Chapter 182: Oh Fuck

REAGAN POV

I grabbed a bucket of ice water and dumped it on our prisoner.

Skornir jerked awake as he let out a long his just as the ice water hit his skin. He winced in pain as he jerked furiously on his seat, struggling to get away. When he couldn’t get away, he release a small scream and a curse.

"Fucking hell, what the fuck is that?" He asked as he groaned in pain.

Nikolai shrugged at him, "Nothing, just water."

"Mixed with salt." Killian added with a smug look on his face.

Skornir glared at him with a look of anger on his face, "Brakart!" He snarled at Killian who just laughed at him.

"Yeah, I’ve been called worse." He responded.

Brakart! That meant bastard! We had made lot of cuts on Skornir’s body, also given a lot of flesh wounds that made him bleed. The ice water we poured on him had contained salts which was why he was so angry.

"Well when we ask you a question, we expect you to answer it instead of being so difficult!"

"And I told you fuckers I don’t know anything about the side effects of the eye of the tiger!" Skornir yelled.

I hummed softly, "Hmmm, wrong answer!" I said before I walked over to the bowl of salt.

Skornir’s eyes widened before he jerked in his seat. "Wait, wait, please stop!"

"You know what we want to hear Skornir and it’s not your cry for pleas." Killian said as he began to take off his shirt while reaching for some brass knuckles which he had placed on the table.

Skornir swallowed, the fear palpable in his eyes as his gaze darted back and forth. "Oh come on man, you have to believe me, I swear I do not know_" Skornir’s words ended on a grunt as his head whipped to the side from the impact of the blow.

"FUCK!" Skornir roared out as he spat blood.

"Another wrong answer!" Killian said, clenching his hand to a fist as he got ready to hit Skornir again.

"Okay, wait, wait, wait, hold on, please...."

I signaled for Killian to halt as I walked forward towards Skornir giving him one single order, "Speak!"

"I truly haven’t heard anything about the side effects of the drug. The ember dust makes you feel good and I swear that is all it does." Skornir said but that wasn’t what I wanted and I knew he could tell because he adjusted himself on his seat. "Okay, listen while I might not know anything about some side effects, they’ve been some whispers. There are some people who get greedy, they take too much and we all know too much of anything isn’t good and of course there are some people who like to die with smiles on their faces."

Nikolai snorted in response, "Yeah, except they don’t die with smiles on their faces, they practically go crazy."

Skornir glared at Nikolai in response before he heaved out a sigh. "Look that is all I know and I also know the ember dust doesn’t kill, the people do that to themselves."

"Then how the fuck do you explain someone’s vein turning to yellow?" I yelled starting to get impatient.

Skornir’s eyes widened in response as he stared at me. He tilted his head to the side as he appraised me, almost as if he couldn’t believe what he just heard, "I’m sorry, what did you just say?"

Does that mean he knows it? I asked myself as I moved closer, "Faint yellow and black lines appearing on the skin?"

"And you are sure this person takes the ember dust?"

Well not exactly sure but definitely?

"Hey, you do not ask the questions here, just tell us what exactly you know!" Nikolai demanded, his tone harsh as he glared at Skornir who just shook his head.

Licking his lips, Skornir heaved out a sigh. "Okay I’ve only heard few rumors but I thought that was all they were, just rumors." He whispered more to himself than to us. Skornir finally looked up at us, "You guys are really not going to let me breathe if I decide not to say anything."

"That would be you choosing a slow and excruciating death." Killian responded his voice was filled with a certain dark promise.

Skornir could also hear it because he let out a bunch of colorful curses that even I didn’t understand. "So I may have over heard some people talking, saying all kinds of nonsense about a cursed batch. A version of the eye of the tiger that wasn’t supposed to be made known to the public. Said it was part of some side experiment, something about enhancement and...and..."

"And what for fuck sake?"

Skornir stared at me, the tremor in his jaw betraying how shaken he truly was. "And control." He said causing me to share a look with the other guys, "They said it was to enhance obedience, something all the kings wanted because who wouldn’t want to rule over people who are too drugged up to know what’s right and wrong. It was also made to make people faster."

"So basically a weaponized addiction?"

"Which would have turned out great except things went wrong. The batch was made in a small lab underground, they tested on some rats first then thy moved to prisoners afterwards. They were fast, moved at the speed of light and walked soundlessly, one could almost call them inhuman. They were the strongest warriors and survived but couldn’t do anything without someone controlling them. But then, they lost themselves, they all died screaming and guess what was on their body after..."

"Thin yellow lines." I said with horrified whispers.

Skornir nodded his head, "Yeah and after that, no one ever spoke of that batch again. Everyone who made the poisoned batch was executed and we created ember dust. Sure, it gives us speed and pleasure like never before but the ember dust doesn’t kill."

I believed every word Skornir said because it was the most he had said in a long time. But there was still something that doesn’t add up.

"Are you sure everyone who made that other batch was killed?" I asked him.

He gave me a nod in response, "Yeah, everyone.." He said before his eyes suddenly widened in realization, "Oh fuck!"
