response.

"Aww someone needs his baby blanket?"

The soldier’s gaze turned into one of anger before he kicked at me, knocking the wind out of me again.

"Get her in the fucking hole!" He said before he yanked my head, "Let’s see how you like it bitch!" He whispered before he shoved me.

The soldiers dragged me off and I saw the people looking at me. The solider yelled at them to look away and they all did. I smirked as I was being dragged off because it didn’t matter the did had already been done!
