The Growth of a Titan
Chapter 316- Pitiful Wails

Chapter 316: Chapter 316- Pitiful Wails

Cian looked at Gu-Nam who was wiping his tears and asked.

"The reason why you didn’t want my help, is it because you would be further bullied by your fellow disciples for talking to an outsider?"

Gu-Nam nodded and explained.

"Ever since you guys came the situation in the Academy has become extremely turbulent. If a disciple from Jianghu so much as showed a hint of friendliness toward the people from your Church or the Royal Families, then that person would be under suspicion of colluding with outsiders to eradicate Jianghu."

Cian couldn’t help but release a helpless sigh when he heard that.

Gu-Nam looked up at him with an apologetic expression, but Cian waved his hands.

"I should be the one apologizing since I stepped in to save you when I might have placed a larger target on your back."

Gu-Nam shook his head.

"I’ll find some way around it, don’t worry too much. I-"

Gu-Nam couldn’t finish his sentence as his expression changed to an enraged one.

"Bastard! What are you planning?! Get away from me!"

As Gu-Nam yelled at him like he was his sworn enemy, Cian glanced out of the corner of his eyes to see three disciples of the Alchemy Pavilion trying to take this alleyway as a detour to their destination.

When they saw Cian standing over the injured Gu-Nam, they paused while their expressions changed. But when they heard Gu-Nam’s yells, their faces turned ashen.

"You-Wh-What are you doing to a disciple of our Academy?!’

One of the male disciples shouted while all three of them took a step back.

It was obvious they thought they happened upon an attempted murder and this outsider might kill them to silence them.

Cian saw the look of fear and hatred in these Alchemy Disciples’ eyes, and his heart grew indignant. However, he could only sigh helplessly once more.

Without saying a word, he turned and headed for the other exit of the alleyway.

"Sorry..."

Cian heard Gu-Nam’s apology, but he faintly shook his head to say it was fine.

After Cian left, the three disciples rushed towards Gu-Nam.

When they saw his red robes, they hesitated, but eventually, they chose to help him up.

Perhaps the only thing that could unite the people of Jianghu was the Western Region.

Gu-Nam glanced in the direction Cian had disappeared in while he was carried away with the help of two of the three disciples.

He swore he would repay the kindness Cian showed to him today, but he could only swear in his heart.

As Cian was heading towards his courtyard in the Inner Mountain, his steps were as heavy as a mountain.

Even though he understood why Gu-Nam made his decision, and he didn’t blame him, Cian still felt like he was wronged.

"This is completely unfair; how am I supposed to wash away such deep-seated hatred and convince the people of Jianghu to trust me? *Sniffle*"

Cian was so overwhelmed by emotions that he almost felt like crying. However, he followed his little sister’s instructions and breathed in once before breathing out twice to calm his emotions.

After a few seconds of this, Cian felt the desire to cry fade away and his emotions started to calm down.

On his way to his courtyard, he saw a few girls sprinting around like headless chickens.

"Did you find him?"

"No, he’s too fast, we might never be able to catch him."

"How saddening, I wanted to pet his smooth fur a bit more."

It looked like they were searching for something, but Cian didn’t pay much attention to them.

Soon, Cian saw his courtyard just up ahead. It was a bit out of the way from the other courtyards, with a few trees from the cleared forest on the mountain remaining nearby.

Cian felt his heart calm down even further when he thought about taking a bath and getting some rest.

However, when he was a few meters away from the gate of his courtyard, he seemed to remember something, and his expression twisted into something between bitterness and sadness. It seemed like he was about to burst into tears at any moment.

Just as his expression changed, a green blur appeared out of the forest trees nearby and flew towards his head.

However, Cian seemed to be expecting this and he tilted his head to the side and easily dodged the projectile.

But when the projectile landed on the ground and skid to a stop, it turned out it wasn’t a projectile, but a Spirit Beast with luscious green fur.

This Spirit Beast skated on the ground while using the momentum twisting its body to face Cian.

Its chubby face looked angry as it bared its small teeth towards Cian. It got into a position that said it would attack Cian if he even took a step closer to the courtyard.

Cian looked at this beast and he tried to calm his emotions as he said.

"Even a Spirit Beast in Jianghu doesn’t welcome me. Ho-How am I going to-to..."

Cian’s body trembled and he started to bite his lips. Tears pooled in the corner of his eyes.

"Awoo! Awoo!"

The green-furred Spiritual Beast cutely tried to roar threateningly at Cian, as if he was saying he should scram.

This wasn’t the first time this Spirit Beast was blocking his way to his courtyard.

It has been around four months since Cian entered the Academy at the start of the year, and each time he left his courtyard to visit the Great Clans’ Pavilions, this Spirit Beast would block his path towards his courtyard.

At first, he would try to politely talk to it since he thought it was a pet beast of someone and was just lost. However, as soon as he approached the beast, vines spurted from the ground to attack him.

Of course, Cian wasn’t afraid of these attacks and could easily dodge them, but he didn’t dare to retaliate and potentially harm this beast.

If this beast truly belonged to someone, then he would be doing the opposite of what he set out to do by coming here, and that’s to build a good reputation among the people of Jianghu.

In this situation, he would usually wait until the beast got bored trying to keep him away from the courtyard and leave. That would take a few hours, but if he was lucky, some girls would show up and it would run away in a panic.

However, this time, Cian had gone through too much during the day. The accumulation of all his failed attempts to achieve his goal over these four months came crashing down on his shoulders at this moment.

"WAH!!"

Cian actually dropped to his knees and lifted his head to the sky to release a few pitiful wails.

He had completely broken down.
