The Hero's Forsaken Princess -
Chapter 112: An Angel Sent By Heaven
Chapter 112: An Angel Sent By Heaven
With Little Leon’s declaration, the crowd surrounding Eve finally realized her identity. Even though they were living far away from the palace, the adults in the slum knew that Alaric was married to the third princess of Averion.
If the woman standing next to Alaric was indeed his wife, then it only meant that she was Princess Evelina, the third princess of Kingdom Averion.
"I can’t believe this. The princess visited us personally," The Chief mumbled in disbelief.
"Is she not afraid of us?"
"Does she not feel disgusted interacting with us?"
"She really came to meet us. She even helped us. I heard that some of the medicinal herbs that are given to us came from her garden."
"I didn’t expect that a princess would care about us."
"This is the first time a member of the royal family came to visit us and provided us with help."
The people in the slum couldn’t believe that the third princess didn’t mind the foul odor of the slum, the dirty appearance of the people, and the dangerous threat of thieves and robbers.
"Your Highness, what do you want to tell us?" The Chief politely asked her as he bowed his head.
Eve was taken aback for a moment. It seemed that her identity was revealed to everyone. She didn’t have to hide it anymore.
"I am here to personally inspect the slum area because I want to help you and find a solution to your common problem," Eve spoke up in a serious tone.
Alaric and Prince Cassian listened to her silently. They just allowed Eve to take the lead.
Prince Cassian was surprised that Eve and Alaric could easily control this crowd. The unruly people were very obedient to them. They were all eyes and all ears on Eve.
"I want to unite everyone for a common goal. I hope you will cooperate willingly. If you are not interested, you can leave now. Those unwilling to accept change, you don’t have to listen to me."
Eve gave them free will to choose and decide. She waited for a few minutes, observing the crowd as she gave them enough time to decide. Fortunately, no one left.
Eve smiled cheerfully as everyone chose to stay and listen to her.
"First, let me tell you our number one concern. The vulnerable people are getting sick and diseases spread so fast because of our poor hygiene and sanitation."
"We can address this issue by cleaning our surroundings and the drainage system. We also need to teach everyone proper hygiene and handwashing. Without your cooperation, we will not be able to achieve our goal. I want you to be in good health! Your health is our main priority!"
Eve’s words began to sway them. They could feel her sincerity to help them improve their way of living.
"What should we do, Princess? Tell us!" The Chief asked her expectantly.
The crowd looked at her as if they found a new hope in her.
"For the next seven days, we should clean our surroundings. We will collect garbage and dispose of it properly. We will assign a spot where we can dispose of all the trash and garbage. We should observe proper waste management! I will teach you how to do it."
Eve was so determined to address this issue before leaving Kingdom Averion. Alaric mentioned that after one month, they would start their journey to Kingdom Zephyra.
She only had one month to help the people of the slum and change their behaviors for their own sake.
"With that, I want you to know that I won’t go home starting today. I will live here with you to oversee the things we are going to do in this place!"
Everyone was stupefied when they heard that. Even Alaric and Crown Prince Cassian were caught off guard. Eve didn’t discuss this with Alaric at all.
’Has she gone crazy? She will live here? Can she endure it?’ Crown Prince Cassian looked at her in disbelief.
Meanwhile, Alaric had mixed emotions about this. He didn’t want Eve to experience living in the slum area. He thought a princess like her should be staying in a nice manor comfortably. He didn’t want her to experience any hardships and difficulties because she deserved only the best thing in life.
But part of him appreciated Eve for wanting to interact and live with the people in the slum. Her actions only showed how kind and pure-hearted she was. He knew that she had a good motive for doing this.
’Sigh. I promise her that I will support her no matter what. I can’t stop her from doing what she wants. All I need to do is to make sure that she will be safe while staying here.’ Alaric thought to himself.
"Where do you plan to stay here, Princess Eve? Are you certain about this?" Prince Cassian asked her, interrupting her speech. He could no longer stay silent.
"My husband grew up here. He still has a house here. I plan to stay there in his old house," Eve responded excitedly.
Alaric’s heart skipped a beat when he heard that. He didn’t expect that Eve wanted to live in his old house. No wonder she didn’t hesitate to tell everyone she would stay there and oversee the things.
"We will identify the healthy ones– both men and women, who can participate in the clean-up drive starting tomorrow. We will also separate the sick people, both elderly and children, I will check on them and prescribe medicine later," Eve continued, giving them instructions.
"And for the healthy children of five years and above... I will ask them to gather in one place. I have my two attendants here. Claire and Marie will teach them how to read and write! I will also assist them from time to time. But I will focus more on treating and curing the patients’ illnesses and stop the diseases from spreading."
Everyone gasped upon hearing that. They were poor families so they couldn’t afford to send their children to school. The adults here also didn’t get a proper education.
They only relied on their physical strength to earn a living. That’s how pitiful they were. Some of them had no choice but to resort to committing crimes like robbery and stealing.
"The princess is willing to do all of this for us... She is like an angel sent to us by heaven!"
