THE Knight's Hidden Princess
Chapter 133: A Moment Of Recognition

Chapter 133: A Moment Of Recognition

The girl in front of me looked familiar but at the same she looked very different since the last time I saw her. The last time I had seen her was when she was still a baby and when we had to show up for formal meetings. Even then she had looked a bit different because we hardly knew each other. Mom had died after giving birth to her, so Evie didn’t know much about her. She grew up with the nanny just like I was but I made sure to shield her from all the cruelties of the court, I protected her the best way I could have even as a child.

The last two times I had seen her, was when I was sixteen and she was twelve years. We had barely spoken to each other then but we had a good laugh when we had taken a colorful drink we thought was fruit drink but then it turned out to be alcohol. Lucky Bjorn found us before we made a fool of ourselves and he dragged us to our bedroom where we had a good laugh by using our hair as mustaches and pretending we were lords of the court. We had so much fun that night and for the first time in our lives we were just girls, two girls who were having fun instead of being bound by duty.

The second time we saw each other the last for the final time was at my wedding. Even then she had stood from afar watching me with a distant look on her face and then I had dismissed it as because we didn’t know each other well and we seemed to have grown into different women.

But now, the girl I had seen the last time was gone, in her place was a completely different person. For starters her hair had been shaved off completely. She was dressed in all leather and the look in her eyes was blank, almost like I was staring into some soulless part of her and the only way I could recognize her was because of those familiar green eyes like mine. But this wasn’t my sister even from where I laid in the ground as I stared at her, I could already tell that she wasn’t my sister.

"Evie?" I called again but Evie gave no sign that she heard me. I turned to glare at my father. "What have you done?" I yelled at him.

My father straightened, clearing his throat before he could speak. "I didn’t do anything to her. I just trained her to be the perfect daughter, something you couldn’t do!"

"You are a fucking evil bastard you know that right?" I yelled before I turned to look at my sister. "Evie, it’s me Dahlia."

Instead of answering Evie grabbed me by my collar and lifted me from the ground and I stared at her but before I could question it, she reared back and head-butted me in the face. The impact caused me to stagger backwards and I stared up at her but Evie was already lunging for me and she was about to give me another punch but I moved away just in time causing her blow to hit the shelf which cracked into splinters at the impact of her fist.

I stared at the splintered woods then back at my sister who didn’t seem to even flinch at the pain it must have caused on her hand. My stomach dropped as I took in the way she stood, rigid not blinking her face vacant of anything. I knew Evie was different but so was the Evie I fought with yesterday. She still showed a little bit of well...emotions but now, she looked completely hollow, like a puppet that its string was being pulled.

"Evie..." I tried again, calling her name softly but she was fast.

Too damn fast than an average human, in a blink of an eye she was in front of me and then the next her hand was clasped around my throat. I tried to speak but she shoved me backwards, her hand tightening as she slammed me against the wall.

"Evie..." I called my eyes watery as I stared at her, "Eviee...Please..."

Evie snarled in response as she tightened a grip on me and she was impossibly strong for a sixteen year old. I can feel her cutting off my air supply even as I pleaded with her.

I turned to look at my father who wasn’t doing anything to stop the fight if anything he looked like he was enjoying himself, his eyes twinkling with excitement as he held a goblet in his hand. The fucking bastard had the audacity to pour himself a drink while his two daughters were busy fighting to the death.

"Evie..." I called out, attempting another try. "Listen to me, I don’t know what it is you are going through but you need....you need to fight whatever it is."

Evie didn’t say anything instead she squeezed my throat harder, it was almost as if she was trying to kill me. "Evie..." I called her again but she didn’t let go of me, she was determined to make me take my last breath.

Well, fuck that! I thought to myself and using my elbows, I brought it down on her hands she had wrapped around me. Before she could collect herself, I jabbed a blow to her face. I didn’t want to fight with her but If she doesn’t want to collect herself, I was going to remind her why I am the big sister.

A sick smile formed on Evie’s face when she saw that I was gearing up for a fight. We began to circle each other while keeping our eyes on each other, studying our movements. My heart broke as I watched my little sister become something so broken but so starved for violence. This wasn’t my sister, I never knew her really but this isn’t her, or at least what she would grow up to be.

Tears clouded my vision but I stood still, waiting for her to strike first and she did it. She lunged forward, swinging low and I barely managed to get out of the way, getting my stomach out of the way but Evie quickly spun around, her leg spinning as she moved to kick my ribs. I was able to bring my arm down and blocked it.

She made a move to punch me but I blocked it again with my elbow then gave her a quick double jabs to the face. I raised my fist again as Evie swung her fist again. I blocked, dodged but I wasn’t fast enough. Her knee came into my stomach and I doubled over gasping in shock.

I held my stomach, the impact from her kick knocked the wind out of me as I fell down to the ground. I tried to crawl away but Evie grabbed me by my leg and before I could question it she twisted my ankle to the side causing me to yell out in pain.

Evie flipped me over till she was on top of me, her hand on my throat as he raised a hand ready to strike.

"Evie please, this isn’t...."

A punch to my face silenced me as pain exploded across my face. Evie didn’t stop right there, she grabbed me again by my neck and continued to punch me repeatedly. My head snapped to the side and I tasted metallic blood just as my vision became blurry. Evie didn’t stop, she raised her fist again ready to strike once more and I knew right then that I had to stop her.

"Evie, stop! You are hurting me!" I cried out as I grabbed her wrist. "You are hurting me Evie, please!"

Evie’s eyes flashed with hesitation but she still held that hand raised but the evil in her eyes was gone now and it was almost like she was searching her brain for any recognition of me.

"It’s me Dahlia and you are hurting me, please!" I whispered, "You don’t have to do this!"

Evie cocked her head to the side, "D...Dahlia..."

I almost wept with relief at the way she spoke my name. So soft and so unsure about it all, she seemed so confused so I held her wrist. "Yes Evie, it’s me Dahlia.." I whispered.

"Evie!" My father called, "What are you waiting for?"

Evie stared at my father then turned to stare back at me. "Dahlia?" She called again, her voice firm and as if she was asking for permission.

"Evie?" I called realizing she was starting to release me.

I sat up straight but Evie was still on top of me and I reached up to grab her cheeks but just then the door slammed open and before I knew what was happening. Evie was yanked away from me and slammed to the wall and it wasn’t by Nikolai.

"GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY WIFE!"
