Chapter 181: NO One Gets Out Alive
Chapter 181: NO One Gets Out Alive
DAHLIA POV
My whole body trembled violently from the cold and my limbs ached a lot. My back feels like it was splitting into two, the wounds from the whip burned with the tiniest movement and the only thing I could do was to curl into a ball in my little corner. After the guards picked me up, they threw me into the cell where I shared it with few of the other prisoners.
When I had heard that they would be taking me out of that dark cell I was slightly elated. I was at least not going to hear the sound of my thoughts anymore. I didn’t put up a fight as I was moved to the cell. But it turns out that the other prisoners had few bones to pick with me. My status wasn’t a secret as I would have hoped it would be. The people knew who I was, the daughter of the mad king who terrorizes kingdoms.
They held their grudges and from what I knew, it was as a result of wars from my father that led some of them to be captured and become prisoners here. If only they knew that it was also because of my father that I was here. None of them gave me a chance to even explain, they mostly ignored me but I heard the, cursing me every moment. They also bullied me every chance they got, they made me sleep in the coldest part of the room and sometimes when they serve food, they leave me with the smallest portion.
I didn’t complain, just as long as I was left alone, I do not mind!
I curled myself into a ball trying very hard to keep the whimpers that threatened to escape me. My whole body really hurts and I wish Evie can help me with some healers. At this point, I was desperate and I was going to take anything.
My body trembled as the wind howled outside and I was still trying to find the best place to stay warm when all of a sudden, I felt something freezing press against my back. A cry left me as I jerked away but I was suddenly yanked back and some of that cold pressed against me again.
"Hold still and let us help." I heard a firm feminine voice say, "It’s just snow, it will help with the swelling." The voice said.
A blast of cold coursed through me which came from the physical pain as well as the sudden shock. Snow? I thought as I tried to move but I couldn’t. My back exploded with pain as if fire was burning down my back and I couldn’t avoid the whimpers that escaped my lips.
"We need more snow here, Ilyana!" The voice yelled filled with a sense of urgency.
I heard quick shuffling of feet before another pulse of cold entered, this one was pressed to my back more gently but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. I sucked in air through my teeth at the pain just as I heard a loud rip then someone carefully raised me in a sitting position.
My eyes opened and I could see a woman who was busy shredding pieces of clothing. "Why...Why are you helping me?"
The woman stared at me before she went back to ripping the clothes in her laps. "I still don’t like you but I am no monster and something tells me you are not like your father." She said raising her head up to glance at me briefly.
She then gave me a hug as she began to wrap the thin strips of clothing around my body. I winced whenever she wrapped it tightly but I stayed still. "Besides, it the least I could do for the woman who saved my daughter’s life!"
I turned my gaze towards the little girl that was standing right behind her. She avoided my gaze, as if she couldn’t bear to look at me. I know she blames herself for what happened to me, I watched as tears streamed down her face, though her lips were pressed in a firm thin line as she took the scraps of the clothes.
"Something tells me she wouldn’t have need my help." I whispered as I adjusted myself so I could look at her, "You are really strong girl, what’s your name?"
"Ilyana." The girl answered before she wiped away at her tears furiously, "And I didn’t need your help!"
"Ilyana!" Her mother yelled as she turned to glare at her daughter, "And again, what on earth were you thinking stealing? Haven’t I taught you nothing for the past two years?"
That seemed to get my attention, I stared at her mother with curiosity, "I’m sorry, two years?"
"Yeah." The woman answered as she stared at me, "Two years, some longer than most." She said before she turned around at the other prisoners in our cell who were busy looking at us, "Those men who are busy eating in a corner have been here for five years, that woman has been here for three and the longest of us, is old Branderson over there. Ten years."
Ten years? My gaze slowly went to where she was looking at. There was an old man who sat down in a corner with ragged clothing. It was dark but there was something oddly familiar about him. Though I was in too much pain to try and recognize him.
"Which is why I tried to get some of that wonder drug everyone goes crazy for." Ilayana suddenly mumbled drawing my attention back to her, "He is dying and no one seems to care."
Her mother released a string of mumbled curses. "Goddess help me Ilyana, you could have gotten killed!"
Ilayana snorted in response. "Oh yeah? At least it will be quicker than this endless torment I have to face for the rest of my life." She said before she stood up and walked away.
Her mother released another string of curses in her language before turning to look at me, "Alright, I guess that’s it for the night."
"Thank you." I whispered as I stared at her, "I’m going to get you out of here, I promise."
The woman stood up as she stared at me with a wry smile, "No one gets out of here your highness." She whispered, "At least not alive anyways." She added before she turned to leave.
