THE Knight's Hidden Princess -
Chapter 184: Angry Brother
Chapter 184: Angry Brother
REAGAN POV
I stood in front of the grand hall, anxiously rubbing on my ring as I waited for the prince to arrive. If I had my way, I wouldn’t have showed up here, but I was desperate and I knew I couldn’t get Dahlia and save her sister all by myself, I needed help. And with the information that I just found out from Skornir, I figured that it would be best if we had someone on the inside. So in the meantime, I sent Killian and Nikolai to go and see what they can find out about the wrong batch of the ember dust that Evie has supposedly been taking.
I didn’t want to involve Bjorn, Dahlia would be mad at me if she ever finds out that I dragged her brother into this. But she would kill me if she found that her sister is being fed drugs, an information I failed to tell her for months.
There was only one thing I could do right now, it was getting Bjorn to help me solve this mess and also get Dahlia out from whatever hell she is in. I just want her back in my arms and I wanted to rid her off her evil family once and for all.
The doors suddenly opened and Bjorn came inside. He was dressed in a dark tunic with pair of trousers. His hair looked tousled as if he had ran his fingers through it repeatedly. He had dark circles around his eyes, he was also spotting a shiner around his chin. For a prince, he looked a mess, haggard even. I haven’t seen Bjorn ever since we lost Dahlia and he mostly kept to himself and now I was starting to see why.
Without saying anything Bjorn walked towards one of the cabinet in the far room and pulled out a bottle of drink. I eyed him warily as he poured the golden liquid into two glass cup. I had gotten to the palace late last night and even though I wanted to see him, he had sent guards to tell me he was indisposed.
I’m guessing it has something to do with the drinking problem that he has right now. I am not judging, I’ve been on the receiving end of grief so I know what that meant.
"So, you wanted to speak to me?" Bjorn asked as he handed me my glass.
I accepted the drink but made no move to take a sip from it. I was staying away from anything alcohol for a while. After I made that deal with Ivar, I decided it would be best if I was clear headed and more so now that I found out that Dahlia was alive.
"What is it you wanted to speak to me about, Reagan?" Bjorn demanded when I didn’t answer him the first time.
I stared at the door knowing this wasn’t the safest place but for now the king wasn’t in the palace and I made sure Bjorn turned away the guards leaving us alone by ourselves. I set the glass down back on the table. Bjorn watched me with raised brows but he downed his drink.
Good, he was going to need it for what I was about to say.
"Dahlia is alive." I blurted out not needing to go into long speeches, I wasn’t one for that anyway.
Bjorn’s posture turned rigid as he stared at me, then he finally emptied his drink before he poured himself another one which I do not blame him for. It’s not every day you hear someone tell you your sister is back from the dead. I watched as Bjorn downed his second drink, not saying anything and I do not think he heard me.
"Bjorn, did you hear what I just said." I asked him, "Dahlia is alive?"
Bjorn still didn’t say anything and I was just about to repeat myself when he suddenly spoke again. "You know when my father announced she would be getting married to you, I argued against it. Getting married to the king’s loyal soldier was bound to be hell for her. It was like having a giant target at your back and for the first time in my life, I wanted her to run." Bjorn said before he turned to look at me with hollow eyes, "I packed her bags wanting her to leave with me because I have never once fulfilled the role of a brother to her. She always looked up to me and even though I was the first born, Dahlia protected me whenever she can and so I decided to return the favor by helping her get out. I didn’t want her to get married to you, there is just something about you that I do not trust."
I kept my quiet as I stared at Bjorn while willing my expression to remain neutral. I don’t blame him, he was hurt because he doesn’t know the truth yet.
"But do you know what she said to me, she told me not to worry. That you were just misunderstood, that you wouldn’t do anything to hurt her because she wouldn’t do anything that would cause you to. She swore to be devoted, faithful and even learn to love you. But the funniest thing was my sister already crush on you, the hellhound of Iravia!" Bjorn said before he chuckled and I tried not to flinch at the use of his name, "She has a crush on you can you believe that? Turns out she was just like all those girls who turn mindless at your gaze."
"Listen to me Bjorn, I understand that you are hurting but be careful how you speak about my wife." I said my voice low and cold, hoping he could hear the threat in my words.
Bjorn chuckled darkly, "Your wife? Need I remind you that before she became your wife she was my sister? Mine and you took her from me!"
I heaved out a sigh as I stared at Bjorn, he wasn’t listening to anything to anything I was saying. His grief and anger won’t allow him to. "Bjorn listen to me, I know you are angry but I need you to listen to me. Dahlia’s life is at stake."
"Okay, I’m done listening to this nonsense!" Bjorn said his tone hard, "Get out."
"No." I responded, "You need to listen to me."
"I said get out!"
"I guess you are just going to have to make me!"
Bjorn’s eyes flashed with challenge as he stared at me and something like excitement. I braced myself just in time as Bjorn barreled into me. The impact caused me to slide backwards and I held on to Bjorn as we slid backwards until my back finally hit the table.
Using that momentum, I raised my elbows and brought it down on Bjorn. I did that three more times till he finally yielded and he shoved away from. I clenched my hand into a fist prepared to swing at him but Bjorn already anticipated it, his hand shot up catching my wrist midair with a loud smack and then raised his own fist and delivered a blow to my face.
Gods damn it, that hurt! I thought to myself but it was something that I already anticipated and I let him. Bjorn grabbed me again and swung at me again and I dodged it. I raised my hands and managed to land a punch at his face.
Bjorn stumbled backwards and he shook his head to shake away the pain before he glared at me, there was blood trickling down from the corner of his mouth which he didn’t wipe his blood. He just stared at me.
"You had enough yet?" I asked him.
Bjorn chuckled as he cracked his neck. "Not quite!" He said before he approached me with balled fists.
This time, I collided with him head on, I blocked his blow, our shoulders banging together with a loud smack. He shoved me backwards, swinging for my ribs which I blocked but I purposely left myself open causing him to headbutt me in the face. The attack made me slightly dizzy and Bjorn wasn’t done with me yet because he grabbed me but I used the opportunity to twist my body and heaved him up so he landed on the floor in front of me.
"Seriously, I really think we should...." I let out a curse as Bjorn used his leg to kick me in the stomach and just as I doubled over in pain he punched me in the face.
"Oh for fuck’s sake!" I groaned rubbing my forehead.
Bjorn chuckled at me, "You know for the bravest knight you sure fight like shit!"
"Only because I’ve been holding back but it will seem I have to beat reason inside of you!"
"Yeah I would love to see you try!" Bjorn said with a smirk.
Forgive me Dahlia! I thought to myself before I raced forward and went to Bjorn. He swung first, I effortlessly dodged it and using my hand I grabbed the blow and I used it my other hand, I smacked it so he used his hand to punch himself in the face.
Bjorn blinked in confusion before he stared down at his hands. "Did you...did you just make me punch myself in the face?"
I grinned at him, "Told you I’m done holding back."
Bjorn groaned before he lunged at me with an angry roar.
Oh fuck!
