The Hero's Forsaken Princess
Chapter 37: The Beast Tamer

Chapter 37: The Beast Tamer

Dire wolves were larger and more aggressive than regular wolves. These beasts often hunt and fight in packs, using their intelligence to surround and overwhelm their prey.

Aside from being strong, these beasts were extremely agile and fast. That’s why Alaric took a longer time to slash and kill several dire wolves.

Since they were outnumbered, the young general tried his best to kill as many as he could while relying on his knights to protect his wife in the moving carriage.

However, just as the carriage created a large distance from his current spot, he heard a sudden noise. Turning around, he saw the carriage overturn as a large group of dire wolves attacked it simultaneously from one side.

"Damn it!" He cussed under his breath as he tried to chase after the collapsing carriage.

His heart pounded rapidly the moment he saw Eve being thrown out, her body hitting the ground with a loud thud. Alaric started to regret leaving her alone.

With flash steps, he moved as fast as the wind, hoping to save his wife.

"Eve. Please be safe!"

Alaric moved swiftly, rushing to Eve’s spot. His heart sank the moment he saw the large beast running in her direction.

His mind suddenly swirled in darkness. ’Fuck. Am I too late? I can’t reach her in time!’ His once calm expression turned into a panic mode.

"Eve, run!!!" Alaric’s loud scream echoed in the forest.

However, Eve remained motionless in her spot. Alaric spat out a series of curses. In the nick of time, he hurled his sword, aiming to strike the dire wolf attacking Eve. But another dire wolf leaped in front of him, blocking the sword that was meant to hit Eve’s attacker.

"No!!!" For the first time, the feeling of helplessness washed over him.

His heart almost stopped beating when he saw Eve fall on the ground as the dire wolf pounced on her. The fear and horror were evident in his eyes.

The other dire wolves also caught sight of their prey lying on the ground. The group followed their leader, rushing to Eve’s spot.

With murderous intent, Alaric sprinted toward Eve, aiming to tear the flesh of those dire wolves with his bare hands.

Meanwhile, the other knights also noticed that the dire wolves stopped attacking them. Instead, they ran in a certain direction. They were shocked to see their general rushing to the group of dire wolves, gathered around in one spot.

"What is General Stormholt thinking? Is he going to attack those dire wolves alone with his bare hands?" One knight blurted out his remarks.

"Has he gone mad?" His comrades also spoke up.

"Oh no! Look over there!" a third knight pointed toward a familiar figure lying on the ground. "Is that... our princess?" His voice quivered with fear.

The fourth knight turned to the carriage to confirm whether Eve was inside or not. He gasped in horror, his face turning pale when he found an empty carriage. There was no sign of Eve inside.

Everyone was shocked beyond belief as they came to a realization. Their general was charging to the group of dire wolves to rescue their princess.

"We need to stop General Stormholt! I think it’s too late."

"We can’t lose our general as well!" Another knight chimed in, agreeing to his comrade’s words.

The four knights rushed to block Alaric and stop him from getting closer to the pack of dire wolves.

They were about to grab him when Alaric stopped abruptly. The four knights followed his gaze and were stunned by the unexpected scene before them.

Surrounded by the dire wolves, Eve sat up on the ground, blinking in confusion. The ferocious beasts had stopped attacking everyone. They just encircled her as their leader started licking Eve’s face.

’Huh? What’s going on? I thought I was going to be devoured by the beast. Why am I sitting here, unharmed?’ Eve roamed her eyes around. All she could see was furry beasts, watching her like an obedient puppy.

’Oh no. Am I dreaming?’ She glanced down to check her body. Apart from the pain caused by being thrown from the carriage, Eve had no severe wounds. The dire wolf hadn’t bitten her, yet it kept licking her face. She was already soaked by its saliva.

Meanwhile, Alaric didn’t know what he was going to feel right now. A while ago, he wanted to run wild and kill everyone on his way. Surprisingly, there was a shocking turn of events. Eve was safe and unharmed.

’How could this happen? Did she just tame those beasts? Is she a beast tamer?’ Alaric pondered to himself.

Instinctively, his body began to move, tracing his steps towards Eve. However, he stopped on his tracks when the largest dire wolf next to Eve growled at him. The other dire wolves also moved, turning in Alaric’s direction while showing their teeth.

They were preparing to attack Alaric and his knights if they dared to step closer. In their eyes, Alaric and the four knights were prey, while Eve was the queen that they needed to protect.

Sensing the growing tension and the odd behaviors of the wolves, Eve felt the need to intervene.

’Oh no. What should I do? If I don’t make a move, the beast might attack Alaric and his men.’

She glanced at Alaric worriedly. Then she raised her hand, signaling him not to go near them. Alaric frowned, shaking his head. He wanted to take Eve away from those ferocious beasts as soon as possible.

Eve let out a deep sigh before turning to the largest dire wolf. She tried to coax him by gently stroking and petting his head. The dire wolf ceased growling, wagging its tail as it nudged its head against her palm.

Eve smiled faintly. She couldn’t understand why but it seemed that the dire wolves started to like her. Though she didn’t know how she would communicate with them, Eve just followed her instinct.

She rested her forehead on the dire wolf’s head. In her mind, she uttered a few wishes.

’Please don’t attack those men. They are good people. Let us pass this road. Don’t fight each other.’

After speaking in her mind, the largest dire wolf, who appeared to be the leader of the group, suddenly howled, conveying a message to the other wolves.

The largest dire wolf licked Eve once more before turning to leave. The other dire wolves followed their pack leader, running deeper into the woods.

"Eve!" Alaric rushed to her side. Just as he reached her, Eve suddenly collapsed into his arms. She fainted!

The four knights exchanged glances with one another, still couldn’t believe what had just happened.

The knights started whispering to each other.

"Have you seen that?"

"How could she do that?"

"Is Princess Eve a beast tamer?"

"Sigh. I thought I was going to die. Not from the beasts, but at the hands of our general! I failed to protect his wife."

Their conversation was interrupted by Alaric’s commanding voice. "What are you waiting for? Get me a horse, now! I have to bring Eve to the manor as soon as possible. She’s hurt!"
